THE PLAYERS THE SENIOR FORCE: AN EXPERIENCED GROUP

Returning all five starters and eight letterwinners from a 2009-10 season that recorded the most wins in a season in program history, the 2010-11 campaign features a much experienced roster. Senior captains Liz Repella and Madina Ali will lead a force of five seniors including Korinne Campbell, Vanessa House and Sarah Miles. As far as experience goes, Repella leads the team as she has made 68 career and consecutive starts. She set the school record in 2010 for most games played and most started and had two games with a career-high 44 minutes played last season. Repella has tallied 2,744 minutes in her career, including 1,226 last season, and was responsible for over 20 percent (487 points) of West Virginia’s scoring in 2009-10. A co-captain with Ali last season, Repella served as the team’s scoring leader averaging 13.9 points per game. She also recorded the most field goals made (178), most field goal attempts (455), made the most 3-point shots (70) and attempted the most from beyond the arc (209). Also contributing a majority of the Mountaineers’ points last season, Campbell started 34 games, averaging 10.5 ppg and 7.4 rebounds per game. She was the team’s leader in doubledoubles (6) and rebounds (259), and finished behind Repella with the second-highest scoring average (10.5 ppg), 3-pointers made (44) and offensive rebounds (93). Proving to be an offensive threat with the third-highest scoring average last season (10.1 ppg), Miles also returns as a threat defensively after earning the BIG EAST’s Defensive Player of the Year honors in her first year as a point guard.

Miles led the league in steals and assists as she tallied 95 and 200, respectively, the most steals in program history since 1996. Miles started 34 games and tallied five double-doubles last season. Ali played in all 35 games at forward, earning 34 starts with eight double-digit scoring games. She had the second-highest rebounding average (7.0 rpg), pulling down 246 total boards. House rounds out the senior lineup as she appeared in all 35 games last season with eight doublefigure scoring games. House recorded the third most 3-pointers for the Mountaineers as she was 38-of115 (33.0) from downtown.

LIZ REPELLA

YOUNG, BUT EXPERIENCED

Sophomore Aysa Bussie returns with 35 starts from last season. A unanimous selection to the all-BIG EAST freshman team, Bussie returns for the 2010-11 season after setting the freshman record for single-season blocks (72). Bussie’s blocks last season went down in WVU record books as the fourth-most in a single season and the most of any Mountaineer in a season since 1972. The young center also poses an offensive threat as she held the third-highest scoring average (10.1) with Miles and the second highest field-goal percentage (47.2), as she went 116-for-246 last season.

LAST SEASON’S LONE SOPHOMORE

Last season, Natalie Burton was the lone sophomore, but is joined by junior-transfer Bianca Jarrett this season. Burton appeared in all 35

MADINA ALI games last season, tallying at least 10 minutes in 19 games. The Perth, Australia, native has played in 68 games as a Mountaineer with 31 career starts. At center, Burton held the highest field-goal percentage of 53.3 (40-of-75) in the 2009-10 season.

FAMILIAR FACES

Fans may notice a pair of familiar faces, but cannot recall either player ever stepping foot on the court. Redshirt-sophomores Ayana Dunning and Tonia Williams were a part of the team last season, but were unable to participate due to NCAA transfer rules. Dunning, a 6-foot-3 center, transferred from LSU where she played in 23 games with nine starts in the 2008-09 season. Dunning averaged 5.1 ppg, 4.2 rpg and 13.7 minutes for the Tigers. Williams, a 6-foot-1 guard, transferred from South Carolina where she played in 11 games during the 2008-09 season.

NEWCOMERS

The Mountaineers welcome four others to the 2010-11 roster as Jarrett transferred from Chipola College and true freshmen Brooke Hampton, Jessica Harlee and Taylor Palmer join the team. At guard, Hampton comes from Colts Neck, N.J., where she held the Colts Neck single-game records for points (37), assists (13), field goals made (14) and free throws made (15), in addition to the single-season record for assists (171). Jarrett and Palmer also will compete for time at guard as Jarrett led the NJCAA Region 8 in scoring, averaging 21.4 ppg in 24 contests played, and Palmer averaged 15.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg and 3.0 apg as a senior at Mt. Vernon High in New York. Harlee joins the Mountaineers as a forward out of Fallston High in Maryland. The 6-foot-0 true freshman was a part of the 2009 and 2010 AAA Maryland State championship teams and tallied over 1,000 points (1,086) and 816 rebounds in her three-year high school career.
