In our unwavering commitment to safety, Bellows is proud of our many innovations in safety practices including being the first general contractor in the Houston area to have a full-time safety director and the first to partner with the federal OSHA agency. We continue to incorporate unprecedented ideas into our award-winning safety program which goes above and beyond OSHA standards. Bellows is distinctive in other ways. We are one of the oldest general contractors based in Houston, with the fourth generation of the Bellows family now working for the company. In January 2009, we opened a satellite office in the Texas Medical Center run by our experienced Medical Center Renovation Team which specializes in performing renovation and addition work with foresight, innovation and professionalism. Bellows is also the largest general contractor in Houston that is majority-owned by a woman. As Bellows embraces the future while honoring the past, our reputation for integrity and excellence remains the same. W. S. Bellows Medical Center Renovation Team (MCRT) is a highly specialized and experienced team that executes complex renovation projects within occupied hospitals, research facilities and institutions of higher learning.
Since 1985 Bellows has been working on-site in the Texas Medical Center and has successfully completed over 270 projects including laboratories, vivariums, MRIs, operating rooms and flood mitigation. Tony Mansoorian, Director of Operations for Bellows MCRT, has been working in the Texas Medical Center for nine years. Tony commented, “What makes us different? Founded by Warren Sylvanus Bellows in 1914 and still family-owned, W. S. Bellows Construction Corporation began in Canada, relocated to Kansas City, Kansas, and from there moved to Oklahoma City in 1920. Bellows won contracts throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee. In 1936, Bellows moved its headquarters to Houston after being awarded the contract to build the landmark San Jacinto Monument. Other historic projects include the University of Texas Tower in Austin, which Bellows built in 1935. The company also made history in Houston in 1963 by building the Humble (now Exxon) Building, then the tallest building west of the Mississippi. In 1970 in Houston, Bellows constructed One Shell Plaza, then the tallest concrete building in the world. With its sterling reputation and almost a century of experience, Bellows has become a landmark itself in the
construction industry. Over the past 95 years, Bellows has built buildings in many market sectors comprising performing arts theaters, museums, office buildings, retail buildings, industrial facilities, hospitals, hotels, churches, wastewater treatment plants, tenant buildouts and complete building renovations. W. S. Bellows Construction helped shape much of Houston’s downtown skyline in the 1950s through the 1980s. Undertakings in downtown Houston included 10 high-rise office towers, two luxury hotels (Four Seasons and Hyatt Regency), the Alley Theatre and the Wortham Theater Center. Nearby on Allen Parkway, Bellows built four office towers and four parking garages for American General (now AIG) between 1964 and 1984. Bellows has built numerous office buildings and hotels in many other major Texas cities as well as in New Orleans, Los Angeles, Little Rock and Biloxi. Bellows has constructed office campuses elsewhere in Houston for Shell Oil Company, Schlumberger and BMC Software, among other businesses. In 2008, Bellows completed a large expansion project for ConocoPhillips at its Woodcreek campus which includes a new parking garage, a state-of-the-art fitness center and extensive exterior

site work. Bellows also built campuses in San Antonio for The Capital Group and in New Orleans for Prudential. Bellows performed the original tenant buildout in all of the buildings that the company has constructed. Major tenant renovations were performed for Vinson and Elkins, Baker Botts, EOG Resources, Hess, Chevron, Dynegy, Continental Airlines and other businesses. Since 1985 in the Texas Medical Center, Bellows has completed over 270 renovation and building projects including work for Baylor College of Medicine, St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital. Bellows has had a continuing presence at Texas Children’s Hospital since 1989 when the company began building the Feigin Center and the West Tower. Since then, Bellows has completed vertical additions to both of those buildings and also built the Clinical Care Center and the offsite Meyer Building and Garage in addition to bridges, tunnels

Throughout its history, Bellows has performed renovation/addition work for many schools and religious institutions. Bellows built several buildings at the University of Texas, the E. Cullen Building (1950) and the Burdette Keeland Design Exploration Center (2007) at the University of Houston, multiple dormitories and other buildings at Texas A&M University, the Joella and Stewart Morris Cultural Arts Center (2008) at Houston Baptist University and the Fondren Library (1946) at Rice University as well as renovating the historic Wiess House (2003) to serve as the home for Rice’s president. School projects in Houston include three buildings for The Kinkaid School and additions and renovations to the River Oaks
Baptist School and St. John’s School. Among the religious facilities that Bellows has built in Houston are First Presbyterian Church, Live Oak Friends Meeting House, First Methodist West Houston Campus and the Congregation Beth Israel Memorial Gardens. The company has also completed additions and renovations for numerous other religious institutions. In the last 20 years, Bellows completed significant additions and renovations to major museums in Houston. For the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Bellows built the Audrey Jones Beck Building, renovated Bayou Bend and Rienzi, and recently started construction of a visitors’ center for Bayou Bend. Bellows also built the unique Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum for the Menil Collection in 1996. In 2009, Bellows completed an addition to the Children’s Museum of Houston, part of an expansion which included a parking garage and a new administration building. Warren S. San Jacinto Monument
Dedicated to those who fought for Texas’ Independence, the San Jacinto Monument stands 15 feet taller than the Washington Monument. It is the world’s tallest war memorial and has been recognized as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers. W. S. Bellows Construction Corporation completed the monument in 1939 and innovations included the first continuous mat foundation pour, lasting 57 hours, and the implementation of a scaffold suspended from a central structural steel tower which was raised as construction progressed. Throughout this tremendous undertaking for the time, Bellows maintained an impeccable safety standard.
