Welcome Dear colleagues Welcome to the WorldDAB General Assembly and Summit 2023. I’m delighted that, for the first time in five years, we are back in Germany, the largest DAB+ market in the world. As many of you will know, after ten years in the role, I am stepping down as President of WorldDAB. In that period, DAB+ radio has made significant progress – and is now firmly established as the core future platform for radio in Europe. That said, there is still much to be achieved – but the prospects are extremely promising. Within Europe, in addition to our established DAB markets, we are seeing important developments in multiple markets including France, Sweden, and Czechia. Of equal significance, particularly for the longer term, we are seeing growing interest in DAB+ across the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific region: • • •

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have joined Qatar in offering regular services. Ghana and Uganda have recently launched trials, following the footsteps of South Africa, Tunisia, and Algeria. In Asia Pacific, Thailand and Indonesia have both confirmed their commitment to DAB+.

WorldDAB, through the Project Office and its members, is actively supporting these developments and is keen to support any other markets considering their first steps into the world of DAB radio. Talking of the Project Office, we are extremely fortunate to have such an experienced and expert team organising our General Assembly and Summit, along with so many other events through the year. As ever, my thanks go to Bernie and the team for all their hard work in organising this year’s event. I look forward to seeing you all in Munich. Best wishes

Patrick Hannon President, WorldDAB –3–
