Genuine & Goodhearted JAMES M. SAMA He is a writer behind the New Chivalry Movement- a set of ideas that prompts the development of self-worth in people of all ages. James, how long have you been doing your Chivalry Movement? Why did you decide to start the movement? I started my website a year and a half ago. I grew up in an old-fashioned family. My dad is very romantic and chivalrous with my mom after 35 years of marriage. As I got older, I realized that was rare.

What are your suggestions for guys to be more romantic on Valentine’s Day? I just wrote an article on CNBC on Valentine’s Day. It’s about how people think spending money is the most important thing but really, spen ding time is more important. Guys think they can just buy women something they saw in a commercial. It’s all well and good but it doesn’t have any

Guys think that being nice and romantic means being weak. How can they be masculine and still be romantic?

Guys make the mistake of thinking they have to cater to all her needs to keep her attention, but in reality, it’s him being himself and chasing after his own goals and dreams that’s going to keep her with him.

Do you think that guys should pay on the first date? After a few dates a woman can pay. It’s a good way of showing she’s willing to contribute and be a part

Dr. Pat Allen, a relationship expert, has a philosophy that you can’t have two equal partners in a relationship. Someone, preferably the man, has to be the driver and someone has to be the passenger. What do you think? I agree with driver/passenger roles but it differs with certain areas of life.

When making that decision, what traits are guys looking for in a woman? A man wants a woman who challenges him on an intellectual level. He wants a woman who is ambitious and has her own life. If he’s thinking long term, he’s picturing her raising his children. There are a lot of answers to this question but I think it comes down to kindness and being genuine. Can

Where do we meet guys like you who are masculine but romantic and kind and loving? Not in clubs. There are some good people in clubs but guys in clubs typically aren’t looking to settle down. Charity events and fundraisers are more mature and formal. The people who are there want to help others and make a difference. But really, guys are everywhere; women just need to be assertive. It’s as simple as saying hi to somebody in line at Starbucks or smiling at some guy at the bookstore. To a lot of guys that’s enough of a trigger to get him to come over.

Is it okay for her to bring up exchanging numbers? What about the guys that are too intimidated by good-looking, powerful women to approach them? How does a woman let a man know she’s interested without chasing him? A smile or friendly expression can break down the wall of intimidation. Then it’s up to him. Give him the opportunity to come up to you. Let him know it’s welcome. A smart guy will take that hint.

Some guys are too scared of rejection to ask for a woman’s phone number.

If he doesn’t ask then I think it would be okay. It’s nothing to be too hesitant about.

Do you have any secrets to make a guy want to commit? I think that feeling appreciated and valued is a big part of it. In my experience, most guys want to be a provider and want to make someone happy. Secondly, when you’re with someone and you’re comfortable, you enjoy your time together, you know that this is the person that you want to at least give it a shot with. It’s more emotional than logical.

2 0 1 5 M A R C H | W O R L D C L A S S M AG A Z I N E S . C O M 9

Guys are everywhere, Women just need to be assertive. How early in the relationship do guys know she is The One? In the first maybe 2 or 3 dates I may not know she’s The One, but I know that this is somebody I want to continue this with. It happens really quickly for guys, especially ones who’ve been in negative relationships. When they do have this positive experience they hold onto it. That happens really quickly.

When do guys feel they’ve fallen in love? Usually girls fall in love faster because they’re more emotional. I don’t know how long it would take. A couple of months may be when he’d be comfortable saying it to her, although he might know it before. Guys do hide their feelings but they still feel these things. In one of your articles you say that if women raised their standards, guys would have to step up. We let them take no action but still get whatever they want. Yes, that’s why guys don’t see the point of putting in extra effort. Women need to raise their standards and only accept kindness. 1 0 W O R L D C L A S S M AG A Z I N E S . C O M | M A R C H 2 0 1 5

It’s as simple as saying hi to somebody in line at Starbucks or smiling at some guy at the bookstore. Do you have any last words of wisdom? For guys, being kind and being romantic and genuine won’t get you all the girls. But if you stay true who you are, it’ll eventually get you the right woman who feels the same way about you and will make you happy. Being genuine and goodhearted in the long run always wins. Women need to be open to a guy actually being kind and genuine. Most women think it’s just an act to get you in bed, and sometimes that’s true. Dating is a lot like playing the lottery. You have to lose a lot of times before you win, but if you never play you’ll definitely never win. You’ll never find the right guy if you don’t put yourself out there. 2 0 1 5 M A R C H | W O R L D C L A S S M AG A Z I N E S . C O M 1 1

he lives of women are fraught with challenges. That is a story that is universal throughout the world, but the life-story of women as individuals will

always be unique and poignant. Alina Reyzelman brings us the story of the struggles of three such women in Moscow, Russia, in her new documentary, “A Girl & The City.” Although the women in the film are from diverse social and economic backgrounds, their stories bring to light many core issues that are a matter of course for women generally, such as: discrimination, financial disparity, neglect, under-employment and child-care, particularly for working and single mothers. As an important complement to that, female entrepreneurs and business women were also invited to participate and discuss these problems, to bring forward their opinions and experiences.

On the Edge of Everything STEPHEN LESAVICH What was your first focus? I was very interested in technology, so I pursued computer science in school. After graduating from college, I worked as a software engineer. Eventually, I obtained my Master’s and Ph.D. in computer science. My path included working at AT&T Bell Laboratories, which at the time was a premier research facility that helped develop the backbone of the Internet. Later, I spent time at US Robotics, which produced the first commercial modems during the age of dial-up access. These were exciting times for me. Not long after, I decided to attend law school.

A lot of kids start their own businesses and are successful, but you still need some background and experience in business, taking classes, or other ways of looking at the world that will make you more effective in your own company.

What top three books that inspired or influenced you would you recommend to anybody? My first choice is any one of the biographies on Steve Jobs. He is one of the people who was very creative and did his own thing, overcoming adversity in his own company. The second book is Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell. I recommend this book especially to entrepreneurs or those who want to look outside the box or manifest creativity. The third book on this list is actually the first book my company published: Seven Letters That Saved My Life, by Dottie Lessard. She has Cystic Fibrosis and wanted to become a runner. During this journey, she underwent a double lung transplant and “died” on the operating table. Eventually, she also required a kidney transplant

He spent one of the two months in a medically induced coma. Doctors said only a miracle would restore his fortunes. A miracle happened and he has lived to tell the story. However, Dean was left with chronic medical conditions, one being peripheral neuropathy.

Over the years, Dean has been told over and over again he should share the story of his survival and overcoming peripheral neuropathy. He also used to attend neuropathy support groups and he would listen to people’s frustrations and see their pain. He loved speaking in these gatherings and would inspire those suffering to hope for a life beyond the frustrations of neuropathy. All these happenings pushed him to write the book “Peripheral

Once you know the condition you are suffering from, Dean says you can start to understand how you can overcome it. According to Dean, it is also okay to ask for help. “Don’t be afraid to speak to a friend… Don’t feel that there’s something wrong with you. Listen: everyone has something to deal with,” Dean says. Dean’s mindset was a big contributor to getting his life back on track after the neuropathy experience. For forty-three years, Dr. Steven Jonas was a professor at Stony Brook University teaching and doing research in public health and preventive medicine. He retired at the end of 2013. During that time, Dr. Jonas has authored/co-authored, edited/co-edited 35 books. But surprisingly, one of his most intriguing stories has little to do with his career as a professor. At the age of 43, Dr. Jonas decided to start running. This was after a few years of thinking about it and reading quite extensively on athletics. He felt being in preventive medicine, he should do something to promote his own health.

JARET GROSSMAN

“

Fulfillment needs to be the main focus of our lives, according to Jaret Grossman, owner of the company Muscle Prodigy: muscleprodigy.com. We spend our lives wanting it, but he says that, unfortunately, most people do that by more or less just, "waiting to stumble upon it," because we don't really know what we should be looking for. This causes us to feel an inevitable void, even if we have success in terms of our career or material things.

IT IS A HUNGER AND A DRIVE TO KEEP GOING, BECAUSE EVERYONE IS GOING TO FAIL. IT'S ABOUT EMOTIONAL TOUGHNESS TO KEEP GOING WHEN YOU FAIL. IT'S A MATTER OF TAPPING INTO A DEEP ENOUGH WHY, IF YOU WILL, THAT YOU ARE BETTER THAN THE MOMENT OR THE CIRCUMSTANCES," JARET GROSSMAN. Grossman explains that every morning he moves himself into a peak mental state, activating his central nervous system, by jumping on his heels. He then focuses on all the things that he has to be grateful for. Movement is a crucial part of this process, to move beyond affirmations, and get the body actively involved in changing the mind. His next step is to learn through reading and then apply all of that to his flexible short-term planning for the day. In Grossman's opinion, planning needs to remain a dynamic process, because sticking too strongly to things like five-year business plans can create a type of tunnel vision, that can mean missed opportunities down the road. "YOU MUST ELEVATE THE GAME FOR YOURSELF. YOU MUST RAISE YOUR EXPECTATIONS AND STANDARDS, BECAUSE WHAT YOU DID LAST YEAR, YOU COULD HAVE HAD THE BEST YEAR EVER, BUT IF YOU ARE NOT PROGRESSING THIS YEAR, YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL DEPRESSED. IT'S A CLOSING OF THE MIND,"JARET GROSSMAN. Grossman emphasizes that financial freedom and success are mainly a matter of the right mindset and the resolving of inner conflicts. Progress is said to be the key, both on an individual and a societal level. When we focus on progress as our reason for being, negative emotions like depression, stress, and anxiety, no longer become a distraction. They lose their power to tear us away from our purpose. Once we really understand what fulfillment is, we can begin analyzing all the different sections of our lives to build up areas where we are at our weakest. Grossman warns that this is where many people make a mistake, because it is more common to focus on our strengths, which only further increases our imbalance over time. When it comes to his own progress, Grossman feels that he has hardly scratched the surface. He has a constant hunger for more and wants to spread that to others, as well, because he has come to realize that many people need just that.

Today, she is an authority in the business of buying, fixing and selling businesses. Now she has over 15 years experience buying and selling businesses. Some people contact her to help them sell their business but her evaluation of the prevailing circumstances may lead her to make a different recommendation. Recently, she partnered with a business owner who had called her with an intention to sell his business. She felt selling the $400,000 worth business would work against the business owner and he would not get enough money for his family after paying his taxes and the business brokers. Michelle brought in the resources the business needed to transition to its next phase. She projects the business will be worth $5 million by end of 2015. Within five years, she believes it will be worth anything between $15 million and $20 million. Most people looking to buy a business buy businesses directly from the business owners. Michelle says this is a huge mistake. This is because typically, most business owners will be trying to sell their business because it is not doing well, or the financials are not going to substantiate the price they want, or they can’t prove their income, or something else is wrong with their business. Using a business broker ensures confidentiality. The business owner would be concerned about their employees, customers, vendors and competitors. They should hire a business broker to ensure confidentiality during the buying process. Michelle also says most buyers don’t know what they’re doing. They will hire a business broker who does not know what they are supposed to do. She advises people to interview business brokers before hiring them. She also advises them to change their approach while looking to buy a business. “Don’t be industry specific; be cash flow specific. Know the cash flow that you want to generate and buy the cash; don’t buy the industry,” she says. Michelle’s book “Sell Your Business for More Than It’s Worth” has been a huge success. Truth be told, it’s difficult to describe exactly who Steve Olsher is. His story is far from normal (something he prides himself on) and nearly everything about him diverges from the status quo.

WHAT? For starters, while most entrepreneurs jump out of bed with a fire in their soul, Steve would gladly sleep until noon if he had his druthers. As the father of four (two little men and two little dogs) and the husband of a licensed funeral director, when the crack of dawn arrives and the darkness disappears, so does his ability to maintain REM status. Over the years, there are few endeavors that Steve hasn’t taken on. A natural-born entrepreneur, he readily admits that embodying N.W.A.’s lyrics of “trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents” is his driving modus operandi.

STEVE OLSHER

From the pre-pubescent years of shoveling snow and raking leaves to the early career experiments of selling speakers out of the back of a van (yep – he was that guy, “hey buddy, we’ve got an extra pair of speakers that didn’t make it onto our invoice and we need to sell ‘em before we get back to the warehouse… you interested?”) and being a Chicago House DJ, nightclub owner (The Funky Pickle! – don’t ask…), real estate developer and dot-com pioneer, there’s little wonder as to how he earned the moniker ‘America’s Reinvention Expert.’ Since 2009, Olsher has been a full-time writer, keynote speaker, mentor and Internet marketer. He is the New York Times Best Selling author of What Is Your WHAT? Discover The ONE Amazing Thing You Were Born To Do, the 2013 Business Technology Book of the Year, Internet Prophets: The World’s Leading Experts Reveal How To Profit Online, the creator of Internet Prophets LIVE! and founder of The Reinvention Workshop. (He’s also Chairman and Founder of Liquor.com, a domain he’s owned since 1998.) His focus on helping people discover, share and monetize their WHAT — the ONE thing they were born to do — has led him to work with tens of thousands across the globe. Steve readily admits that, prior to focusing on how he could be of service to others, his work was less than fulfilling. “If I’m being perfectly honest, my work was of benefit to me, and those closest to me, but really no one else. Let’s face it; if I were to die tomorrow, my tenants wouldn’t be lining up to pay their final respects. They’d simply want to know where to send next month’s rent. And, while Liquor.com is an awesome site that focuses on mixology and cocktail culture, I don’t think Mother Teresa or Gandhi would be moved by my efforts.” Although he has realized what others might define as entrepreneurial success (albeit with significant highs and significant lows), Steve has had his fair share of failures. “Failure is a part of life, both in one’s personal world and in business. I choose to view failure as ‘success with an unintended ending.’ Reality dictates that, if you’re not living in a cave and are actually interacting with other human beings, you’ll inevitably experience hundreds of

But as long as my kids still hug me when I get home and my wife still wants me, life is good.” So, how does Steve define success? As you might imagine… in an interesting way. “Success to me is not dying at night and waking up each morning. If this happens, then I’ve done pretty well. Each day provides an opportunity to be judgmental about something new.

They simply shift from the sheltered environment of getting the bottle from their momma to the sheltered environment of getting the bottle from the bartender. There’s little doubt that we can end this social experiment and stop perpetuating the societal myth that you need that piece of paper to succeed.” Steve credits his grandfather (who was the founder of Foremost Liquor Stores) with helping him to understand how to build businesses and manage people. “I had an opportunity to work with him for almost four years and being under his tutelage

Destiny. This is the word that sums up Elisabetta Faenza’s life. From childhood, she was diagnosed with a genetic disorder that threatened to take her out before she even got a chance to live. Constantly, doctors told her parents they would lose their daughter at a very early age. First, doctors said she would not make it to her third birthday. She did. The doctors then said she would not make it to five, then seven, twelve‌ She kept outliving their projections, or as she puts it, she found a way to change the genetic death sentence into a life sentence. 2 0 1 5 M A R C H | W O R L D C L A S S M AG A Z I N E S . Elisabetta Faenza now empowers people to tak e charge of their lives as she has. She is a life coach, a clinical hypnotherapist and an accomplished author. She helps people deal with crises and habits to develop themselves as grounded, well-balanced people who are able to achieve the goals they set. Elisabetta also helps organizations during mergers and takeovers. When a business changes ownership and seeks to introduce a change of culture, she is usually called in to help with the transition. Often, Elisabetta has been described as a coach for human potential. She has developed a series of models that help her diagnose a person’s great strengths and attitudes and establish how they can be used to achieve their highest possible value. She also helps people understand what they should be doing in the future. She does succession coaching where business leaders can pass on their leadership to other people and move on to their next calling. In helping people find their purpose, Elisabetta Faenza uses a timeline process. She gets them to divide their lives into decades, from birth to

Elisabetta says people can have the same experiences but draw completely different meaning. She explains this using her life experience. Her terrible illness made her develop a good pain threshold. The death sentence she kept outliving helped her learn to project herself into the future and see what her life could become. She now does not look back at that time in her life as a bad time because she says it became the foundation of her character. Someone else may have gone through the same experience and may look back at that time with horror and fear. These past experiences affect a person’s present mindset. Looking at your life objectively is a core part of the process of deriving your potential. Elisabetta requires people to come up with the concept, as well as the tagline of their lives. “If you were to write the story of your life, what would your tagline be?” she asks.

been transformed through the application of these principles. In the book, she shares seven keys that help you focus your energy on the things you want and switch off the things you don’t. The seven keys include mindset and productivity mode. A mindset is a set of mind maps of everything you do. Mind maps help change people’s behaviors and ultimately their mindsets. “If the results you’re getting in your life right now are not making you happy, then there’s gonna be something in your mindset that needs to shift.” Elisabetta says it is very important to understand the kind of productivity mode you are in. Seek to answer some of these questions: Am I optimistic and positive in my attitude right now? Do I feel energized and capable for the task in front of me? Am I prepared and excited about what I’m about to do? Elisabetta quotes a number of studies that have found that the electromagnetic fields emanated by a human being’s DNA communicate with the environment for a distance of at least ten meters around them. The electro-magnetic fields broadcast information that other people, animals, and things pick up. How that person is feeling radiates and is broadcasted out. This explains how a constructive, energized and passionate attitude can be infectious in an organization. People can change their emotional state by treating themselves as elite athletes. Consider the things you are doing and whether they are helping you perform at your best or making you sluggish. One of the biggest problems in organizations is people showing up at work but staying mentally absent. An organization should create an environment where people can decide where their best level of productivity will be. Elisabetta has begun a new program called Activate DNA. It takes people through a 12-month program of developing themselves and achieving a high productive value end. Those who register for this program will receive a series of documents, audios, and videos. They can also send their questions to her via email. She also will be organizing small group conferences and demonstrate some tools to participants. Because of her condition, Elisabetta Faenza has to have a good diet. She also has to keep her protein levels low. She says she mainly eats fresh fruits, but she is not a vegetarian: once in a while, she eats fish, chicken or red meat. Elisabetta says she helps people look at how they participate in the activities they do not like. She listens to them and then asks them questions that help them look at their circumstances from a different perspective. This way, they are able to update their programming into something 6 8 W O R L D C L A S S M AG A Z I N E S . C O M | M A R C H 2 0 1 5

more productive. She advises people seeking to expand their vision to find a mentor. “It’s important to choose someone who is achieving the things that you’d like to achieve or has the outlook that you’d like to have and ask them if you can hang out with them,” she says. She also advises them to change their environment and stop checking in with people who made them the way they were. “Seek out environments that are filled with the people that model the behavior that you want to adopt.” Later this year, Elisabetta hopes to release a new book, ‘Unlocking the DNA on Leadership’. She is looking at the role of psychopaths in the workplace and how they shape organizations. “Because they (psychopaths) often rise to the top in organizations, they dictate the whole culture of those organizations turning them into psychopathic organizations: which don’t care about your family life; which don’t care about your health; which just care about extracting as much out of you as possible before they discard you.” Elisabetta Faenza has worked with organizations from around the world. Some organizations prefer consultation through Google Hangouts, others like using Skype. Any individual or organization seeking her consulting services can contact her through her website, elisabettalfaenza.com. She is also on Twitter (@lisfaenza) and Facebook. 2 0 1 5 M A R C H | W O R L D C L A S S M AG A Z I N E S . C O M 6 9

Veronica Grey is passionate. Every cause she advances excites her. The conviction in her eyes and voice makes you realize this is what she lives for. She is an author, an environmentalist, a film producer and the most televised lifestyle surfer. She has authored the book “Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise: The 5 Most Important Wellness Secrets of All Time”. The book was co-authored by professional surfer John John Florence. It has gone ahead to become an international best-seller on Amazon.com. It is a five dollar download. One of Veronica Grey’s inventions is a shark repellent outfit for surfers and swimmers. The repellent outfit is designed with dark and white stripes. This is because black and white stripes are known to repel sharks. When a shark sees a creature with dark and white stripes, it stays away from it for two reasons. First, it may think the creature is a banded sea snake which attacks and kills sharks and second, a shark’s vision of black and white stripes creates a depth perception. Black and white stripes appear like small little things to the shark, and generally, little things do not interest sharks. The journey to this invention is just as interesting as the inventor itself. Veronica Grey has always feared sharks. In her own admission, she has traveled many countries of the world but has consistently turned down every opportunity to visit Australia. She says she is afraid of the sharks in the Australian

Grey’s obsession with sharks also led her to do a project she calls “Worst Shark Attack Ever”. This is a free documentary to sensitize people on the ongoing shark-killing spree. “One hundred million sharks are being killed every year just for their shark fins. That boils down to 190 sharks a minute or three sharks every second,” Grey says. The problem with this is if this killing spree continues, sharks will go extinct in the next 10 years. “Sharks are the apex predators. They are like the vacuum cleaner of the ocean. If there are no more sharks, all the small fish – their populations will grow because there are no sharks to eat them. If there’s plenty more small fish, they will end up eating the coral reef …which means they will kill the coral reef,” Grey explains. Coral reefs play an important role in the ecosystem. They are like the lungs of the ocean. When sunlight hits the ocean, the coral reef absorbs it and turns it into food for the ocean. If the coral reef dies, it will act like a mirror reflecting sunlight off the ocean causing a greenhouse effect. Grey says this greenhouse effect will be worse for this planet than anything we have ever seen and humans will not survive it. To prevent this, Grey says people have to stop buying anything from the ocean. “We can all vote with our pocketbook. If we all stop buying anything that’s from the ocean …there won’t be (anymore) ‘ocean-raping’ cause there (will be) no 7 2 W O R L D C L A S S M AG A Z I N E S . C O M | M A R C H 2 0 1 5

For Wellness

REED DAVIS D.R.E.S.S. is Reed Davis' five step behavior program to bring increased wellness to every cell in the body, simultaneously. The five letters in the acronym signify: diet, rest, exercise, stress reduction and supplements, spelling out a system for fighting against, what Davis terms "Metabolic Chaos," to find the underlying reasons for disease and imbalances, so that they can be, what Davis calls, "coached down," while proper digestion, immune system health, detoxification, proper hormone proportions, and healthy lifestyle choices are, proportionally "coached up."

"I NOW CALL IT VITAL RESERVE, SO IN YOU AND IN ME, IN EVERY CELL, IN EVERY ORGAN, IN EVERY TISSUE, THERE IS A METABOLIC RESERVE, A STRATEGIC RESERVE, A VITAL RESERVE. NOW, WHEN YOU CAN FIND OUT WHERE THAT HAS BROKEN DOWN, YOU CAN COACH IT UP AND SO, THAT IS HOW WE LEAD PEOPLE TO HEALTH," REED DAVIS. Davis has now spent some fifteen years running the lab work of sick people, including saliva, urine, stool and blood tests, to refine and systematize his unique objective approach. While having the utmost respect for their profession, he emphasized that he is not a doctor, so he cannot treat or diagnose disease, but prefers instead to focus his clients on a path that will encourage the body to heal itself. Test results and intake history are combined to individually customize the D.R.E.S.S. program for each client. One of the key elements is often a focus on stress reduction, which can range from toxic people in a clients life, to food sensitivities or toxic chemicals, such as pesticides and herbicides. Davis cautioned that our world is now so inundated with information, transformation is the only path to lasting change. His tailored behavior program typically takes from 90 to 180 days. "SO, IN YOUR BODY, WHEN WE ARE SUBJECTED TO THE ENVIRONMENT, ALL THE STUFF THAT'S IN OUR FOOD, AND THE MENTAL/EMOTIONAL STRESSORS, PLUS, ALL THE PHYSICAL STRESS OF HAVING BAD POSTURE, WEAKNESS, CAR ACCIDENTS, SPORTS INJURIES, ALL THESE THINGS ADD UP, AND THEY TAKE A TOLL ON YOUR BODY.
