All these countries are members of IBRD and IDA. As for the other institutions, n Afghanistan and Pakistan are included in IFC’s Middle East and North Africa region. n Bhutan is not a member of MIGA. n Bhutan, India, and the Maldives are not members of ICSID.
The World Bank in South Asia South Asia has experienced a long period of robust economic growth, averaging 6 percent a year over the past 20 years. This strong growth has translated into declining poverty and impressive improvements in human development. Yet poverty remains rampant in many areas, and South Asia has the world’s largest concentration of poor people—more than 1 billion people living on less than $2 a day. Box 3.8 presents key regional facts.
