Graduate output in agriculture fell significantly from a high of 173 in 2005 to 62 in 2007. As enrollments have been falling, the output is not expected to increase much in this important field. Applied science and nursing are showing an upward trend, which is good because of the need for such graduates in Malawi. Although graduate output in engineering is increasing, the total output and the rate of increase have remained small over the period. ICT is currently offered in MZUNI and Shareworld, yet Shareworld has not graduated any students. As a result, the output is still very small and it decreased in 2007. As can be expected from enrollments, there are few graduates are the postgraduate level. The total cumulative output for the postgraduates from 2000–2008 was 332 compared to the cumulative total of 9,968 at the undergraduate level. The breakdown was:

The cumulative Masters output for the six year period is only 321 graduates. As noted in figure 7.13, the output has fluctuated over the years for both genders. The fields with the highest output include:
