Study Method This study was based mainly on the results of two large-scale primary surveys, one on rural households and the other on rural growth centers and microenterprises defined in the Bangladesh context as large marketplaces. Because of their importance, these surveys, along with background information, are described in greater detail in this chapter.5 Furthermore, selected information from the surveys was reanalyzed to address the welfare and growth effects of modern energy use.
