Glass, Casting, Metals Refining the Craft: Special Topics

Experienced Beginner, Intermediate, Adults Instructor: Kathryn Lagassey This special “Second Saturday” series will focus on one technique for each workshop. Take one class, or sign up for the entire series! (Meets in W-7, 711) Fall Quarter (1 day workshop) Session A: Sat Oct 12 (6pm-8pm) *Hollow Beads. Session B: Sat Nov 9 (6pm-8pm) *Heart Shaped Beads. Session C: Sat Dec 14 (6pm-8pm) *Recycled Glass.

Winter Quarter (1 day workshop) Session A: Sat Jan 11 (6pm-8pm) *Flat Lapped Beads (bring a bead for lapping). Session B: Sat Feb 8 (6pm-8pm) *Surface Cold Work Techniques. Session C: Sat March 8 (6pm-8pm) *Intro to Soft Glass Sculpture.

Kiln Casting

Beginners, Young Adult, Adult Instructor: Robert Kincheloe Create 3-dimensional objects in glass throughout this workshop. Discover various approaches to mold making and how they relate to kiln-casting with glass. Includes clay form casting, lost wax casting, rubber molds, pour molds, hand-built molds, glass volume measuring, kiln setup, kiln firing schedules and cleanup, and basic cold working processes. (Meets in W-7, 711) Fall Quarter (8 weeks) Mon Sept 16 (6:30pm-9pm) *No class Oct 14, Nov 11. Winter Quarter (8 weeks) Mon Jan 6 (6:30pm-9pm) *No class Jan 20, Feb 17. Flame Worked Ornaments

All levels; Young Adult, Adult Instructor: Kathryn Lagassey Get ready for the holidays! In this one day workshop, learn to make classic ornaments like icicles, tear drops and other solid ornament designs. Learn “off-mandrel” skills with borosilicate glass. (Meets in W-7, 711) Fall Quarter (1 day workshop) Session A: Sat Nov 16 (10am-5pm) Session B: Sat Dec 7 (10am-5pm) Tuition: $105 (M) $115 (N/M) (Materials fee of $20, payable at first class.)

All glass students should wear natural fiber clothing, long pants and closed-toed shoes. Students are encouraged to bring their own safety glasses.

Introduction to Metal Jewelry

Beginners, Adult Instructor: Katja Toporski This class will introduce the basic metal working skills required for jewelry making. This includes cutting, piercing, drilling and rolling sheet metal, basic soldering using silver solder, filing and shaping, methods of cleaning metal, sanding and polishing. Simple chain making and texturing metal will also be covered. Bring a sketchbook for your ideas and notes!
