Business & Career

5 Habits to Avoid

at your Office

I

t is a common situation when you’ve done some mistakes at all the phases of your life. Of course you also have done some mistakes while you work at office. But do you ever think that you can prevent such things happen before it has done? Sure, I bet you will have a better career. Here is the list of habits that you should avoid right now.

1.Too obediently in doing any job I know it is a good thing to finish job as soon as possible but it doesn’t mean that you should act like a detector dog which is start to do the order of its boss. What I mean is, think deeply and then decide which act should be taken at first before you move at another phase. Don’t just work in each detail of your boss order but think something revolutionary and make things planned. 8

2. Being Comfort and Stuck When woman has comfort with her office, she tends to keep the job and stay with her career without any thought to move forward. Hey, this habit can hinder you in your career ladder. Analyze all the benefits if you move to another phase of your career when you have taken a risk. Get off from fear of being failure in your career because it can be a reason why you don’t want to be a risk-taker. Always remember that wisdom comes from failure.

3. Being too available What I mean is you are always there when someone needs you while you don’t even have time for yourself. Take your time to relax after the work hours, and don’t push yourself to do some work which you think you are too tired to make it. Don’t be afraid to say “NO” to your boss or clients, okay?

4.You don’t earn what you should Right now it is very hard to get instant job after you graduate, but it doesn’t mean that you should take any job giving inappropriate salary. If now you are in this situation, think again and don’t just complain and keep silent. Find information about the range salary of your work and if you feel that you are right, never afraid to negotiate your salary with good description of reasons why you should earn more (tell him about the potency you have).

5. Unmatched expenditure Since you are a worker, of course you already have own money to spend but it doesn’t mean you have to spend all the salary of whole months in one action. This habit can influence your performance in office, more than anything else if concerning work requiring money arrangement. You might possibly do corruption because accustomed to intersperse money split secondly.

The Best Places to Find Great Fashion Advice

by Shaan Berg

is one thing in this world today that people want to I fgetthereadvice about the most, it’s fashion. And because your

fashion statement will tell everything about you, where you get advice about it is very crucial. It’s okay to seek fashion tips and advice from your sister or from your best friend from time to time, but if you want to stay current with the latest fashion trends, you would want to get advice from really good sources, especially since the fashion industry changes and evolves constantly. Fashion Magazines

Fashion TV Programs

Magazines are among the oldest sources of fashion information and are no doubt the most reliable ones. They provide great illustrations and because they are a slow-going publication, you can expect that the content they offer are well researched. When it comes to fashion magazines, though, you don’t want to settle for just any publication, but would want to find one that will suit your specific needs. A lot of magazines today that offer fashion tips to both men and women assume that all their readers have much money to spend on the type of outfit they present. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these magazines and they are actually very sincere in their desire to help aspiring fashionistas. However, if you want to stay updated without having to break the bank, choose a publication that is circulated to target a general audience and not just elites.

Another great place to get excellent fashion tips and advice from is your television, particularly fashion channels. Unlike fashion magazines, fashion channels can offer you real, moving models, and are perfect for you if you’re not the type who likes to read lengthy articles and stare at photos of models for several minutes. You wouldn’t want to focus on fashion channels that always feature Victoria’s Secret fashion shows and the like, though, because you really won’t get much help from such programs for your day-today fashion. Instead, look for programs that can offer you practical fashion tips and advice, and ones that you can actually apply using the clothes found in your wardrobe.

Online Fashion TV The rise of the internet gave birth to internet TV, or the digital distribution of TV content through online streaming. It also gave birth to Web television, original TV content that are produced for online broadcasting. The fashion industry has taken advantage of this innovation and you can now find a good number of websites that offer fashion television with Fashion plus as one of them. A combination of fashion magazines and traditional fashion TV, you can find high quality and up-to-date fashion information from such sources and can even get back to the videos and play them anytime you want. Content for these websites are also well researched and are targeted for a general audience, which means you can expect to find fresh, realistic fashion tips and advice from them all the time and be sure you can actually use them on your everyday life. 10

Natural Beauty Trends in

2013

12

by Claire Guerre

W

hat is Natural Beauty to you? Is it allowing the real you to shine? I define Natural Beauty as being as you are without the makeup, weaves, and nails. When I go out all I see around me are women who try so hard to live up to an image that is not real. I see them spend so much money on wigs and weaves just to get that look that they believe society desires.

In the past I have spent so much money on getting my hair relaxed to achieve the straight hair look. I didn’t want the nappy look. I thought that look was ugly. I thought I was ugly when my hair was not straight and that no man would date me. Well in 2010 that all changed. I made the decision to let my nappy hair shine. I no longer relaxed my hair. I chopped my relaxed ends and only allowed my nappy roots to appear. I am not going to lie, it was hard at first for me to get reacquainted with the hair I had when I was a little girl. I did not know what to do with it so I watched every You Tube video on maintaining natural hair. Now 2 years later I love my hair. I feel so good with it. I walk with confidence and I have received compliments from so many people about my natural hair. I feel free. I love having the real me shine through. Since I became natural, I have met so many women who are natural as well. At first I thought it was a trend taking place, but one of the women shared with me, she was always natural. I am noticing so many young girls and women walking out with the twist or twist out styles and the wash n go look. They do not wear any makeup and they look so beautiful. It is amazing to me to see how more women are celebrating their inner beauty and outer beauty by being real with who they are and knowing people accept you for you. I understand in this world people have their own definition of what is beautiful to them. They may believe that having the long straight hair and caked up make up is beautiful. But true beauty is when you can be yourself and loving your physical appearance. I believe there is a trend happening and that trend is women are realizing every day that they are beautiful without the weave, relaxer, and make up. I turn on the television and I see commercials with women with their natural hair and less make up. Women who are mothers, aunts, sisters, and grandmothers are demonstrating to the younger girls and women that it is a great feeling to be a natural beauty. Women are ending the madness of allowing society to dictate to us what is beautiful. We are choosing our natural beauty and it is beautiful. We are finally learning to be authentic with ourselves and accepting who we are. We are becoming more confident because of how we perceive ourselves. We need to continue to allow our natural beauty to shine every second of everyday.

I’m Not OK – I Want To Live Life Out Loud! by Brandy Adamson

17

At the end of the day, music is subjective. It is art.

18

Began as an extension of Women’s International Day, which is March 8th, March has been deemed Women’s History Month. This is a time for both men and women to reflect on the achievements of women around the world. Events are scheduled around the world to highlight the contributions women have made to society. Not only do women maintain households, care for extended family and mend communities, women are also becoming leaders in the business world, making their political mark and advancing medicine.

Empowering and inspiring are two words that are used when describing many women. Women’s Essence Magazine was able to connect with Temika Moore, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Ms. Moore continues to empower humankind through music. She has been featured on several US television networks. Her hit “I’m Not Ok” has become a hit in the USA. We are honored and grateful for the opportunities we have to speak with and highlight women that are living their purpose.

Q

When did you start singing? I started singing at 9 years old in church and professionally as a teen as part of an all female group called Collage formed by Michael “Bass” McCary of Boyz II Men.

Q

What does music means to you? In today’s climate, I have a love hate relationship with music. I love when it’s right and hate when it’s wrong. I love when I hear the perfect lyric set to a beautiful melody or chord. I love the simplicity and timbre of the acoustic guitar. I hate when I can’t reach the heart of a song because of the nonsense of the topic or how the instrumentation or vocal was approached. At the end of the day, music is subjective. It is art. But it is also a platform for speaking to people. It is an aural dialogue between the writer and the listener, and if I have your ear for 3 minutes and 30 seconds, I want to make sure you hear me and hear me loud and clear and at the end of the song you walk away with something of value. Sometimes it’s a pithy hook, sometimes it’s just a conversation.

19

Q

In your last single, ‘I`m not ok’, you talk about the people who are to busy being the rock for everyone but when it comes to them, they get tired and so, when they are asked if they’re okay, the answer is yes. Do you ever said to someone that you`re ok when in fact you weren’t? Absolutely. No one wants to be vulnerable. No one wants to be the “downer” all of the time. Many times out of our own insecurities we want to appear as if we have it all together. I’m guilty of it many times over. But I think when you get to a point in your life where you feel so broken that you can no longer keep up the façade, you become transparent and allow people to see your humanity.

Q

We must ask you. Do you ever listen to your songs when you`re driving? Every now and again, but mainly when I’m preparing for a show. So often I hear people quote my lyrics to me when they are going through a challenging time, and they’ll ask me the same question, “do you listen to your songs?”

Q

How is a day life for you? Do you still have time for yourself ? I am working at improving quality time for myself. It is challenging with the demands of a full time music career and full time “day job” as a project manager. I start my day at 5am and it can often go until the wee hours of the morning. At the start of my day is 15-30 minutes of cardio or weight training and breakfast and at the end of my day I must have at least 15-30 minutes of prayer/devotional time, otherwise I would have a very hard time juggling it all. It’s a sacrifice juggling two full time careers. But I am prayerful it will only be a sacrifice for a short period of time.

Q

You are a very beautiful woman. Do you have any beauty secrets – your diet, a sports or exercise regime? You are too kind. Thank you. No beauty secrets or diets. I make it a point to eat a protein breakfast and get in 15-30 minutes of cardio each morning at least three times a week and try to stay away from the not so good foods, but every once and a while I misbehave as I have a horrendous sweet tooth.

Q

If you were not a singer what would you have been? Do you ever see yourself as an actress? Good question. If I would not have been a singer, I think I would have been a media, record label or television executive. I’ve always dreamed of a career in the music/entertainment industry. It’s all I have ever imagined. I could see myself definitely getting into acting as well.

Q

How do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself continuing to create music and also expanding my business into philanthropy and working with communities to help empower women using media and entertainment as a platform to help advance social change.

Q

We heard you were nominated for Best Female Vocalist at SoulTracks Readers Choice & 55th Grammy® Awards. I want to congratulate you but also to ask, how does it feel? I was entered as a nominee on the first round ballots for both. However, I did not win. But I’m not disappointed. The entertainment business is a challenging and interesting field. So, I am up for the challenge to continue to strive for excellence in my work. Someday soon I will see that gold gramophone on my table.

Q

What inspires you when you write? I am inspired by everything I experience; the good and the bad. I am inspired by God’s word and through reflection and quiet times.

Q 20

What do you want to say to the readers of Women’s Essence Magazine? I create aural chronicles for people who are searching for God; those who desire to understand the world and for those that simply enjoy music without borders.

“I’m Not Ok” is one of those songs that resonates with everyone. This song relates to how often in life you are so busy being the rock for everyone else, you get tired and when someone asks if you’re ok, you say yes, but really you feel like saying No, I’m Not OK; Temika is being transparent about it. Love & Relationships

Dont self sabotage

your relationship with an ego by Claire Guerre

T

he definition of ego from “A Return to Love” is a false belief about us, a lie about who and what we really are. “The ego is our mental powers turned against ourselves.” How many of us allowed our ego to guide us to react in a way we later regret? Does the ego help or hurt us? I believe if people did not have egos, the world would be a peaceful place. We let our ego take over because we have insecurities and fears. We imagine or interpret something in a negative way and we lash out to show that we are not afraid or hurt when we really are. The question is what are we afraid of? The ego is an imposter inside of us and it makes us play these silly games. The ego makes us believe it is ok to lie to people and to ourselves. It tells us that we do not love ourselves and people do not love us for who we are but only for what we do. That gives people a sense of inse24

curity to always second guess themselves and to have doubts about who they really are. The ego begins when you start to worry about what people think of you. You start to do your best to make the person like you. When we allow the fear to creep in when someone hurts us, our favorite words are “I’ll show them.” What should we show them? Why spend our precious time trying to show someone what they missed out on while you

can just live life as you please? The ego has a great way of keeping you in the past which makes you not live for the present; you just wasted the day by reliving the past and how you will make that person pay for hurting you. We are all guilty of living in the past because we only can relate to that place of fear and hurt. The ego does not want you to move forward so you cannot experience personal growth in your life.

The ego has hurt our relationships with friends, family, co-workers, husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, and most importantly ourselves. We have been in relationships when we thought the person was trying to embarrass us, hurt us, and make us feel stupid. When we thought this way, we just let our ego handle it! We did not realize it was the ego lying to us. For example, you and your partner are having an argument and your ego is only focusing on winning the argument. In this case, nobody wins because you end up saying things to each

other you later regret. That was you letting your ego do the work for you. Now you are regretting your argument with your partner. We have the power to ignore our ego by believing the truth about ourselves. We are beautiful and wonderful people with so much love within us to share. We should allow “LOVE” to guide us and not our ego. Check out this great video by Oprah on the “Power of Ego.”

Weddings

The Guest List by Trina Sims

I

nvites to pick, dresses to find, planning your guest list will for sure take most of your time. As it is, like with anything else, It’s never too early in the wedding planning process to start preparing your guest list. Before you announce that you’re having a large wedding and start verbally inviting people, it’s a good idea to sit down, you and your fiancé, and decide just on who will make The Guest List. Setting out to create your guest list may seem easy enough for some, but for others… it can be one of the largest items on your Wedding To Do Check List that takes you right over to that very thin line of planning. There are so many details within details of the Guest List that needs to be cover and considered. 26

Your guest list will be a combination of your several different list and categories. When you start to combine your list with your fiancé’s list, your mother’s list, your father’s list, and your fiancé’s parent’s list you start to realize that you may be in trouble. Then you start to think about adding your coworkers and your neighbors. You finally realize there is simply not enough room for everyone.

However, at some point, you have to take control of the combined list, which will soon become The Guest List… and not let The List take control over you and began to dictate your unplanned budget$$$. After all these two components need to meet somewhere in the middle and agree, right?

List B (“Because we want you there”) would be composed of your immediate and closest family members (that you are in contact w/or on regular terms). Normally, if you have not had contact with someone for a least six months, to a full year, you may want to really consider them for the next list, the C List..

While planning your list, you want to be able to dissect it accordingly, so that it makes since planning wise as to whom you really want at your Wedding. To start breaking your list down, you want to know between the both of you how many guest you are planning to invite together.

List C ( I would like to “C” you there if possible). You can also consider using this list as a Reserve List. If a guest declines from your A or B List, then you can use this list to fill seats as needed if you are in a contract that you must guarantee a specified count for.

So, If you are considering 200 guest total, this means that you will have 100 guest to invite and your fiancé will have 100 guest to invite. And a step further, consider breaking that down even more to get a clearer understanding of just how many invites you actually get per each side.

On average, about 10-15% of the guests on your list will not be able to attend. Once you’ve surpassed this percentage of declined RSVP cards, begin mailing invitations to the guest on your C list in order of importance. Remember you can still send out invites up to at least 2 weeks before wedding date.

After considering this, and making adjustments so that each of you have at least a good half of The Guest List for your immediate family, bridal party, close friends and possible extras, you are now ready to prepare your list accordingly. I call it the ABC List . List A (“Absolutely must be invited) would be composed of your parents and their spouses (and..) your entire bridal party, plus their guest and/ or spouse. This should also include parents of any smaller children that are in the wedding.

Beware that some guest will still not show on the actually day, even after they have sent back the reply to attend. Not to worry, someone always seems to show up to take that empty seats (the unexpected guest that did not RSVP! – they can save the day sometimes….). And at the end of the day, when all is said and done………….. It’s Your Wedding… Make It Your Own

Tips for Creating Sacred Sleeping Space by TrinaNola Keri Sims

A

fter a long day, the one thing we often look forward to is a restful night’s sleep. We usually envision our head landing on our soft pillow as we cuddle up with our cozy comforter and imagine enjoying a long, peaceful night’s sleep. Then in reality we often experience an uncomfortable night of tossing and turning with our minds racing and we wake up feeling tired and frustrated. If you are ready to empower yourself to welcome a more satisfying slumber, read on for quick and easy tips to help you create a sacred sleeping space… Create Sacred Sleeping Space: Is your room a peaceful place to rest or is it a busy space filled with reminders of work, chores, and distractions? • Energetically cleanse your space. Did you know that our spaces collect the energy of unfinished business such as conversations, work, arguments, etc? When this unfinished business is floating around, it can interfere with our ability to get restful sleep. Spaces can be cleared in a variety of ways; here are a few suggestions for you to try and see how they resonate with you. 30

- Establish a bedtime intention such as “I now clear the energy of any unfinished business in this space and I welcome peaceful sleep.” “I declare this space fit for restful slumber and request that only love and light be welcome here.” - Burn herbs and spices like sage, lavender, or cedar (be sure to choose a scent you like that will not be overly stimulating before bed) - Place crystals such as clear quartz in the corners of a room to collect unwanted energy and occasionally clear and recharge them by placing them outside during new/ full moons.

Consider removing electronics like tv’s, computers, and even phones from your sleep space. The lights, vibration, and energy of these items can interfere with our ability to get restful sleep. If the thought of doing this feels too overwhelming at first, start by covering any lights these devices may have and/ or just try removing one of these items at a time and chart your sleep for a week to see what shifts for you. Choose room aesthetics mindfully. How do you respond to the colors and decorations you’ve chosen for your sleep space? It’s important that we are surrounded by colors and objects that generate feelings of peace in us to promote restful slumber. This doesn’t mean we have to spend a lot of money, but we can make simple changes like bringing in meaningful colors and items to help increase the sacredness of our space. When you walk into your space, do you feel calm, held, comforted? What can you add or take away that would welcome more feelings of peace? Also consider scents that you find soothing that you may add in the form of aromatherapy, natural candles, etc. We each have unique needs that when met will support us in sleeping more peacefully. I invite you to try some of the options above and see how they affect your sleep experience. Stay tuned for an upcoming article I’ll share on emotional and energetic rituals to help promote sleep!
