sprint competitors continued to battle hard for Margay Sprint Championships victories while the rain fell. Skies cleared Monday morning and the Man Cup Series closed its 2014 opener with dry conditions at the 0.7-mile course.

Manufacturers Cup Series kicked off its five-race 2014 season between Christmas and New Years at Daytona International Speedway, where the Man Cup was part of the tripleheader event with WKA Speedway Dirt and the National Road Racing Series that makes up World Karting’s biggest event, Daytona KartWeek. Many of the east coast’s best 2-cycle sprint racers – juniors and seniors – attended Daytona for the Margay Sprint Championships, the traditional opener for WKA’s Man Cup Series. Over 400 entrants competed between Sunday and Monday, Dec. 29-30, after a full day of practice Saturday. For the second straight year Mother Nature played a role in the sprint racing at Daytona KartWeek. A mostly dry day for Saturday practice turned into a full day of rain and racing in the wet Sunday. While periods of the day saw the rain stop, track conditions were mostly wet throughout the event’s qualifying, pre-final and final programs.

Two junior drivers had a big KartWeek in Daytona Beach. Virginia’s Matt Solarczyk and Ohio’s John Paul Southern Jr. capitalized on their experience in Junior and Sportsman categories to each score a big four-win KartWeek at The World Center of Racing.
