20th Claflin University Presidential Scholarship Gala program

ALICE M. BEH LIN , EDUCATIO N Alice M. Behlin is a native of Hampton County, South Carolina, and a 1976 magna cum laude graduate of Claflin College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She earned a Master of Education Degree and a Sixth Year Certificate from the University of South Carolina.

Ms. Behlin has worked in Hampton District One for 38 years as a classroom teacher and guidance counselor. Presently, she is a counselor at Varnville Elementary School and serves as director of guidance for the district.

Mrs. Behlin has served as the assistant secretary and secretary of the Claflin University International Alumni Association. She chairs the Recruitment Committee of Claflin’s Board of Visitors, and is a member of both the Individual Committee for the Capital Campaign and the Alumni Repositioning Task Force.

Ms. Behlin is a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

EMMA L. F LAG LER CO O P ER, EDUCATIO N Emma L. Flagler Cooper of Kingstree, South Carolina, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Claflin College 1954 and a master’s degree in education from South Carolina State College. Mrs. Cooper did further studies at the University of Alabama, the University of South Carolina and Clemson University.

Mrs. Cooper served the Williamsburg County School System for 34 years as a classroom teacher, Title 1 Instructional Coordinator and principal of W.M. Anderson Primary School. She received the professional honor as an outstanding principal for three consecutive years from the District XXII PTA. Mrs. Cooper is a member of the Claflin Alumni Association. She serves on the Trustee Board and as secretary of the United Methodist Women Organization at Bethel United Methodist in Kingstree.

Mrs. Cooper is the wife of the late Bookertee W. Cooper. She has two children and two grandchildren.
