MBB: LAST TIME OUT
Winona State men's basketball knocks off nationally-ranked Dragons in NSIC quarterfinals
SIOUX FALLS - The Winona State University men's basketball team battled Minnesota State University Moorhead in an epic, back-and-forth NSIC quarterfinal, and a dialed-in defensive effort saw the Warriors upend the Dragons 69-65 to continue their remarkable postseason run.
Winona State (21-9, 14-8 NSIC) leaned on an impressive collective defensive effort and received a 20-point outing from Connor Dillon en route to knocking off nationally-ranked MSUM, becoming the only NCAA Division II program to beat MSU Moorhead twice this season.
WSU had a sub-par night shooting the basketball but an impressive team mindset defensively and on the boards, with Todd Eisner's squad handling all the small details against the ninth-ranked Dragons. Brock Voigt added 13 along with 10 rebounds in perhaps the most important double-double of his Warrior career Voigt was a one-man wrecking crew of the MSU Moorhead offense in the second half, as the NCAA Division III transfer collected two blocks and three steals '
Voigt's exploits in the trenches helped offset a second half in which Winona State did not make a single 3-pointer and a game where WSU was just 13-of-23 (56 5%) at the foul line Olumide Adelodun chipped in 10 points and four rebounds, while Connor Drew hauled in nine boards and had a pair of steals
The tightly-called contest saw Declan Dillon deal with some foul trouble throughout the game, but Jordan Wilkins, Devon Fielding, and Carson Arenz all shouldered heightened workloads with extended shifts off the bench in both halves. WSU led 35-30 at the half and outlasted the Dragons in a frantic final five minutes to secure the four-point 6965 Warrior win.
WSU Stats Standouts:
Connor Dillon 20 points, 5 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds
