POLICE POST PADDY WAGON ON PARADE
Milwaukee Police Post No. 415 is comprised of Armed Forces veterans who have also served in the Milwaukee Police Department. In 1941 it acquired this original Milwaukee police vehicle for appearances in parades, car shows and various civic functions around the greater Milwaukee area. The wagon has had some distinguished passengers over the years and even appeared in a TV movie. A troupe of “Keystone Kops” -- active and retired officers wearing authentic Milwaukee police uniform items dating back to the 1880s -- often accompanies the wagon on parades, and their clown antics have delighted millions, young and old alike. With all the use this vehicle
has seen over the years, it has broken down many times. The six-cylinder engine was replaced about six years ago with a rebuilt motor that was actually two years older than the original. In 2015 the radiator blew and had to be rebuilt. The post replaced the side windows with screens for parade use, and the once-black truck was repainted dark blue. Everything else is original on the wagon except for directional lights and The American Legion emblem and the printed lettering. In its original police role, the wagon was used for transporting prisoners. Since it became Legion property its passengers have included entertainers
