World War II Veteran Leaves Lasting Legacy to the Department KENOSHA - Harald Paul Kahlert, age 97, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at St. Catherine’s Hospital, Pleasant Prairie following a brief illness. He was born in Racine, October 18, 1918, son of the late Paul and Anna Kahlert and had been a lifelong area resident. Harald served in the U.S. Army during WW II and retired as Army Commander Sergeant Major, Fourth

Brigade of the 84th Division U.S. Army Reserves. On November 18, 1950 in Kenosha, he was united in marriage to Dorothy J. Hefflefinger who preceded him in death September 9, 1995. Harald was active in many civic organizations but was most committed to his fellow veterans through his efforts in The American Legion and our subsidiary organizations. His American Legion life experience began as a member of the Boy’s of “76” Drum and Bugle Corps in Racine. Mr. Kahlert was a member of the Harvey R. Hansen Post No. 310 in Racine at the time of his death with 72 years of continuous membership, having joined The

AMERICAN LEGION FAMILY GOLF OUTING The Annual State Golf Outing is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour. The first 18 teams to register are guaranteed placement. If you don’t have a full team, please submit an application and you will be placed in a foursome with others. The shotgun start will be a t 10:00AM on September 9th, with a lunch at the turn. The cocktail hour and banquet have been moved up to accommodate travel and a Green Bay Packers home game. Make your plans early to assure motel and hotel accommodations because the scheduled Packers game. If you are entering as a team, organize your foursome and submit a check for $70 per golfer. Price includes 18 holes of golf,

a cart, lunch and banquet. Extra banquet tickets will be $15 each for your guests. Submit payment, team member names and a phone number and an email address for a contact person in order to help in keeping informed. Players can be Legionnaires, Auxiliary or SAL members. American Legion in 1945. He served as Post No. 310 Commander in 195051 and was also a 50 year member of Squadron No. 449 of the Sons of The American Legion Squadron. He served on the Department Contest Committee which set up the rules and regulations for drill teams, drum corps, and bands before it was discontinued and was co-chairman of the Junior American Legion Baseball Team in Racine for many years. Harald took special pride in serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the Pearl Harbor Activities in Racine, as the Harvey R. Hansen Post No. 310 was named for a sailor killed on December 7, 1941 and was the first post-WWII American Legion Post to receive a charter in the Department of Wisconsin. Harald was also a Past Racine County Commander and Adjutant, a Past 1st District Sergeant at Arms and Racine Post No. 310 Oratorical Chairman. He was very active in Voiture No. 497 of the 40 et 8 and other veterans causes and activities too numerous to name in the space here allowed. Legionnaire Kahlert’s commitment to The American Legion lives on through a generous legacy gift he has provided the Department from his estate.
