Friends are the most iconic protection ever made. Throughout their 38 year tenure, although the construction has changed, their essence remains the same. At the heart of each iteration has been the definitive 13.75˚ cam angle; described, refined and developed by Wild Country and proven in thousands of miles of cracks climbed since 1977! This new Friend is no different, built with a twin axle it remains a Friend. At its core our 13.75 constant cam angle provides the axis around which future climbers will place their trust. Robust and reliable this Friend combines classic features and significant additions to create an intriguing mix of old and new.
New stem
Externally, stylish with significant design flourishes mean the eye is drawn to any number of clever upgrades: hollow axles are stiffer for less weight; wide, skimmed lobes grip better yet are kinder on the rock; new 12mm dyneema is agile and easily extended, saving time and the weight of having to use a quickdraw on each.
Trigger stop Ergonomic floating trigger design
Internals are based on classic Wild Country foundations; our legendary holding power and the consistency of overlap between units, whilst the twin axle has allowed us to increase the range per unit.
Never defined by how it is built, but by how it performs, the Friend’s iconic status is simply enhanced by this twin axle version.
Injection moulded ergonomic thumb stop
Crucially, this is design at its most practical making the new Friend the only twin axle cam that combines the convenience and comfort of a thumbloop with the speed and utility of an extendable sling. Faster, smoother, lighter in use and superbly finished; our clever combination of key features with innovative engineering makes the new Friend the most complete cam available.

TECHNICAL FRIENDS
ROCKS The Rock with its curved sides is a Wild Country original and revolutionised how we protect routes. Still the backbone of any good rack, the current incarnation is considerably more advanced than its predecessor and significantly lighter as well. Keeping the original groundbreaking curve, Rocks now come with thinner, lighter sidewalls, a lateral side taper, anodised heads for quick selection and an extended range – with fourteen sizes in all. Its function is independent from the loading orientation of the rope, thus eliminating one of the most common causes of belay related accidents. Irrespective of the situation, an uncontrolled descent will cause the inertia reel to activate, grip the rope and arrest the fall.

Smooth outer profile
Two outer shell finishes, matt and translucent colours
The new Cirrus helmet brings together today's most advanced materials, technology and design to give climbers the very best protection with style. The inner shell, made of EPP (Expanded Polypropylene), absorbs multi-directional impacts from any angle, EPP does not stay compressed like EPS and will protect you repeatedly. Severe impacts will require retirement from use like all climbing equipment. For added protection the ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) outer shell provides a strong but lightweight solution whilst enclosing the integrated ventilation system, comprising of channels through the inner EPP shell allowing convection to draw heat away from the wearer. Convection explained; Gas (in this case sweat vapour from the climbers head) is generally less dense than the outside environment, so it is drawn away from the climber's head. Even on a hot day the heat generated by the wearer will create this gradient effect. In this way, convection currents transfer heat away from the climber's head to the outside of the helmet. By utilising the physics we are able to create a helmet with a smooth outer profile with its inspiration drawn from Skate Boarders clean ‘cool' designs.

To compliment the technology and clean design we chose two outer shell finishes, matt and translucent colours combine with the black EPP inner shell to create a stunning design statement radically different to anything currently available. As you would expect all the usual helmet components are integrated beautifully within the overall design, one handed cradle adjustment wheel and torch clips which fit into the forward facing vents are cleverly positioned for optimum efficiency.

The new hard shell Fusion helmet combines a strong polypropylene outer with an EPS layer, attached by simple mechanical joints. This new system provides greater flexibility between layers, making the model less susceptible to damage. Simple adjustment through the ‘Quik-Clik’ dial fine-tunes the two available sizes for a perfect fit. Additional comfort is provided through a removable and washable lining. A small brim adds additional coverage for ice and rock fall. Strong, slick and well vented, the Fusion helmet is great all-rounder for mountain or rock action.

A longer short that combines durability, stretch and fast drying features with a technical cut and articulated knee to create a long climbing short that’s excellent to move in. The Session finishes just below the knee hence there’s enough coverage for knee bars and more 3D climbing. The flat elastic waist band doesn’t compromise the use of these shorts with a harness and two front pockets and a zip leg pocket provide some storage.

Made from a light cotton/linen blend the Rhythm Pant is a superb addition to our collection. A gusseted crotch and gathering at the knee articulate this pant allowing a greater freedom of movement. The hem at the base of the leg is elasticated keeping the material of the lower leg out of harm’s way when heel hooking etc. This pant includes a comfortable waist band with some light regulation to adjust the fit.
Crafted from a built to last denim this strong fabric blend creates an exceptionally comfortable feel for the wearer. These classic jeans with their 4 pockets and slim tapered fit come complete with Wild Country logo embossed hardware throughout. The deep indigo blue colouring and washed finish provides a slightly worn-in look. This knitted beanie with its stretchy merino/ synthetic blend and internal headband for comfort offers some added warmth for those cold windy days at the crag. Based on the original Pertex fabric, Pertex Classic remains the benchmark for durable yet lightweight shell fabrics. It provides excellent weather protection with a highly water repellent finish, the durable windproof construction is fast drying and abrasion resistant. The breathability of Pertex comes from the fabrics use of capillary action using denier gradients. Pertex combines two yarns with different properties. Capillary action moves moisture from larger inner filaments to smaller outer filaments without passing through the air.

TENCEL is the lyocell fiber from the house of Lenzing. It is of botanic origin, since it is extracted from the raw material wood. Fiber production itself is extremely ecofriendly, due to the closed loop system. On the day that the fiber TENCEL® was invented, a new chapter was written in the history of fibers. Textiles of TENCEL® are more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen.
Cotton generally enjoys a positive image but its production process is not exactly environmentally friendly, organic cotton is different. Its production is eco-friendly without the use of pesticides, natural soil fertility management techniques are applied such as crop diversification and the use of organic composts and manures. Replacing conventional cotton with organic cotton also creates opportunities for small farmers to sell their harvest more easily. Organic cotton has the same benefits as a fabric, it’s soft to the touch, comfortable next to the skin with hypoallergenic characteristics whilst being environmentally friendly.

It’s comfortable, durable and retains 85% of its insulation value even when it’s wet. PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation Eco is made with 70% recycled polyester and provides superb thermal efficiency, water- and windresistance, compressibility and breathability. It uses postconsumer recycled material to create a high loft, thermally efficient, earth-friendly insulation.
This sustainable technology takes used coffee grounds and infuses them into the polyester yarns surface giving the fabric a faster drying time, the ability to absorb odours and reflect UV rays.

These procedures are an integral part of our Quality Assurance System. From the data obtained from destruction testing, the average (or mean) and sample standard deviation (which is a measure of variance based upon the results obtained) is calculated. 3õ is three times the sample standard deviation. When 3õ is deducted from the mean result obtained, we can predict the spread of results which would be obtained if we were to destroy the entire batch (which is why we sample only!). We monitor this data closely from batch to batch to ensure that the rated strength (as marked on the product) is always less than the mean minus three times the sample standard deviation. This ensures that the minimum breaking strength for all products is consistently higher than the rated strength as marked on the product. UIAA SAFETY LABEL – The UIAA Safety Label can be awarded for mountaineering and climbing equipment that meets the requirements of the relevant UIAA standard. In order to prevent unnecessary multiplicity of standards, the UIAA standards are based on the European standards (EN standards, also called CEN standards). The EN standards, in turn, are based on the former UIAA standards, which were the first standards for mountaineering and climbing equipment in the world. The present UIAA standards may have higher and/or additional requirements above those in the EN standards.
