LEVEL 05/06 PROGRESS EVALUATION The following form is designed to focus your self-evaluation, personal reflection and design strategy planning for the second year of the course. This should help you to identify necessary areas of interest, working practices, aims and ambitions when planning your return in September. More importantly it should help you identify specific issues that you need to address, skills you intend to develop and creative/professional aspects of design practice that are relevant to you as an individual. As this is form focuses on you as an individual you may find you need to add certain criteria, skills or areas that are relevant to you and your aims. There are spaces left for you to add content. Your evaluation will form the basis of discussion during your first tutorial in the second year. Your response to this task should be posted to your PPP blog and labelled ‘PROGRESS EVALUATION 05/06’

Identify 10 things that you aim to achieve during level 6, explain why you want to achieve them and how you intend to go about achieving them. Grade them in terms of level of priority. 1

Extend type and layout skills both practically using Indesign and also theoretically researching typography and best practice. These skills/research will be explored as part of one research brief and also incorporated as a part of several other briefs. Continue to challenge conceptual thinking and ideas through strong research and development. This will be achieved through the choice of briefs. Win another Award!

Aim to have a complete draft of my dissertation by 6th January 2013. One of Design Practice briefs will use the dissertation research for extra time efficiency. Plan clear short achievable deadlines.

Gain an understanding of Digital Design for mobile technology. Follow an online App course and then identify a suitable subject to design an App for.

Extend Screen printing skills to include investigating its at the potential for commercial outcome when leaving college. Use to achieve the outcome for one brief but record time to estimate the true costs including labour as well as materials. Explore designing a typeface and understanding how to convert for commercial use. Look at competition briefs for outcomes.

Continue to explore Branding and identity through both retail and product and promotion. This will be achieved practically through live brief but also theoretically through research for my dissertation.

Produce a large piece of exciting design suitable for the end of year show‌potentially an Info graphic style piece through the exploration of the complex links between Music, Bands, Culture and Art. Emphasis on experimental/ avoid being to obvious Collaborate with another student/students especially a photography student. Would like to bid for one of the End of yearbooks as part of a team.

Extend understanding of web development but only to the point where it assists me as Designer. I’ve come to realise the important distinction here. Use of college resources for extra training
