Recommends Jane Goodall’s “Roots & Shoots” 8th Annual Day of Peace Eco Festival In celebration of United Nation’s International Day of Peace, Dr. Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program will host its 8th annual “Day of Peace” festival on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the Santa Monica Pier from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This event will be free to the public The festival’s events will include a food drive for people and pets (please bring non-perishable food items), live music, celebrity guests, environmental activities, pet adoptions, arts and crafts, exhibits and the annual Peace Dove Parade.

Roots & Shoots is a global youth program which provides an opportunity for youth all of ages throughout the world to participate in local and global campaigns that encourage more balanced relationships between people, animals and the environment. Over 600 youth members will display environmental projects that address the concerns of the global community in hopes to inspire individuals to realize their part in creating a better world. Joanna Macy at the Ojai Foundation Next month The Ojai Foundation will host Joanna Macy, a visionary and a leading voice in global movements for peace, justice and an environmentally healthy world, will bring her powerful message and transformative practices in three separate programs. October 7th - 10th THE WORK THAT RECONNECTS Joanna Macy “draws upon spiritual traditions and living systems theory to bring forth the powers” within each individual to be “renewed and deepened for the healing of our world.” The profound practices of this work will inspire vision, courage, and creativity and can be used by teachers, social and environmental activists, healers and more. Ojai Valley’s Green Coalition Hosts 2nd Annual Green Home and Building Tour On Saturday, October 2nd, don’t miss a chance to exclusively tour five of Ojai Valley’s greenest buildings. The Ojai Valley Green Coalition will be hosting — meaning you’ve got a once-in-a-year opportunity to check out innovative homes and offices and learn the latest techniques in green building. Contractors and designers will be onsite to answer questions regarding the eco-friendly features (think lime plaster walls and countertops made of recycled glass bottles.) The Coalition’s mission is to help Ojai become a model green community by promoting sustainable practices, educating on ecological issues and advocating environmental responsibility.
