“anthophile” is a still life and fashion editorial that depicts the soft language of flowers, alluding to a sense of femininity. Flowers bring a sense of happiness to our lives each with its own unique appearance and traits, quite like our personalities. “anthophile” highlights how the beauty and vitality of blooms mirror the strength and grace of the feminine spirit. The narrative explores the juxtaposition of ice’s texture, characterised by its cold and hardness, with the soft nature of petals.

the language of flowers with Juls the florist aka ‘big luv club’ “I love a rose, but I feel like that’s a typical answer… I love sweet pea actually, it’s really cute and fragile” Juls, Director and Florist of Big Luv Club, has been a Sydney florist for 3 years now. She describes her floral style as colourful, soft and romantic. Not fitting into one specific category, she likes to focus on the details in her work. When asked what flowers mean to her, Juls states that it sounds cheesy but they are a reminder of the fragility of life, they are so beautiful and To Juls, flowers being something it makes her feel very grounded. that can reflect the soft nature of femininity is all about how flowers are so vulnerable, the fact that they are a living thing and that there’s a definite feminine quality to them. A popular flower choice Juls has noticed are roses, all the time, they always work. Right now what’s trendy is the summer garden look, very classy, “a spring soiree kind of thing”, a lot of grouped flowers and abundance, but things always come and go with flowers. Shannon Read
