Diana Pfersick, of Rush, has been reelected to the Board of Directors of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY). A 28-year member of FASNY, Pfersick is a veteran registered nurse (RN) who was a school nurse for ten years with the Wayne Central School District and a member of the Rush Fire Department since 1991. She has held positions with the department such Diana Pfersick as secretary, Vice President, and President as well as a former Lieutenant of the Ambulance. “My goal as a director is to assure that FASNY operates in the best interest of all volunteer firefighters in New York State,” said Pfersick, “I take the responsibilities of being a director very seriously, and part of it is assuring that our volunteers are supported in every way possible. I want to do all I can to make sure that our volunteer firefighters are guaranteed that their voices will be heard and that any issues they face are addressed.”

Pfersick worked for Highland Hospital in Rochester for more than 34 years. She served as the Nurse Educator for the last ten years of her career with Highland Hospital, where her duties included providing instruction and orientation for new staff. Prior to that position, Pfersick worked as a surgical nurse, a labor and delivery nurse, and a nurse in the nursery. Among her many awards and honors, she has received recognition as Highland Hospital Employee of the Month, the American Legion Certificate of Commendation for Outstanding Public Service, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Rush Fire Department. Pfersick has also participated in the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association (MCVFA), where she was the first female president in 2008. Currently, she serves as the secretary. Pfersick is active in the Northern Central Volunteer Firemen’s Association and the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association as well. In September of 2018, Pfersick was awarded the Civilian Service Award from the Monroe County Sheriff ’s Office for performing CPR on her husband of 19 years, Royer, after he went into cardiac arrest. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). On August 17, Mitchell scored 57 points in the first round Game 1 against the Denver Nuggets. It was the first time opposing players, Mitchell and Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets, have gone 45 plus points in a playoff game. This has never happened in the history of the NBA. Six days later, on August 23, the 24-year-old scored 51 points for the second time in a playoff series, one for the record books. Veteran nurse re-elected to FASNY Board of Directors

Churchville-Chili High School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 19, to celebrate the Grand Opening of the school’s new pool and athletic facilities. The capital project was approved by voters in 2016. After the ceremony, students led tours of the facilities for community members in small groups. Genesee County 4-H seeks new members The Genesee County 4-H Program is now accepting new youth members for the upcoming 4-H year that runs from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. 4-H is a nationwide youth program that connects youth age five to 18 to a variety of hands-on learning opportunities. There are many different clubs and programs offered by the Genesee County 4-H Program. Project areas include animal sciences, sewing, leadership, community

newsmakers Taylor Rae Hullfish was named to the fall and spring 2019-2020 dean’s list at The College at Brockport. Taylor is a 2018 graduate of Brockport High School. Her grandparents are William and Suzanne Hullfish of Clarkson.

Chester John Palozzi of Rochester, graduated from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas in August 2020. Palozzi earned a master of science degree in health, physical education, and recreation.

Tiana Haines of Rochester, graduated from Le Moyne College with a bachelor of science in biology and was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list.

The following students graduated from SUNY Oneonta. •Bryanna D’Agostino of Bergen, with a bachelor of science degree in psychology with a minor in IDS - women and gender studies. •Marianne Swan of Spencerport, bachelor of science in environmental sustainability and English with the following honors: English, enviromental sustainability, summa cum laude.

The following local students were named to the 2020 spring dean’s list at Edinboro University, Edinboro, Pennsylvania. •Jessica M. Giannoccaro of Rochester (14624) •Sophie C. DePalma of Spencerport •Emily E. Walz of Spencerport. Kelly Mohan of Spencerport, graduated spring 2020 from Edinboro University, Edinboro Pennsylvania. She earned a bachelor of science in social work. Joseph Laure of Hilton, graduated in spring 2020 from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a Juris Doctor in Law.

Dana Damiani of Churchville, was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list from Nazareth College. James N. Huber of North Chili, was named to second honors for the spring 2020 dean’s list at Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts. To be eligible for second honors, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, of a maximum of 4.3 (all A+s). Nathaniel Henry Vitale of Spencerport, was named to the 2020 dean’s list at Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, Massachusetts.
