Monroe County celebrating Bicentennial On January 5, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello launched Celebrate More, a community-wide celebration of events tied to the Monroe County Bicentennial. It will bring people from across the community together in celebration of all that Monroe County has to offer, from historic, cultural, and educational festivals to family-friendly activities and special events. “Monroe County’s bicentennial showcases the rich history of our region and it comes at a time when we all want to safely gather again,” said County Executive Bello. “We are on the path to recovery, bringing Monroe back and planning forward to make a healthier, safer, more equitable and more exciting Monroe County as we start our next 200 years. Let’s engage in our celebrations, but do so smartly: remember to vax, boost, and mask, so we can all Celebrate More together.” The celebration of the Monroe County Bicentennial recognizes the proud history and the promising future of Monroe County. This celebration includes the return of existing events, several of which have not taken place since 2019, alongside exciting new events and activities, including festivals, concerts, parades, and educational programming. Monroe County is partnering with libraries and historians in its towns, villages and the City of Rochester to educate and bring to life the history of our region. Celebrate More also recognizes and commemorates other milestone anniversaries and events for community groups large and small – everything from Garth Fagan Dance, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Eastman School of Music, Geva Theatre Center, the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse, and more. Community groups including neighborhood associations, faith organizations, and local businesses are encouraged to participate by including and promoting their events on the Celebrate More website at CelebrateMore200.com. Celebrate More is participating with existing community events and festivals, including the Rochester Lilac Festival, the Rochester International Jazz Festival, along with new events and activities created for the Bicentennial. Details on new events will follow. Local businesses can play a key role with Celebrate More, including sharing events and promotions with a Monroe County or bicentennial theme, or by supporting and sponsoring events. Businesses are encouraged to visit CelebrateMore200.com to submit events, sponsorship or collaboration inquiries. “Local businesses have played an important role in the history of Monroe County for the past 200 years, putting us on the cutting edge of technology and in-

novation,” said Bob Duffy, President and CEO, of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce. “That progress continues today with the resilient businesses that are driving our economy and powering us into the future.” The observation of Monroe County’s bicentennial officially began in 2021, but due to COVID-19, broad scale public and community celebrations were postponed until 2022. Previous bicentennial events included a Monroe County night at the Rochester Red Wings, a Monroe Countythemed weekend and Agricultural Fair at Genesee Country Village and Museum, the Rochester Summer Soul Festival, 2021 KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival, and the planting of a bicentennial tree. Bicentennial Co-Chairs include Faheem Masood, president and chief executive officer of ESL Federal Credit Union; Carolyn Vacca, Monroe County historian and professor and chair of the History Department at St. John Fisher College; Rev. Derrill Blue, senior pastor of the Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church on Clarissa Street; and Shannon Ealy, co-chair of the RocCity Coalition. “Monroe County’s bicentennial is the opportune moment for us to come together and celebrate all that our community has to offer,” said Faheem Masood. “While the pandemic has and continues to impact all of our lives, we will press onward into the new year with hope and optimism. Let Monroe County’s bicentennial be our community’s time to celebrate amongst our families, friends, and neighbors. Let us honor and celebrate all of the wonderful people, organizations, and events that make our community such a wonderful place to call home.” “The history of Monroe County provides a most magnificent drama, most fitting for the theme, Celebrate More. I am honored to be able to serve as one of the Co-Chairs working to make this a year of remembrance and vision,” said Carolyn Vacca, Monroe County historian. “Throughout the year, the town and village historians will be holding events, sharing their vast knowledge of our municipalities, and contributing to our understanding of how we came to be who we are today. Looking back to the original residents, the Native Americans, we will acknowledge all the diverse groups who built our community and faced challenges we can only imagine. We will be working to develop inclusive curriculum materials for schools and libraries so that all students can see their role as citizens of our community.” Celebrate More news, events, and updates will be regularly added to the bicentennial website at CelebrateMore200. com, as well as Monroe County and Visit Rochester’s social media platforms. Village of Brockport awarded two grants The Village of Brockport was recently awarded two grants in New York State’s 2021 Consolidated Funding Program. A Parks and Recreation grant for $248,915 was a reminder to keep trying. This was Brockport’s fourth and ultimately successful application for improvements to Corbett Park, the village’s largest park. Planned improvements include redoing trails to make them accessible, upgrading tennis and basketball courts, paving parking lots, dredging and restoring the park’s pond, and installing a fitness court to replace the old fitness trail of equipment. A Canalway grant for $47,626 will provide an access path to the Empire State Trail from McCormick Place. The public, ADA-compliant path with handrails will serve the Havenwood, Cloverwood, Meadow Lane, and McCormick Place neighborhoods. Provided information

Steel Magnolias at OFC

UPDATE: All Bodine tour group members must be fully vaccinated 2 weeks prior to departure. This keeps all of our guests safe and is a requirement for several venues we travel to. An Excelsior Pass is the best method to prove you are in compliance.

ROAD tRIpS wItH BODINE

OFC Creations Theatre is presenting Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias from January 14 through 16. The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength – and love – which give the play and its characters the special quality to make them truly touching, funny, and amiable company in good times and bad. Performances take place Friday, January 14, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, January 15, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, January 16, at 2 p.m. at the OFC Creations Theatre Center, 3450 Winton Place, Rochester. Tickets are $12 and are available for purchase online at www.ofccreations.com or by phone at 667-0954. Provided information

Comments Monroe County leaders on surge in COVID cases On January 5, we reported 4,094 new cases of COVID19. Home tests accounted for 2,270 of the cases. That is a huge number, but not unexpected. These numbers reflect the holiday season, the use and reporting from county purchased home rapid test kits, and school districts’ directives to test students prior to returning from their holiday time off. These numbers show our plan to flood the county with rapid tests is working. Despite the national shortage of tests, Monroe County is able to lead in at-home testing because of our strong federal partners, Congressman Joe Morelle and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, who procured the funds for the county to purchase and distribute more than 750,000 rapid antigen tests to our residents. Today alone, the home tests will help prevent new infections by thousands of individuals that may not have known they were positive with the virus. The expected surge of Omicron is why the county increased testing sites, added vaccination sites, launched the Vax-Boost-Mask initiative, and is currently supplying KN95 masks to essential employees and first responders. Our focus throughout this pandemic and in this current surge is to keep people alive and to keep our hospitals and ICUs functioning without limiting other necessary medical care. While our infection numbers are spiking, our hospitalizations have remained high, but stable. The most recent data available shows 531 hospitalized in our region with COVID and 121 in ICU. As we have already seen, this latest surge will cause some rolling closures and restrictions in healthcare services, schools, and some businesses. But if we all do the right thing, Vax-Boost-Mask and test, we will get through this surge without shutting down our businesses, stores, restaurants, and workplaces. Please be vigilant, have yourself and your family vaccinated and boosted, wear a quality mask in indoor public places, and get tested either at home or at one of the free county testing sites that can be found on monroecounty.gov. Adam Bello, Monroe County Executive Dr. Michael Mendoza, Monroe County Commissioner of Public Health

Name Sweden’s skatepark or sponsor a brick The Town of Sweden has launched a campaign to raise funds for its new Skatepark at the Sweden Town Park, 4761 Redman Road. Construction will take place in the early summer of 2022. The town is soliciting proposals for the naming rights to the Skatepark and to primary features at the skatepark through a Request For Proposal process. The Request can be found on the town website at www.townofsweden.org or at the Sweden Town Hall, 18 State Street. The Skatepark is funded in large part by the Ralph Wilson Jr. Foundation and The Skatepark Project through a $250,000 grant and $50,000 environmental award. The fundraising campaign will further reduce the cost to local taxpayers. The Sweden Community Foundation is also helping with the campaign by selling bricks that will be installed

at the skatepark. Two sizes of bricks are available: 4” by 8” with three lines of writing up to 15 characters per line for $125; and 9” by 9” with four lines of writing up to 17 characters per line for $250. Brick purchases are a way to honor or memorialize someone, to celebrate an occasion, or promote a business. All proceeds benefit the skatepark. Both naming rights and brick purchases are tax deductible. For more information about the naming rights or brick purchases, email supervisor@townofsweden.org or call the town at 637-7588. The deadline for a Naming Rights Proposal submission is January 28, 2022. Brick sales will be on-going for several months. Naming Rights RFPs and brick sales forms are available at the Sweden Town Hall or by emailing supervisor@townofsweden. Provided information

Chili church sponsors two families at Christmas The ACE Team (Advent Christmas Epiphany) from the First Presbyterian Church of Chili chose to support Continuing Developmental Services (CDS) as their Mission Outreach Project in December. Brenda Naugle, a member of the church and the ACE Team, works for this agency. The organization believes everyone deserves the right to both quality and choice of care. CDS provides comprehensive opportunities for socialization and skill development, employment and career

training, family training, education and support, as well as community based residential services. The church sponsored two families, each of whom has a child supported by CDS. A Christmas tree in the Fellowship Hall was adorned with ornaments that included a person’s name and an item they would enjoy receiving for Christmas. Members of the congregation chose one or more ornaments with the gift ideas. Over two dozen gifts were purchased and delivered to these families. The recipients were overwhelmed and grateful for the generosity of the church making their Christmas season a little brighter. Provided information and photo

Mike’s

politically speaking Jensen: Protect, not defund, our police Every day, I hear from people that I represent who are concerned and alarmed by the rise in crime we’re seeing in our community on a nearly daily basis. Every day, the news is filled with violent crime, affecting families wherever they call home. This is much different from the community I grew up in and not the one I envision for my three-year-old children to grow up in either. The future looks bleak, but it doesn’t have to be this way. In order to turn around this disturbing trend we’re seeing across the state, public safety needs to be the utmost priority as we head into the 2022 Legislative Session. That’s why I support legislation to help men and women in law enforcement address public safety concerns within our communities. In an attempt to discourage reckless behavior and mass shootings, I have sponsored a bill to make it a felony to fire a gun in a crowded space (A.4259). To keep repeat criminals off our streets, I supported legislation to restore judicial discretion for our judges, so they can evaluate if an individual is a public safety risk (A.4964). I’ve also advocated for a bill to increase the penalties for harassing a police officer (A.6578). It is important that we implement measures such as these to make all community members feel safe where they call home. As prisons in our community and across the state face

closures, we must also direct our attention to those being released back into communities. We need to ensure that violent offenders are not able to be released before their debt to society is paid, and once they complete their sentences, provide them with the support and resources necessary to integrate back into our communities without reoffending and ending up back in prison. This is why I proudly support measures to expand access to mental health services. Our state and nation are facing a mental health crisis. As a community, we need to be lifting up one another to make our community a safer, better place to call home, and these are the types of actions necessary to progress in the right direction. Instead of pandering to calls to defund the police, we should be supporting our heroic men and women in blue more than ever. Parents should feel safe sending their kids to the playground or for a bike ride in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, for so many parents, the risk would be too great. To successfully address the rise in crime and protect New Yorkers, we must ensure that police have the manpower, equipment, and resources they need to safely and effectively do their jobs to keep us safe. Assemblyman Josh Jensen 134th Assembly District

Hawley: Learn from the Legislature’s mistakes Last year was certainly one for the books, though the reasons 2021 was so notable aren’t necessarily worth celebrating. Our governor resigned in disgrace, more of the businesses we love in our communities shuttered, taxes increased, prices increased, and we passed a budget that cost us more than ever. All while doing less than ever to actually help working families. Throughout, we have also continued to contend with a pandemic that has worn on our economy and the fortitude of New Yorkers across the state, as some in government yet again consider mandates and lockdowns that would assuredly take a tremendous toll on our collective recovery. I say this not to elicit feelings of doom or gloom but out of a hope that by recognizing the mistakes made in state government this year, we can work together to rectify them and put our state on a path toward growth. The circumstances we face have often been described as “unprecedented,” so given the challenges before us, I feel that we have an opportunity to work collaboratively to deliver solutions many in the Legislature haven’t given a fair shake in the past. To put it simply, I believe that the best way of fostering prosperity here in New York state is to unleash the power of its people by staying out of the way of their success. By creating a business climate that will attract the brightest minds our nation has to offer, and that will retain the talents we have. More than anything, we need to give people a reason to believe New York’s brightest days are still ahead. Perhaps, most important, we must also ensure that people feel safe living and starting families here. To do

so, we must give our law enforcement and judiciary the tools they need to protect our neighborhoods. The end of the decay of our villages, towns, and cities will begin with the rescinding of our state’s dangerous bail reform laws. These changes have tied the hands of our judges and empowered criminal elements to act with impunity, knowing that they will be released back onto the streets, even if they’re apprehended. In 2022, we must collectively recognize that bail reform was a mistake and restore law and order throughout New York. Here in New York, we’ve tried raising taxes, we’ve tried heavy-handed mandates, and we’ve tried various police “reforms,” all to the detriment of our state’s public safety and prosperity. If there was ever a time for a change to give New Yorkers a chance to chase their dreams and lift up their communities in the process, that time is now. This year, let’s give New Yorkers a chance to control their own destinies, put an end to one-size-fits-all mandates and empower individuals and local governments to do what’s best for their families and the municipalities they know and love. New Yorkers are the toughest and most industrious people in this entire country, and they deserve a legal and economic climate that will allow them to unleash what they’re capable of onto the national and global marketplace. This year let’s make New York work for those who seek to better their lives and communities through hard work. Assemblyman Steve Hawley 139th Assembly District

Once again we were overwhelmed by the response of our community in the generous donations of gift cards, money, toys, turkeys, and some food. We thank all individuals for their donations and participation, especially the folks who delivered the goods to waiting families. A huge thank you to Lynn Phillips for coordinating the volunteers this year. In December we served 110 families (444 people), delivering gift cards, turkeys, some food, and 176 toys to young children. We recognize these businesses and groups who support us by contributing gift cards, toys, food, and boxes: Tops Market, Colby Homestead Farms, Victory Packaging in Liverpool, Barton’s Parkside Hots, Spencerport Rotary, Spencerport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, SHS Student Government (Nicole Arbore), SHS Jazz Band (Jeannie Glozer), The Church Ladies (St John’s), Town & Country Eyecare Associates, Lattimore Physical Therapy-Spencerport, Spencerport United Methodist Church, Canal View Elementary School, and Churchville Lions Club. Our financial backers include J. William Jewelers, Donald F. and Maxine B. Davison Foundation, St. John the Evangelist Church, Ogden Baptist Church, Deacon Fund Ogden Baptist Church, Kiwanis Club of Spencerport, First Congregational Church, Spencerport Lions Club, Barefoot Management Inc., Ferris Goodridge Unit No. 330, Spencerport Federal Credit Union, Spencerport Firemen’s Benevolent Association Exempts, Terry Taylor Elementary School, and Obatron Productions. Another great effort by our Toy Coordinator, Donna Granger, ensured that all young kids received a gift. We thank our Toy Tree sponsors Ginny Swarthout (The Unique Shop), Cathy Fowler (Fowler’s Canaltown Wine & Spirits), and Nancy Bodhorn (Spencerport Federal Credit Union). We are so appreciative of the folks who selected the angels and bought and wrapped gifts for the children. Donna is grateful to her team of wrappers and organizers – Mikayla Granger, Pam Cooper, Donna Perry, and Marie Laveck. We are indebted to Scout Troop 165 for loading vehicles. For handling many deliveries, we thank Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department Explorers (Chris Damon) and Gates Volunteer Ambulance (Rich Verdouw). We thank transporters of food, toys, boxes, and shopping carts: Greg Dorgan, Bruce Kolb & Steve McCagg, Erin Khuns, Jim & Joann Grassi, Lynn Phillips. We depend on our scribe Ginny Mosher, Helen Grigg & Marie Laveck for keeping order in packing, Danielle Phillips, Marcia Meyer, and Alicia Saladyga for keeping deliveries on track, and Grant Wolfe for the eggs. We appreciate the energy, thoughtfulness, and inventiveness our committee employs to attack this effort each year, but especially during COVID. Thank you Lynn Phillips, Jim & Joann Grassi, and Donna Granger. We wish to thank our sponsors, the Ecumenical Council of Churches: St. John the Evangelist, First Congregational Church, Spencerport United Methodist Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, Ogden Baptist Church, Ogden Presbyterian Church, and Spencerport Wesleyan Church. FASNY kicks off 150th anniversary year with an update to its name In 1872, a group of firemen gathered in upstate New York and founded the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY). As FASNY prepared for the 150th Anniversary of the Association in 2022, the Association’s leadership not only looked back at its history, but also began planning for the next 150 years. “FASNY and the volunteer fire service have changed dramatically since our humble beginnings in 1872. We are very proud of our history,” said FASNY President John Farrell. “The Presidents and the Board of Directors view this special anniversary as an opportunity to honor our past, while simultaneously positioning FASNY for an even better future.” Over the years, FASNY’s logos and symbols have evolved with time, but one thing remained a constant – the association’s name. At the December meeting of the Board of Directors, a motion was passed unanimously to update the Association’s name from its historical 1872 origins to The Firefighters Association of the State of New York. “We all felt it was time,” said President Farrell. “The volunteer fire service has grown and changed greatly from the late 19th century. While our original name was based on the fire service of 1872, our new name positions us for the 21st century.” “We did not make this change lightly. We know and respect the great history of our association. We also know that our name, like our logos, symbols and actions, must represent today’s volunteer fire service,” added First Vice President Edward Tase. The Association has already begun the process of updating its logos and signage to reflect the new name. As with any major change of this nature, it may take some time before it is in place in all applications. For information, visit www.fasny.com. Provided information

Registration underway for Sunnking’s e-Scrap for Camp fundraiser Regional electronics recycler Sunnking has launched registration for its 2022 e-Scrap for Camp fundraiser benefitting Camp Good Days and Special Times, a non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for children, adults, and families whose lives have been affected by cancer. Businesses and organizations in the Rochester and Buffalo areas are encouraged to sign-up to participate for free at eScrapforCamp.com. The registration deadline is February 4, 2022. Businesses will collect electronics from their company, employees, friends, and family members for two weeks. Sunnking provides boxes to gather those devices and offers free, contactless delivery and pickup. For every pound of electronics recycled from participating organizations during the fundraiser,

a portion of the proceeds is donated to Camp Good Days to fund future programs. Collections begin on February 28 in the Rochester area and May 2 in the Buffalo area. “We live in these communities and do business in these communities, so to partner with hundreds of other companies on this campaign allows us to all come together despite the current conditions affecting our area,” said Adam Shine, Vice President of Sunnking. “I love knowing this is a chance every year for local organizations to make a big impact and put some big smiles on the faces of these kids.” “The money we receive from this recycling campaign help our kids go to sporting events, concerts, festivals, and a lot of the activities that they love. It’s a small break from the health battles they’re each fighting,” said Lisa Booz, WNY regional direc-

tor of Camp Good Days & Special Times. “Cancer doesn’t stop during a pandemic, and neither does Camp Good Days. So, in part because of fundraisers like e-Scrap for Camp and the businesses that participate, we’ve been able to provide our camp experiences continually throughout these past two years.” 2022 marks the 12th year Sunnking has held the e-Scrap for Camp fundraiser throughout Western New York and the Finger Lakes Region. Last year, 353 businesses contributed as Sunnking gifted $13,357 to the non-profit. Sunnking has donated more than $128,000 throughout the program’s existence. To date, the program has recycled nearly 5.6 million pounds of electronics. Provided information and photo

A portion of the proceeds from Sunnking’s e-Scrap for Camp fundraiser go to Camp Good Days and Special Times to fund programs for children whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

Legal NoticeS Legal Notice Town of Parma 2022 Town and County Tax Collection PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that I, Carrie Fracassi, Tax Receiver for the Town of Parma, upon receipt of the warrant for the collection of Town and County taxes on property within the Town of Parma for the year 2022, will receive payment at the Parma Town Hall, 1300 Hilton Parma Corners Road, P. O. Box 728, Hilton, New York. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Thursdays during the month of February from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office will also be open on Saturday, February 5, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, we are encouraging residents to pay their taxes through the mail or by depositing them into our 24hour drop box to help facilitate social distancing. If there are any changes to our business hours or a need to close the Town Hall facilities all payments can be mailed to our office or deposited into our drop box at the front south end of the Town Hall Building. Any changes will be updated on the Town of Parma website at www.parmany.org. Payment Instructions General and By Mail Information for all Payments: •Payments with a legible valid U. S. postmark dated on or before the payment due date will be used to determine the date of payment. Tax payments delivered by the U.S. Postal Service after the due date that do not contain an official U.S. Postmark but rather contain a “postage meter” mark are not considered timely. •Allow extra time for Direct Payment Checks (often used for online banking) to arrive. Most banks discourage the use of online banking for tax payments because they cannot guarantee your payment will be delivered to our office by the due date and these payments do not contain a postmark. If you utilize on-line banking, you do so at your own risk. •Payments for incorrect amount paid and/or not received in a timely manner will incur interest and penalties. •Payments will be accepted on the next business day, when the last day of a payment period falls on a non business day (weekend, holiday). •Payments made by credit card or electronic check will be accepted via the internet only. Go to website www.monroecounty. gov, select “view/pay taxes online”. Then follow the prompts to retrieve your account information and make payment. Two Hilton businesses recognized for their support of cancer research This is a very challenging time for our community, specifically small businesses. The Edelman-Gardner Cancer Research Foundation has been fortunate to have many supporters on our journery to help fight cancer. We appreciate the support our community has given to us for more than 40 years. We could not have given Wilmot Cancer Center more than a million dollars for cancer research in those 40 years without this support. Fundraising isn’t what it used to be when we first started the foundation. Because of the important role small businesses have played in our fundraising, we wanted to give some recognition back. We have implemented the Edelman-Gardner Cancer Research Foundation Recognition and Appreciation Award. Our plan is to honor a business or organization in the community that has been supportive of us. In 2019, we recognized the Hilton Fire Department for all they have done in the past and continue to do for the foundation. Due to the limitations COVID placed on us, we skipped 2020. On December 6, 2021, we honored two local businesses in Hilton. We hare honored and proud to announce that the 2020 and 2021 Recognition Award goes to Cindy Lutwiller at Shear Emotion Hair Salon and Tom and Annamaria Bonn at the Arlington Restaurant. Both businesses have continued to support us throughout this pandemic. They care about the people in their community and have chosen to give back by supporting cancer research. As a way of saying thanks, please stop in and stay for dinner at the restaurant or a pampering beauty treatment at the salon. Tell them, “Thank you for giving back to the community.” The Arlington Restaurant is located at 3 Main Street, Hilton, and Shear Emotion & Caribbean Sun Tanning is located at 1026 Hilton-Parma Corners Road, Hilton. Sue Corey, Secretary Edelman-Gardner Cancer Research Foundation

In his thank you to the residents of Clarkson (Westside News, November 7, 2021), Sheldon Meyers expressed his pride in making democracy work in Clarkson by being a candidate and making the Republicans spend money. If you turn over the ballot that we voted on in Clarkson, there were five NYS propositions to vote on. Three of these propositions (1, 3, and 4) were Democratic contrived amendments to the NYS Constitution which would bias future elections toward Democrats. Fortunately, the people of NYS saw through this ruse and defeated all three propositions. These propositions were not in the interest of making democracy work. This was after the one-party (Democratic) government in Albany targeted the Working Families (WF) Party with legislation that raised the minimum number of votes required of a party in Presidential and Gubernatorial elections for the party to have a line on the ballot. The WF Party has become a force in New York City, wins elections there, and was the target of these changes. The result was the Independence, Libertarian, Green, and other parties were eliminated from this year’s ballot. The irony is the WF Party received enough votes to remain on the ballot. Again an action not in the interest of making democracy work. On November 2, 2021, democracy did work in Clarkson, and the residents spoke with conviction. The Clarkson Democrat candidates were only able to turn out 32% of their registered base (44% in 2019). All the contested Clarkson Republican candidates beat their Democratic opponents by more than doubling their opponent’s vote count. Defeated Democratic Nassau County (the first county east of NYC on Long Island) Executive Laura Curran spoke of a blood bath for Democrats in 2022. I think we saw a precursor to this in 2021 in Clarkson. Harold Mundy Clarkson
