Opening Welcome

Hi All, It is the half term holiday! Well done everyone on all of hard work so far! We are immensely proud of all your efforts, engagement and co-operation this term. You have all definitely earned this break and we are looking forward to seeing you again for the next half of term. In the mean time here are all your WLC Updates.

Covid Updates

In line with the new government announced guidelines it is no longer a requirement to wear masks around the college. We still strongly advise students to test twice a week. You can pick up lateral flow tests from the Student Services Office. Please ensure you only take one box – as there are 7 tests in there which would last 3 weeks.

In the meantime please protect yourself and the community, get vaccinated! All students are now eligible to receive their Covid Vaccination, please use the link below to get yours booked in! Remember, some professions such as nursing and care work are moving towards compulsory vaccinations to work in their industry, so getting vaccinated will help stop the virus and keep those job options open to you NHS Covid Vaccination Booking You can also attend the following walk in centres local to your College site: Hammersmith Campus Ealing Campus Southall Campus Park Royal Campus


Safeguarding

Safeguarding is of utmost importance to us and we are focused on ensuring we do the best to protect all our learners as best we can. If you ever have any concerns about yourself, or any other student you can always pop into Student Services. We can offer support with a wide range of problems and if we can’t we will find someone who can. Email safeguarding@wlc.ac.uk or fill in the student services referral form.


Pastoral & Wellbeing

Physical activity has been scientifically proven to help mental health. Some of the ways in which it can do this is as follows: 1.

Careers & Employability - Updates Tutorial Update This term has been jam packed with Tutorial events and workshops to help support your Personal Development. You have covered a wide range of topics including British Values, Sexual Harassment and Race Equality. Next term our Tutorial focuses will be on; Criminal Exploitation, Healthy Lifestyles, Careers and Raising Aspirations, Finances and Money Management and Prevent.

Careers Update We have some updated latest vacancies advertised on our Careers and Employability Website. We have vacancies available with incredible employers such as NHS, British Airways, Wagamama plus many more. You can find our job vacancies here, and if you are looking for apprenticeships you can find those here.

Careers & Employability – What’s on?

What's it all about? The Big Writing Challenge is a creative writing competition empowering young people to transform their imagination into words. The competition introduces students to professionals from the publishing industry including writers, agents and publishers. The competition is open to all Year 12 / first year Level 3 BTEC students aged 16-18. If you want to participate in this fantastic competition please email j.wiredu@wlc.ac.uk

Opportunities for young Entrepreneurs Blueprint for All, a charitable organisation is excited to announce the launch of its Building Inclusive Futures: Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme which launches in March 2022. The purpose of this programme is to: 1. Enable ethnically diverse young people (aged 16-25) to overcome practical barriers 2. Help them secure valuable resources 3. Provide support in starting their own business 4. Encourage an entrepreneurial mindset that will help young people thrive in both digital and real-world contexts To find out more and to Apply for the programme please here Application deadline is Monday 21st February 2022.

Careers & Employability - Enrichment LGBTQ+ History Month is a month-long annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual trans, and nonbinary history, including the history of LGBTQ+ rights and related civil rights movements. In the United Kingdom it is celebrated in February each year, to coincide with the 2003 abolition of Section 28- What is section 28. LGBTQ+ History Month was initiated in the UK by Schools Out UK and first took place in February 2005. The event is intended to raise awareness of, and combat prejudice against, LGBTQ+ people and history.Changes in the UK in the last 10years. Here at West London College we support the LGBTQ+ community and strongly believe in diversity and equality for all. LGBTQ+ History Month 2022. For more information please visit www.theproudtrust.org Safer Internet Day is celebrated annually in February, to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. The aim was to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. Safer Internet Day 2022 was on 8th February and was celebrated with the theme ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’. From gaming and chat, to streaming and video, young people are shaping the interactive entertainment spaces they are a part of. Safer Internet Day 2022 celebrates young people’s role in creating a safer internet, whether that is whilst gaming and creating content, or interacting with their friends and peers. Bursary Update

It’s not too late to apply!! For those of you who may have started a new course recently or those of you who have not yet applied. Maybe you had a change in personal circumstances and now need some additional help with the costs associated with your college courses. Please check out the Student Finance and Bursary page under Student Services on the Student Portal for eligibility criteria and further information on bursary. Click here The next deadline date to get applications approved in order to receive Spring Term Bursary Award is Friday 1st April 2022. For those of you who are currently receiving the bursary please take note that the next bursary travel award will be paid the week commencing the 21st of February 2022. For further information regarding support available please speak to a member of the Student Services team.
