transfer. All four will get a chance to carry the ball, especially early in the season when it’s still so hot and humid. Cody Rule actually was the Admirals’ third-leading rusher last season, with 28 carries for 160 yards. He takes over at quarterback in Farragut’s spread option, replacing Reese Browning. “He has done a remarkable job of trying to understand our offense, do the right things,” Courtney said. Rule is a dual-threat QB, and while he doesn’t have the live arm that Browning possessed, the junior has been solid on short and intermediate routes while continuing to improve his ability to throw the deep ball. Courtney expects to substitute liberally on defense, where the Admirals are sticking with their 3-3 stack scheme. Don’t be surprised if

backer spots. Jacob Johnson returns at free safety, and is the team’s top returning tackler with 48 total stops. Brooks Harper enters his

third year as a starting linebacker and anchors that group; he made 36 stops with two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery though he had to sit out a couple of games. Fellow senior Robbie Leonard also returns at linebacker. Farragut made a couple of position moves to give the defense more speed. Thomas Jackson, last year’s starting middle linebacker, now plays defensive end. Harper has replaced Jackson as the man in the middle at linebacker. Freeman will get time at end as well. Madison Brown is listed as an end but he’ll also play some linebacker depending on the situation. Perez returns to man the Admirals’ left cornerback spot. The Final Verdict: Farragut went 82 last season and still had to settle for the fifth seed in the East side of the 6A playoff bracket. With Maryville, Catholic, Bearden and the three tough non-conference foes lying in wait, the Admirals will be challenged to match that record—much less improve upon it. By John Moorehouse
