against the environment 2 out of 3 times.

he voted

D

ino Rossi was in the state Senate from 1997 to 2003. The 32% lifetime score is based on the Senate votes that were scored in the Washington

Conservation Voters Scorecards published during those years. Dino Rossi’s overall standards for the environment are too low. The Bill: SSB 5053 Regarding: Prohibits agencies from adopting rules that exceed federal standards without legislative authority When: March 18, 2003

D

ino Rossi voted for the least amount of environmental protection for Washington. He voted to prohibit state agencies from adopting standards

stricter than the federal minimum, without specific legislative approval, effectively allowing George W. Bush – the worst environmental President of our time – to set the standards for environmental protection in our state.

3

Dino voted to eliminate key regulations to manage growth. The Bill: SB 5282 Regarding: Eliminating growth management hearings boards When: March 13, 2003

D

ino Rossi voted to make Washington’s growth management regulations unenforceable – removing the teeth that hold developers to

the law. This would have opened the door to our farmlands and communities being paved over for strip malls and parking lots while driving local farms out of business.

4

Dino voted to lower our investment in important and innovative efforts to reduce congestion and pollution. The Bill: SB 5340 Regarding: Modifying the commute trip reduction program When: March 19, 2003

D

ino Rossi voted to clog our roadways with more vehicles and increase global warming pollution rather than actually addressing congestion issues.

He would have effectively eliminated the very successful commute trip reduction program as a tool in the fight against congestion.

D

ino Rossi consistently voted against protecting our forests,

clean water and the health of our communities. He made it a habit to vote against our environment. Dino Rossi received two “Good Green Deeds during his time in Olympia. On the campaign trail, he cites these as evidence of his leadership.

Let us set the record straight: Occasional acts of greenness do not make Rossi an environmental leader. We cannot count on someone who votes 2 out of 3 times against the environment to protect the future of our state.

T

he issues that we face, like cleaning up toxins in our communities, saving Puget Sound and tackling global warming, demand consistent

and strong environmental leadership. Luckily for us here in Washington, we already have that leader. If you care about the environment, Chris Gregoire (Dem) is the only choice for Governor. She has shown true leadership on protecting the health of our communities and preserving the beauty of our state. Governor Gregoire is a true environmental champion and is driving change throughout the country by: PSaving Puget Sound PAggressively addressing global warming PLeading the nation in green buildings PInvesting in a strong new green economy PProviding leadership for the toughest law against toxic toys and the most innovative program to recycle electronic waste in the nation
