ABOUT THE COMPOSER

Chloe Hébert is a senior saxophonist and composer studying at West Chester University. Currently known best for her composition, writing, instrumental teaching, performances, and service, she is largely involved in her community and seeks to further the expansion of the gospel in CHRIST JESUS through the arts. Chloe began her musical journey around the age of 7 when she wrote her first song "Style". As she grew and developed, she gravitated towards woodwinds and various musical studies. Once entering high school, Chloe was very invested in her school's jazz band and began studying composition, improvisation, and solo writing.

Intrigued specifically by composition, she decided to further her studies at West Chester University. In the spring of her freshman year, Chloe sought out a degree in music composition and discovered jazz standards. Falling in love with the sounds, harmonic progressions, and approach of improvisation, the addition of the jazz studies minor was paired with her compositional pursuits. Entering her sophomore year, Chloe wrote for the Dali Quartet. Having never known, worked with, or written for a professional string ensemble, she fell in love with orchestral writing, and specifically focuses on string quartet, quintet, and orchestra writing. Although her classical and orchestral writing began only when she entered college, she has spent the past year studying books, sitting in on practices, and learning upright bass to better grasp the concepts of strings and their capabilities.

Ranging from classical, to improvisational, to gospel music, Chloe's sincere interest in diversity is a major part of what propels her writing. Since entering college, she has been studying and writing in classical, orchestral, contemporary production, improvisation, and songwriting areas of the music industry. She is incredibly thankful for where she is today and is eager to see where she will be tomorrow.

All to the Glory of GOD!

BIBLICAL TEXT AND

IS YOUR ALL ON THE ALTAR?

Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8:22-25

Wind and Wave Obey Jesus Mark 4:35-41 (NKJV)

35| On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side."

36| Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.

37| And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.

38| But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"

39| Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

40| But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?"

41| And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"

LouéJESUS,ChloeHébert(2023)

Praise FATHER GOD in Heaven above! May all the glory be to HIM, WHO gifted us salvation through HIS ONE and only SON! This piece is a praise to JESUS our LORD, SAVIOR, and GOD for choosing to make the greatest sacrifice this world has ever known.

IsYourAllOnTheAltar?,ChloeHébert(2023)

Is Your All On The Altar? (IYAOTA) came to be by the HOLY SPIRIT. This work was inspired by the Bible: Wind and Wave Obey JESUS (New Testament). Shortly before bed one night, this new adventure began with the bassline and worked up the voices. As the composition grew in layers, the rhythms gave the piece motion. Feeling the uncertainty in the rhythms, a focus on the inspiration for the piece came into play. This work hopes to glorify the LORD GOD and aid in others receiving JESUS CHRIST as their personal SAVIOR. It also aims to educate and encourage a shift from carrying our anxieties/worries and surrendering them to HIM.

The text painting and other essential characteristics hope to excite listeners to read, review, and reflect on the scripture. Below is a breakdown of the key characteristics and contributions to the piece:

Symbolism, Visuals, and References List:

Ship: Our firm (imperfect) faith

Lead Voice: Peter

Viola thumps: Peter's heartbeat

Chorus section: The apostles singing praises to GOD

Waves: Water & (in)consistency with faith

Opening bass solo: Night time environment/darkness (seeking GOD as our light)

Viola eighths: Tension, uneasiness, & excitement for this thrilling adventure/violent seas

Violin ornamentation: Crying, singing aloud praises to GOD

Ending: JESUS comes up and rebukes the wind and waves; all is calm & peaceful

[ Taking the chorus apart: lead violin, Peter || violoncello, the Apostles accompanying Peter ]

In addition, this piece seeks to challenge the listener’s own approach and perspectives-reassuring their faith and commitment to the LORD. The biblical text can be found under the Biblical Text background section of the program. To the Glory of GOD!

Passion,ChloeHébert(2024)

Passion is a worship tune for String Quartet praising GOD for partnership. This quartet examines the inner passions and exchanges of love through the couple-as it is a gift from GOD. This piece is paired with the book Song Solomon. I highly encourage you read to learn about biblical passion, romance, and love between a husband and wife! Praise GOD for being the CREATOR of all things! To the Glory of GOD!

“My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

To the Glory of GOD!

QuatuoràCordesenlaMajeur,ChloeHébert(2023)

Quatuor à Cordes en la Majeur (QACLM) is an instrumental praise in A Major dedicated to the Almighty LORD GOD for HIS Perfection, Presence, and Grace. May this encourage a vibrant worship and intimacy with the FATHER. Praise be to our GOD and FATHER: the LORD of hosts. To the Glory of GOD! . . .

broken,ChloeHébert(2024)

broken is the ultimate surrender one goes through as they become a new creation in CHRIST. Although this transformation is breathtakingly beautiful, there is a pain-aching longing for saying goodbye to parts of your prior self and a desire to embrace the unknown new. As portrayed by the String Orchestra, there is a great yearning for GOD. Indeed, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. This piece is dedicated to the LORD, WHO reigns above all and WHOSE compassions fail not, they are new every morning. Great is HIS faithfulness and abundant Love. Peace be with you! To the Glory of GOD!

Visible,ChloeHébert(2024)

Visible is a composition for String Orchestra depicting the biblical occurrence of the prophet Samuel as he searches for the king of Israel. As commanded by the LORD, Samuel searches out a man named Jesse and requests to speak with his sons. As he approached the men, the LORD spoke:

“But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at HIS appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance but the LORD looks at the heart.’” ~ 1 Samuel 16:7

As Samuel met the men, he could not find the one who GOD requested. He met strong, tall, and handsome men but knew they were not the desired man. Finally, Samuel met the last of Jesse’s sons. A tender of sheep named David. Samuel rejoiced and anointed him king of Israel!

GOD does not look at the outward appearance; HE looks inward at the heart. Let this serve as encouragement to you that GOD sees your heart-not your outward appearance. The music is also a depiction of my life, similar to David’s experience. Consider it a parallel of the two journeys GOD has Sovereign leadership on. To the Glory of GOD!

My Parents

Oh, what a blessing it is to be your daughter! I thank GOD every day for how amazing and wonderful you both are. Your love for GOD, each other, and our community is inspiring and beautiful. You have taught me many core values, wisdom, and knowledge, but to see two GOD-fearing people me teaching me about the importance of unity and sacrificial love has been life changing. I thank you for emphasizing the importance of unity with GOD, our church, our workplace, school-the ability and encouragement of a team is essential to growing in life. I thank you for teaching me the importance of a devotion to HIM first and our famille second. Whether it’s been through Bible studies, famille prayer, service, or encouragement-your conduct proves your commitment to the LORD. I now understand and appreciate the value of hard work, unity, and sacrificial love. You sacrificially love so well. One can see it through the numerous hours you work to provide food on our table, a roof over our heads, and a little Loaf to come back to (we love you, Elijah) Two truly are better than one, and this much is certain (Ecc. 4:9)

I extend deep gratitude towards your time, labors, efforts, and patience! Thank you for allowing me to have 19,000 instruments in your basement, practicing for hours, driving me to rehearsals, listening to our pieces, and for always showing up at my concerts and events. To look out amongst the crowd and see the two people I cherish and value so intimately is a beautiful reminder of how loved and blessed I am to have you two in my life. I thank you always for everything you do, but most importantly, I thank you for being my dad and my mum. Merci pour tout! Je t’aime.

Thank you so greatly for your support over the years. As I have grown, I have learned to appreciate famille in a beautifully different light. I am thankful for your love towards me and my parents. We are blessed to have you all in our lives. You brighten our world in beautiful ways! I continue to pray that you will come to know the Love of GOD if you do not already. I can promise you, as someone who didn’t always know JESUS life is so peaceful, loving, and joyful with HIM. I pray that same love and kindness enter your hearts too, as it is the best feeling in the entire world! I appreciate your respects for knowing why I am so vocal about my LORD. I hope you live joyful and peaceful lives! Love you all! And a special shoutout to Pepere and Memere, who I am so grateful to still have in my life. I am a proud granddaughter of a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel. Thank you, Pepere, for your service to our country and your love towards our famille.
