Written requirements for the added credit must integrate the learning of the content of the course with the learning of the service experience and must involve women’s issues. A written plan of instruction must be submitted by the students and professor at the beginning of the semester to the Director of Women’s Studies for approval. The number of the added credit will match the level of the course. WST 295-495. Special Topics in Women’s Studies 3 credits This course is designed to allow special topics courses in the area of women’s studies beyond those courses listed above. Courses may be cross-listed with other department’s offerings. This course may be repeated for credit with permission of the Director of Women’s Studies. LIFE SKILLS Life Skills Program Richard M. Shepas, M.Ed., Athletic Director Students are permitted to take a maximum of two credits applicable towards the 124 credit graduation requirement; students not under the 1988-89 and subsequent catalogs are permitted to enroll for a maximum of two credits toward their graduation requirements. Students are not permitted to take the same course, including varsity sports, more than once for credit. LIFE SKILLS COURSE OFFERINGS LSK 101. Wellness 1 credit Incorporates reading and discussions about healthy sleep and eating habits and effective coping with stressors. It meets the general education requirement when taken in conjunction with any of the following Life Skills courses: LSK 105, 107, 115, 116, 117, 119, 125, 126, 128, 129, 135 and special topic offerings such as dance, yoga, and pilates. LSK 105. Aerobics Lab A structured program of aerobic activities in exercise or dance. (Offered when interest is expressed and departmental resources permit.) LSK 116. Nautilus Training Lab Weight training and conditioning utilizing nautilus machines and the “nautilus principle.” Instruction to promote better fitness through weight training activity. LSK 117. Racquetball Lab Instruction in the basic rules and skills of racquetball such as kill shots, ceiling shots, power serves, lob serves and z-serves. Instruction in doubles and singles play so that one can become fit and a competent participant. Fall LSK 119. Tennis Lab Course designed to develop basic knowledge of rules, scoring and strategies in playing both doubles and singles matches. Emphasis on executing the ground strokes, the service, the volley, lob and smash shots. Fall LSK 125. Varsity Sports 1 credit Participation in one of the varsity sports, including those for men: baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and wrestling: and those for women: basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball. LSK 126. Volleyball Lab Instruction in the basic fundamentals of volleyball as a recreational and competitive activity. Skills emphasized include serving, setting, digging, and spiking. LSK 128. Jogging Lab A course designed to provide lifetime aerobic activity with emphasis on distance running as a means for improved cardiovascular conditioning. LSK 129. Basic Self Defense Lab A course designed to provide a basic knowledge needed for the average untrained person to defend himself/herself against various attacks. The course will cover maneuvers for the quickest, easiest, and most effective ways to free oneself from an attacker, with highest concern for personal safety. One will also learn how to prevent many of the possible situations which would call for defensive schemes. Spring LSK 135. Basketball Lab
