The Wauconda Park District Board of Commissioners will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in the Board Room at 7:00 pm at the Community Center.

INTEGRITY - TEAMWORK - SERVICE - COMMITMENT Dear Residents, I hope you and your family are doing well. It is hard to believe that the month of November is upon us and before we know it, it will be Thanksgiving. I usually like to take a moment to reflect during that holiday to remember just how important family and friends are. It is no different here at our Park District. There are many people we are thankful for each and every year. Thank you to all our volunteers who give freely of their time and support to make our programs and events a success. Without their enthusiasm and commitment we could not do what we do. They are individuals who are not looking to be recognized but rather just want to give back to their community. Thank you to all our sponsors whose financial support allows us to continue to put forth great community events for our residents to enjoy. Your financial commitment to our District and our community should be applauded. Thank you to our staff who are dedicated and committed, day in and day out to bring to our community the best recreational experiences possible. We couldn’t do it without your efforts. But most of all, I would like to thank all of our residents who continue to support our District. Our staff is honored to work for all of you. Wauconda is a community which we can all be proud of. By continuing to work together we will achieve success and make Wauconda the best place to live, work and play. Please take time to review the wide selections of programs and special events offered this winter/ spring. I am sure you will find something of interest to you. Remember to visit our website at www. waucondaparks.com for event happenings throughout the year. Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season. May it be filled with much happiness and good health. In Play, Nancy M. Burton Director of Parks & Recreation

t’s never too early to start thinking about summer fun! We already have a fun-filled summer planned for your children. Camp Wauconda offers a full-time and part-time format with age-appropriate activities like arts and crafts, swimming, games, parties, field trips once a week, theme days, entertainers, and much more! Camp Wauconda is for children entering grades 1-8 in Fall 2012.

Camp Format

Camp Wauconda is an active day camp that is planned by our Camp Coordinator, Camp Counselors, Recreation Staff, and Campers themselves. Our staff to camper ratio is 1:10 for 1st-4th grade and 1:15 for 5th-8th grade. Kids are grouped by grade so they are interacting with kids their own age most of the time. Each session is two weeks long and a schedule of activities is distributed to each group. A new theme each week is incorporated into the activities, projects, and games that have been planned. There are also two trips scheduled per session and one special event, which are tied into the theme.

Registration Information

A $20 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration along with an additional $20 non-refundable deposit for each session your child will attend. Dates may change due to Wauconda School District #118 schedule.

Early Bird/Stay and Play

If your child is enrolled in Camp Wauconda, then they can have even more fun by participating in this program. It’s perfect for working parents or die-hard campers!

Our preschool program is intended to help stimulate your child’s social, emotional, and creative development. Our program emphasizes socialization and learning through play. Classroom activities encourage problem solving, creativity, self-expression, as well as academics. This enables children to explore in a room filled with warmth, affection, and respect for others. It is the preschool environment where children learn to respect the authority of adults other than their parents. Friendship, sharing, and cooperation are modeled and practiced on a daily basis. The children participate in all types of learning including art, music, creative play, cooking, poetry, and science. Through carpet time, direct instruction, hands-on learning and free-time activities, the children are exposed to a curriculum that enhances their creativity and also provides a positive atmosphere for learning. Our 2-year old program is designed to give your child an early introduction to our traditional preschool program. Classes will last one and a half hours per day with age appropriate activities planned each session.

Eligibility

Children must be the proper age as of September 1st (November 1st for 5-year) and must be toilet trained if enrolled in the 3, 4, or 5 year-old program. Dance Descriptions

Dance with Me (2.5-3 years with parent) Our youngest ballet class introduces students and a parent to the magical world of ballet. We use a variety of props to stimulate the students’ imagination and spark their creativity when dancing. The main goals at this level are learning to listen to the teacher, following directions, and cooperating and sharing with other dancers. This class will not participate in the recital.

Creative Dance (3-4 years) This class introduces students to ballet technique, while encouraging their creativity and imagination. We emphasize exploring the student’s natural passion for melody, rhythm and movement, as well as listening to the music. “Free dance” time is important to the students at this level, as it allows them to express themselves and show their love of movement. Students’ work on following directions, cooperating with others, developing spatial orientation, and using basic counting skills. Pre Ballet I (4-5 years) and II (5-6 years) Students begin the transition from fairy-tale excitement to the self-awareness and pride of dancing ballet. Still emphasizing the use of imagery and imagination, the students develop basic dance coordination and body alignment. Students learn ballet terminology, how to identify correct and incorrect movements, and begin learning how to selfcorrect themselves while dancing. Pre Jazz (5-6 years) This class is for first time jazz students who are excited to “move to the music” and show off their natural flair for dance. The main goals include learning class format, listening to their teacher, and cooperating with other students. The main focus at this first level is listening to the music, finding the rhythm, building basic jazz technique and vocabulary, and using power and energy in their movements. Adult Ballet, Modern, and Tap (14+ years) Whether you are an adult new to dance, returning to dance, or looking to maintain your chosen craft join us for our adult classes.

Monster Jam, Rosemont, IL

Family

Family The days are counting down until Monster Jams rolls into the Allstate Arena for an afternoon of heart pounding excitement. You won’t want to miss a second as the trucks start clashing. The monster trucks will face off in two different competitions - side by side racing and freestyle. Side-by-side racing is traditional bracket racing, where the first truck to cross the finish line with the least number of penalties is the winner. The freestyle competition allows drivers a limited amount of time to show off their skills as they drive the huge trucks over cars, and preform stunts, and tricks. Come watch as they have a wheelie competition where the goal is to hit a ramp and get big air while remaining perpendicular to the ground. So join these high-horsepower beasts, Wolverine, Batman, and Grave Digger as they appear to dance gracefully across the track. This is sure to be an afternoon you won’t want to miss.
