COME OUT WITH PRIDE 2023

HAPPY PRIDE, ORLANDO DEAR FRIENDS

O

n behalf of the board of directors, I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2023 Come Out With Pride Festival and Parade – Central Florida’s largest and most vibrant LGBTQIA+ celebration! In these uncertain times, your presence here is a testament to the enduring spirit of our community, and your unwavering commitment to the values of love, equality, found family and queer joy. As we gather at Lake Eola on October 21, 2023, it is impossible to ignore the challenging political environment we now face. We find ourselves in a state where hateful anti-LGBTQIA+ sentiments have gained prominence and influence, making our struggle for equal

rights and acceptance all the more critical – especially among our trans community and others who have faced unjust political attacks. Remember that it is precisely in the face of adversity that our unity shines most brightly. In fact, it is

the inspiration for our 2023 theme, “Stronger Together.” Come Out With Pride has always strived to be a place where our diverse voices can rise above the cacophony of discrimination, prejudice and hate. Through gathering as a community, we send a powerful message that love and acceptance will always triumph over hate. This year, we are especially grateful for the unwavering support of our true allies and dedicated sponsors who, in the face of adversity, have chosen to stand by our side. Their allyship, along with the support of our community and indelible efforts of our volunteers, provide the foundation upon which we build this incredible festival year after year.

While it may be cliché to say, it’s no less true that Pride

ome Out With Pride, Orlando! I am overjoyed to celebrate Pride, again, with you this year. It is my absolute pleasure to invite each and every one of you in our community and our allies to join our festivities. The Board of Directors and I recognize the sanctity of our space and how critical it is for us to come together and gather. We want you to enjoy Pride created by us and for us, and know we are “Stronger Together,” which is our 2023 theme. Feel free to be your authentic self and love who you love. In June of 1969, the LGBTQIA+ movement was conceived from the Stonewall riots. This historic revolt was led by brave black and brown trans women, giving birth to Pride and forever impacting all our lives. With

is more than just a celebration. It is rooted in protest and demonstration. It is a declaration that we are proud of who we are – unbound by hatred or shame – and that we will continue to fight for a world where everyone can live their truth without fear or prejudice. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey and for supporting Come Out With Pride. Together, we are building a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow. Happy Pride, Orlando!

In producing this event,

WELCOME ALL TO PRIDE

During these challenging times, we must remember we are not alone and part of a much larger, loving community. We will not allow harmful and hateful politicians or legislation to hold us down, define, or erase us.

we honor those who have paved the way for our rights. The volunteers you see throughout our festival represent the current generation of community leaders and changemakers. Their remarkable yearround contributions of time, talent and leadership cannot be overstated, and we are immensely grateful for the impact they are making on our world. Please reward their efforts with a smile, a high five or a word of thanks when you see them.

the progression of the LGBTQIA+ movement, Pride has evolved. This year, celebrate as our authentic selves, pay tribute to our trailblazers, remember those we’ve lost and will never forget, and strive to support our most vulnerable and disenfranchised. We know our LGBTQIA+ community is expansive, including various members who live in assorted intersections. Despite the differences in our life’s paths and journeys, we are stronger together than apart. As one of the largest Prides in the

Southeast, we anticipate this year’s celebration to be spectacular, bigger and even better than last year. Did you know Come Out With Pride is a small nonprofit with a tiny but mighty team composed of a Board of Directors, an Executive Director, and incredible volunteers? Please consider supporting our mission and vision by joining our volunteer team or donating. We are dedicated to keeping Pride free and accessible to all, but we need your help! Remember - this is your Pride and I look forward to seeing you on Oct. 21!

It will take all of us working together to address the stigmas and disparities that fuel the HIV epidemic. By working hand in hand with the community, we are working to break down the barriers that stand in the way of people feeling accepted, seeking the care they need, and being their true selves. Together we are helping correct common misperceptions and silencing the stigmas around HIV. We are spreading the word through local community events and educational programs such as Healthysexual® and Stop the Virus. Together we are lifting each other up until HIV is no more. COME OUT WITH PRIDE 2023

October 1, 2023

As Mayor of the City of Orlando, I am proud to help welcome you to the Come Out With Pride Festival and Parade. Each year, this is one of my favorite events because it provides an incredible opportunity to celebrate and support our city’s LGBTQ+ community and our commitment to inclusion. Come Out With Pride is a showcase of Orlando’s unity and the diversity that makes The City Beautiful a more vibrant place. It’s a lively, fun and diverse event with people from all different backgrounds coming together as one in downtown Orlando and at our Lake Eola Park. The event is also a showcase of our community’s collective values. Orlando is and will always be a city that encourages all residents and visitors to be their authentic selves. In our city we lead with love and compassion and will never stop working to ensure Orlando is welcoming and equitable for each person who calls our community home or travels here. Some might think differently, I but believe that what our community values can never be taken away. This is why Come Out With Pride is so important. It shows the rest of the state, country and world the real Orlando: a place where LGBTQ+ residents and visitors are loved, respected and seen and heard.

Please join me in thanking the Come Out With Pride staff, executive committee, board members, volunteers and sponsors. They work year-round to organize this event and make it impactful. I hope that you have a wonderful time at this year’s Come Out With Pride festivities. Sincerely,

Buddy Dyer Mayor ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

M

ike Rogier and John Paonessa have owned Orlando's Hamburger Mary’s since its inception in 2008. Their motto is “we are an open-air bar and grille for open-minded people.” The downtown Orlando eatery and safe space came under fire this year, as did all venues in the state that are home to drag performers, over the passing of a Florida law that came to be called “the anti-drag law,” which looked to put restrictions on who could see drag shows in The Sunshine State.

Believing this law had nothing to do with “protecting children” and everything to do with continuing to oppress the LGBTQ+ community, Mike and John filed a lawsuit against the state. Taking on their case to fight for the rights of drag performers was
