Concrete experts make an impact As a relatively new business in Auckland’s construction scene Concrete Logistics Ltd is making a big impact. The company has been in operation for just over two years but has already completed a number of high-profile large scale projects including Waterview Connection (Australasia’s largest construction project currently), Sugartree Apartments, Stonefields’ Illicia and Altera apartment complexes, Ameti Bridgedeck, Auckland University Science Faculty and Fonterra headquarters in Auckland city. Concrete Logistics also completed works for Marsden Point Oil Refinery, which was recorded as the largest daily concrete pour in New Zealand. Concrete Logistics director Ray Charman has been involved in the construction industry for well over 20 years working in senior roles for large construction companies. His experience has led to the company philosophy to work as part of the client’s overall team on projects rather than just coming in and completing its part of the job. “We problem shoot and aim to find methodologies, which could potentially save the client money,” says Ray. “We assist our clients to manage risk and ensure the project finishes up the way it’s supposed to in terms of budget and actual construction requirements.” As an example, on a recent project for Summit Construction, Concrete Logistics pumped concrete for the Hopetoun Apartments utilising a 52-metre boom and running a line off this to reach the highest levels of the building. On certain projects the company has also recommended the use of concrete skips rather than hiring a pump, if the site already has a crane, which can be utilised, potentially saving the client up to 10-15%, says Ray. Concrete Logistics offers a wide range of concrete services including commercial, residential and civil concrete solutions through out the wider Auckland region and beyond. Coordination between the client and other trades working on the site is a key component of every project, says Ray.

It’s critical to make sure the site is a viable working site for both ourselves and others.” Part of this is managing the arrival of materials to site in a timely manner. This can be challenging when projects encounter unexpected delays, as the busy Auckland market means concrete often has to be ordered up to a week in advance.

“We have to be able to manage any deviations in the programme plan. This boils down to communication with the client again so that we know immediately of any changes and can plan accordingly. We need to be flexible and our relationships with our suppliers, who we have used for a long time, are key so we can manipulate and adjust timings as needed.” Ray says that the Concrete Logistics team is committed to ensuring all clients receive the best

project result possible regardless of whether it’s a major airport runway, Auckland stadium or a private residential driveway. “For us providing a quality finished product, client satisfaction, on time performance and a commitment to workplace safety are an essential parts of our company’s core philosophy. “We are solution focussed and no matter what the job dedicated to providing each and every client the best result possible.”
