Enrichment Options We’re developing well-rounded students Our aim is to prepare you for your next steps from the moment you join our College. We offer a wide variety of enrichment opportunities as part of the Thursday afternoon timetabled programme in which you will choose to take one enrichment subject in Year 12. Choose from Community Sports Leadership Award (CSLA), Cooking for College, Core Sport, Debating, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Enterprise and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Our enrichment programme helps ensure that our students leave Warlingham as well-rounded individuals who are well-prepared for their next steps into an apprenticeship, further education or the world of work.

I have enjoyed taking Cooking for College as I have been able to learn to make a variety of recipes both sweet and savoury using a range of methods, which can be easily made even if you can’t bake or cook.

Cliona Wall

Community Sports Leadership Award (CSLA) Join our successful sports leadership programme and develop and refine your leadership skills through work in the local community. You will work in local primary schools to help coach young children in a whole host of sports and activities, from Reception through to Year 6, looking at the needs of the whole community.

Cooking for College Whatever your ability and knowledge of food to date, learn to cook a range of foods using a wide variety of skills and methods. We discuss ingredients, adapting recipes to suit individual needs, including cost, student accommodation facilities, storage and mass production.

Core Sport Enjoy participating in physical activity to continue a healthy, active lifestyle and switch off from the pressures of everyday life. You will collaborate and decide with your peers which activities you would like to participate in - from working out to basketball, football, trampolining and swimming - and get the opportunity to compete against other Colleges.

Debating If you find yourself having opinions and putting your ideas across about moral, social and political questions, such as, “Was Brexit a good idea?” or “Should Euthanasia be legalised?”, then this is the perfect enrichment choice for you. Over the year, we will spend time considering how to structure a debate before choosing a range of topics to discuss.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Stand out from the crowd by embarking on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, a personalised development programme that covers five areas: volunteering, physical, skills, expedition and residential. Open to everyone, regardless of whether you have had previous involvement in the DofE scheme, you will need to undertake activities in your own time as well as during enrichment time. You will also spend time on expedition in the beautiful Lake District.

This option helps you to work in teams, solve problems, manage your time and budgets and do something under your own control. Our Enterprise team this year sold personalised water bottles for Water Aid.

Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) The EPQ is an extra qualification, worth UCAS points equivalent to half an A Level. It is designed to take you beyond your A Level studies as you choose topics for investigation which you are not already studying.

Enterprise Learn to set up and run a Social Enterprise which is a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation that operates to raise money for charity.

The EPQ is suitable for students who can work independently, set deadlines and manage their time and workload effectively.

I chose to do an EPQ as it gave me the opportunity to be more of an independent learner. I do my own research and write a dissertation. For some universities, it can even lower entry requirements. Warlingham offers a range of subject specific supervisors, which can really help support you throughout the project.
