Sky: A National Juried Exhibition March 9 – May 25, 2014 Sky is an exhibition juried by DeWitt Cheng, San Francisco-based writer and critic, and Elizabeth Ferrer, Director of Contemporary Art, BRIC in Brooklyn, NYC. From ancient mythology to surreal skyscapes, artists and philosophers have long meditated on the theme of sky. This exhibition asks artists to explore how the sky, both atmospheric and conceptual, can be represented in a diverse reach of media.
Opportunities for Students: School Gallery Tours and Art in a Suitcase Workshops This season, gallery tours for all Contra Costa County schools are FREE! Our talented volunteer Docents conduct group tours for children grades K-12, completing each visit with a hands-on art project. Tours are $85 for all other groups.
The Bedford also offers Art in a Suitcase, a special one-hour workshop presented in the classroom. This school year the Bedford introduced Color is Cool, a workshop that explores the elements and properties of color through hands-on art making. Art in a Suitcase Workshops are $85 per group. Mark Your Calendars: Upcoming Spring Events at the Bedford • The first Public Art Walking Tour of 2014 is Saturday, April 19. Take a Docentled walking tour of Walnut Creek’s wonderful public art collection. Tours are an hour long and meet in front of the Lesher Center at 11am. Tours are $5 and include a free pass to the Bedford. • Bg Craft Fest will return to the Bedford Gallery on May 4 – just in time for Mother’s Day! Craft Fest brings together the best of Bay Area crafters and artists and features handmade gifts ranging from jewelry to home goods.
