Choose your ideal glider spacing of between 6cm and 8cm and, as we make them to order, we will calculate the closest glider spacing to this figure to best fit your pole length (or if you prefer, ask for our Ripple Excel Calculator to do your own calculations).

Simply use it with your usual pocketed heading tape and metal hooks, or your standard buckram heading and pin hooks (stab stitches may be needed above the pin hook to keep the layers together).
We allow a small amount of excess for slack (between 4cm and 7cm depending on pole length), but we will tell you what it is when we calculate the best spacing for you (our Ripple Excel Calculator also gives this figure). We allow an even number of gliders for each curtain panel to ensure the return and leading edges fold back to the wall. As a rough guide, we recommend a fabric fullness of between 1.6 and 2.3 and a hook spacing on the fabric of between 10cm and 18cm, but this is at your discretion and will depend on various factors such as fabric weight and stiffness, lining, interlining and the look you want to achieve.
HOT TIP If making up with a pocketed tape, do not finish off the return edge of your curtain until you have attached the tape and put the hooks in the pockets, as adjustments may be required.

FAQs
What spacings are available between gliders? We offer a bespoke spacing service of anything between (or close to) 6cm and 8cm.
How do I calculate my glider spacing?
You don’t have to - we can do it for you. Tell us your ideal spacing of either 6cm, 7cm or 8cm, and your pole length, and we will calculate the nearest options for you. We will work out and suggest the precise spacing that works best for your curtain and, subject to your approval, confirm the number of gliders so you can make your curtains to the correct flat width. This method ensures the glider cord is used to its full extent when the curtains are pulled closed, creating an even ripple across the pole. Alternatively, ask for our simple to use Ripple Excel Calculator to very quickly do your own calculations.
How many gliders should I order?
We can advise you on the number of gliders once we have your pole length and preferred glider spacing (6cm, 7cm or 8cm), or if you prefer, ask for our Ripple Excel Calculator to quickly and easily do your own calculations.
How much fabric will I need?
It is a very flexible system, so the amount of fabric you use is at your discretion. However, we would recommend a fabric fullness of between 1.6 and 2.3, depending how far forward / backward you want each ‘ripple’ to project and how narrow the spacing is between gliders (i.e. the closer the spacing, the fuller the curtain). Once you have chosen your desired look, you can then work out precise fabric quantities.
Can I hand stitch my Ripple heading?
What about 'spring back'?
To prevent the leading edge of the curtain from creeping inwards when the curtain is stacked back, we can supply you with a weight that hangs discreetly behind the pleat from your lead hook.
What should I allow for return and leading edges?
Allow between 5cm and 7cm for the leading edge, and the bracket projection length for the return. Get your fitter to put a screw eye in the wall for the return to hook into, to hold the last ripple securely.
Does Walcot House supply tape?
No. You can simply use your usual pocketed heading tape and metal hooks, or your standard buckram heading and pin hooks from your usual workroom sundries supplier (stab stitches may be needed above the pin hook to keep layers together).
What slack do you allow on the cord? In our calculations, we allow the following slack (excess) on the glider cord for a pair of curtains: poles upto: 180cm 4cm per curtain 240cm 5cm per curtain 300cm 6cm per curtain 400cm 7cm per curtain For a single curtain on a pole, we will take the ‘per curtain’ figure above and add 50%. If you require a specific slack/excess, let us know and we can make to your measurements.
What spacing should I use for my hooks on the curtain?
This depends on how big you want each ‘ripple’ to be. As a rough guide, we recommend the following hook spacing on the fabric: 6cm glider spacings10cm-14cm 7cm glider spacings12cm-16cm 8cm glider spacings14cm-18cm (8cm recommended for interlined curtains)

The ripple heading from Walcot House is a series of gliders strung together on a narrow cord, which is hidden within the track of the pole to create a contemporary curtain heading. How do I attach my curtain?
Using your normal hooks (metal or brass is recommended rather than plastic), attach each hook into a consecutive glider. Once you have them all in place, dress your curtains by pulling the first pleat towards you, then make sure the next pleat is going away from you, and so on, thus creating a ripple pattern.
Is it available with cording? Yes. Corded poles with the Ripple come as standard without overlap arms to avoid a flat section of fabric in the middle (i.e. the leading edges butt up). Please specify if you would like overlap arms.
Please note that we recommend a 2 way cord pull on: poles over 3m with interlined • or heavy curtains poles over 4m for lined only • and lighter curtains.
Can it be used with heavy, interlined curtains?
Yes, within reason and provided the track is regularly lubricated with a silicone solution. Ensure all 3 layers of the curtain are attached with invisible stab stitching or hem stitch at the top of your curtain.
Can the curtains pool on the floor? Yes, this gives a less formal, luxurious feel.
Can I use it on anyone else’s tracked pole?
We do not recommend this as it is designed for use in our unique aluminium track, which we embed in a 50mm diameter wooden pole. We therefore cannot guarantee the functionality of it for use with any other pole or track.

Extendable standard bracket
This face fix bracket holds the pole securely in place with two grub screws. It is also used as a centre bracket for 50mm brushed bronze poles.
Extends to increase projection from 9cm to 10cm. Brushed bronze poles must be drilled and tapped in the required position to use this bracket. Passing rings will also pass over this bracket.

With standard, passing or pleating rings available, we offer a variety of hanging systems from the conventional to the unique. For use where a conventional curtain treatment is required we offer flat-section rings in every diameter and round section rings in 19mm. Passing rings are used in conjunction with passing brackets (usually on a widespan window). Their C shape enables them to glide over any number of passing brackets, allowing one pair of curtains or a single curtain to be pulled all the way across the window. Our unique pleating rings and hooks can be used to create a more bespoke look, with a variety of options to choose from, and can be used on plain or tracked poles.

Pleating rings | hooks Add detail or a splash of colour to your contemporary curtain heading with our pleating rings or hooks with unique snap rivets.
The beautifully engineered snap rivets simply push through the weave of the fabric, and the stem of the pleating ring or hook, and snap together to close. Enormously popular, our exclusive pleating system is not only simple to use but also extremely versatile. They can be used to create single or double pleats, flat panels and box or inverted pleats.
Using the pleating ring or hook Simply make your curtain as normal, using buckram and interlining if required. Mark out your pleats using pins. Measure down from the top edge of the curtain and put a pin where you plan to place the rivet. Fold your fabric to create the first pleat (between the first two pins) Sink your pleating ring/hook stem into the pleat. Ease the rivet prong through the weave of the fabric where you have placed your pins, taking care the rivet prong also goes through the chosen hole of the pleating ring/hook stem. Snap the two parts of the rivet together to complete your instant no sew pleat.
Please Note: As a guide, allow at least two times fullness for your fabric, and preferably two and a half to three, although this depends on personal preference and which pleating option you choose. If using buckram or very tight weave fabric you may need to use a bradawl to prepierce your curtain before applying the rivet heading.

Ring bracket | 50mm stainless steel pole connector
Extendable standard bracket
This face fix bracket holds the pole securely in place with two grub screws. It is also used as a centre bracket for 50mm stainless steel poles.
Extends to increase projection from 9cm to 10cm. Stainless steel poles must be drilled and tapped in the required position to use this bracket. Passing rings will also pass over this bracket.

These brackets secure a pole neatly to a 90° side wall. A pin hook can be attached to the eyelet to hold the curtain in place.
Used only when the pole is supplied in 2 pieces with 'spigot ends', which slot inside the connector to make a smooth join. It extends to increase projection from 9cm to 10cm as required.

Universal extra support arm
A double bracket which is only used when the front 50mm pole is supplied in two pieces with spigot ends. The distance between poles can be extended from 10cm to 11cm if required.
This arm slots into the back of all the face fix brackets (except the recess bracket) to provide an extra projection of 5cm to allow room for sills, architraves, blinds or radiators.
Recommended for heavier curtains or for fixing to hollow walls, this adjustable arm can be used with any of our face fix brackets to give extra support where needed.

Almost all of our items are kept in stock and we aim to despatch within 48 hours. The lead time for items which are made to order (i.e. bespoke brackets and poles) will be quoted at point of order. Please allow longer during busy periods.
Delivery
We aim to despatch stock items within 48 hours. Our charge for consignments up to 20kg throughout most of mainland UK is £12.95 (exc. vat). Smaller items start from £7.95 (exc. vat) depending on size and weight. For highlands, Northern Ireland and the islands, please enquire. For heavier items and all other destinations, please enquire. Saturday and timed deliveries are available. Please enquire. Our parcels are sent on an overnight service using either our carrier or Royal Mail Special Delivery, both of which require a signature on arrival.
Guarantee
If you are not completely happy with any of the products you receive from us, we will be more than happy to offer an exchange or give you a refund.
Returns
To return an item, simply call us on 01993 832 940. We will make arrangements with you for it to be returned by the most appropriate method. We are happy to pay return costs on any defective item, however our standard carriage costs will apply if you simply decide you do not like the product. In this case you may wish to return any small items via Royal Mail.
