“Family poems” FATHER AND SON

MY SON MOVES ON

I hold my newborn son in my hands, life reflects its face in him. I’m a parent now an eternal prayer, for his every day for his every dream I hear the steps of time marching.

First, they took all his things away and now there remains an empty room no more old gym shoes laying around.

My fear of future holds me tight facing alone a lonely night present moment labile, to be sure, it is unattainable. Today I’m constantly questioning the past: did I do everything right? What I gave, was it my all? Or at life’s exam was I unsuccessful? I give to my son all the good that I can, my hope and power, my dreams and good will. He must carry it now and settle by himself the bill. All the knowledge of life may in my son stay. He now holds the scepter. My son has become a father today.

HE IS GONE The darkness still slumbers calmly, the undisturbed, dazzling Sun still revolves around us. But he is gone. Never again will he string his thoughts in a necklace never again look up in the skies, never again catch the bird’s flight out of the corner of his eye. Never again will he say go! to the heart Never again give power to life. At the end of the road only the night and the sorrow cry.

They also carried the soul away it’s just an empty space that remains. My son is suddenly a big boy: adult, smart, self- conscious. He moves on from his parents’ home, from the home of his adolescence of innocence. It weights heavy on my heart no proper words to say... Finally they took his piano away. One of the workers tapped a key and in the emptiness of the room the sound sobbed . My son has definitely moved. From the home, he spent his childhood in his school days, his first love, and much more, from now on, he will come here only as visitor.

Laila Sharmeen

Laila Sharmeen is a leading Bangladeshi-Canadian artist with 11 solos and over 60 international group shows to her credit. In 2011 she won a Purchase Prize at the prestigious 16th Space International Print Biennial held at OCI Museum of Art in Seoul, Korea. She showcased her works at the MEADOWS-Personal Structures project in Venice Biennale in 2017 and 2022. She is a regular participant of major international art fairs including Artexpo New York, Amsterdam International Art Fair, Tokyo International Art Fair, Barcelona Art Fair, Salon Des Beaux Arts, and Paris Art Shopping. She represented Bangladesh in 2013 World Art Games held in different cities of Croatia. Over 400 international artists were invited to the event marking Croatia’s accession to European Union. While in Croatia, she did a 10x 40 feet street painting at the Open University of Umag. Her works are in permanent collection of many local and international organizations including National Museum of Bangladesh, Izmir Cultural Center, the central bank of Bangladesh, The City Bank, Eastern Bank and leading telecom company of Bangladesh, Grameenphone. Her works demonstrate an artist whose sole concern is about devising some playful cultural codes that are intrinsically related to the stories emanated from essential Bengali hearts and psyche. Deeply perturbed by the materialistic greed and alienation of modern man, she has tried to capture the hollowness of modern civilization, the clash of civilization, apartheid, religious bigotry rendering our planet unlivable. But at the core of her heart she is romantic dreaming about a utopian world amidst obscurantisms, hypocrisy and deceit.

‘No need for temples, No need for complicated philosophy, My heart and my mind are my temple, My philosophy is love.’ Dalai Lama There were five peculiar years in my homeland. We changed the political system, changed currency twice, hundreds of thousands of refugees fled from our own country, then refugees from our neighboring country, the draft, the disappearance of large corporations, high inflation rates, wars…. Soon after the truce in my country I travelled across Tibet and back. At that time, Tibet had been occupied for decades, millions of people sought refuge in neighboring countries, numerous people disappeared, religion was made illegal. Apart from this, the people I encountered there were happy, calm and relaxed, with a smile on their face. As if they lived under a glass dome, sheltered from the worldly events around them. They were happy and content with little things, things that we Westerners probably wouldn’t even acknowledge. Imagine the joy of a Tibetan nomad herding his sheep along the road. All of a sudden he sees a tiny worm, removes it from the road onto the grass. This act of kindness made him so happy to have helped another creature. These people carry their happiness within them, and, as they once told me, they have no religion or faith, it is their way of living.

I have been an artist my whole life, but art is an ongoing process of changes, thus fitting my nature. This time I have created something completely new. Being connected to the sea, I have found joy in little pebbles of all different forms that have washed ashore. I have combined various stones, an ancient alphabet from this region, my different experiences, the art inside of me and added a little magic to come up with a meaning that goes beyond the meaning of the letter itself. To the pebbles being tossed by the sea and undergoing an alchemy of their own, I add ancient symbols and describe their meanings. This is the process of creating this Glagolic Alphabet. It is pleasing to the eye and can sometimes be used to provide answers. I have written a short manual so everyone can use these pebbles may receive answers to questions we deem important. As a little girl I used to play for hours with buttons that my grandmother kept. I made pictures from these buttons of different colors and shapes. When I was finally satisfied with a creation, I would take it apart and start making another image. Before starting elementary school, I acted in a film ‘’Seventh Continent’ - a piece by a Croatian Oscar winner that left quite an impression on me. In the film, I played the role of a children’s gang leader who gathered all the children of the world with the premise of leaving the world of adults that was a heartless world of cruelty uninterested in children, beauty and goodness. In our imagination we created an island, a continent, and all the children of our planet came to live there. It was called the ‘’Seventh Continent’’. At moments I feel as I have never left this continent. I make things different from anything ever seen before, look at life from a different perspective, and I am always searching for beauty, goodness and meaning.

Boglarka G. Horvath I work a lot. The enormous amount of work allowed me to make a living without awards and recognition and made it possible to paint freely without compromise. I’m a painter, therefore I have a hard time with most things that move beyond painting. At the same time, that’s why I am driven by curiosity, getting to know different art sectors and embracing ways of thinking into my own approach to painting. Little by little the thought came to me that I would like to find and bring to a common ground the musicians, poets, writers and painters whom I appreciate. I think the method of illustration is the most appropriate for this goal. With my small illustrations I would like to continue the work of Gustave Doré, Albrecht Dürer and the old renessaince and baroque famous masters’ paintings by combining their mode of representation with the vision of artists known from Duchamp to the present day: I would like to pay tribute and engage in dialogue with writers, poets and composers and musicians from today and recent times who are important and significant to me. I always had a special interest in people and in the cycle of life, in human and in nature. As an artist I express these passions in my paintings. I was attracted to art and interested in people from a very young age, and when I grew up, I chose psychology as my profession. For over 30 years I was working as a psychologist in the Israeli Telecommunication company. When I retired, I chose to fulfill my love and artistic tendencies and started painting. Since then, I studied and practiced with well-known artists in Israel, which deepened and enriched my knowledge, style and techniques In my private cycle as a daughter and a mother, my parents’ aging stimulated a special and significant project. Emotions, body language, our relationships, all of these are reflected in my works, and is a permanent memory of them. In my nature paintings I deal with the obvious and the visible, and also with what is behind and beyond visibility. My style ranges between realism, expressionism and the abstract. Up to date, I have presented 6 individual exhibitions, and participated in 40 group exhibitions in Israel and abroad.

The world of collage art fascinates me. By using magazines and colorful images of still life, interior ornamental design and natural views - new visions are created. The motivation behind my work is based on my personal memories and my own life experience. Symbolically it means collecting the broken pieces of my life and building new ideas. In doing so, a better world is created by putting together torn pieces of paper. I was born in Slovakia (Czechoslovakia) to parents that were holocaust survivors. We immigrated to Israel, (1949) soon after the state of Israel was established when I was only one year old. For 24 years I was the library Manager of the Faculty of Art My prior work and educational experience including high school teacher degree and receiving an MA in Mass Communication and Education from University of Clark at Worcester Massachusetts. During the last few years I had two solo exhibitions of my own and participated in two group exhibitions in Israel. The genre of Collage seems to be very easy to learn and in the last years I had few workshops were elder people and youngsters had succeeded to create their own path with colorful torn papers. It is a pleasure to inspire others by my methods and that of course motivates my creativity as well.

Ronit Koren Illouz Living in Karmiel city, Israel. there I work and teach art in my studio. I am a multidisciplinary artist mainly engaged in painting and sculpture in an iron mesh , or the combination of the two mediums. Finished my curator studies in "Seminar Hakibutzim" college. Have a B.A. in arts from Haifa University. Studied Art education in "Oranim" College, teaching Art for over thirty years and retired from the education system five years ago. I am a member of the National Artists Association, member in Haifa artists union, a member of The Association for the Study of Gender Art Women And a member of WAG an international union (WORLD ART GAMES ISRAEL). In my works I draw images from within my immediate surroundings. I borrow from reality without shedding them. These images are drawn from a collection of objects that I "hoard" Part of collective and personal memory. For me, they echo as exciting happy moments alongside other more painful ones. All of these moments are fractions and parts from "the Entire Scene". Some of the images are taken from photographs I took in open space or from recordings of family-social events. I'm doing this not only for the need to release a heavy, burdening emotional charge. but also, with a strong desire to find cooperativeness and even to inspire identification with the viewer. In my works I combine this image and texture with the desire to emphasize materialism when i create multiple layers. Art is where I can capture the essence of my perception of my world. The open and tangible world alongside this mystical side, is a process that for me constitutes self-reflection alongside emotional moments of catharsis. Over the years, I took part in numerous exhibitions around the country and world. In March 2022 "JOIE DE VIVRE" exhibition in "Al A'AGAM" Gallery, Raanana City, Israel. In December 2021 "Carpe Diem" exhibition in "Artists House" in Rishon Le Zion city, Israel. In April 2020 virtual exhibitions in "MICHAELSON APPLIED" Art Gallery, Israel. Francisco Artolózaga Lujambio Francisco Artolózaga Lujambio’s semblance

MEXICO

My artistic career commenced in November 2020 with the collective exhibition “Entre Arte y Arquitectura (Inbetween art and Architecture)” in Avancer tower, San Luis Potosí, at 18 years old. At that time, my creative process was radically different; it consisted of a bi-color palette, with which I autonomously commenced to trace surreal scenery upon small-scaled paper sheets. These scenes inevitably take us into an exploration of the subconscious, mysticism, and the all-present duality of the cathartic human experience. Artistic evolution, I consider, should be inevitable, giving into its aggressive nature, full of expression and emotion. Therefore my work is now immersed in color explosions, greater and imposing formats, a search for composition, and explorations of figure and form. This curiosity about the self and my surroundings will guide me to confront diverse forms of expression, parting from the fact that one can create anything from everything. Rodrigo González Gòmez

MEXICO

Born 1999, San Luis Potosí, México Multidisciplinary artist specialized in various pictorial techniques that extend to a variety of formats and media. Since 2016, the year in which he formalized his artistic career, González Gómez has explored traditional painting, from there he has transformed visual language in to murals, leather, ceramics, engraving, serigraphy, lithography, large-scale installations and digital representations. “His work gives the viewer freedom to experience their inner thoughts and interpret the depths of the human experience through moving expressions of mind and body. He has explored both the cultural heritage of his upbringing in Mexico and modern concepts of our relationship with emotions and environment. Roy’s innocent mind constantly leaves us in awe. Developing his passion for art from an early age, attending museums in the center of the capital of San Luis Potosí, where he is originally from, he constantly drew inspiration from the details of New Spain’s convents, temples and art galleries. Always looking for new translations of an anthropocentric concept, Roy continues to explore through different mediums, with a tireless spirit of maintaining creativity and expression as a way of life.” - critique written by Rob Woodcox Statement: I believe nature is everything outside ourselves, and art is that same nature interpreted through the human experience; it is not something vital for our basic survival, and yet we’ve been creating since the first records we have of human civilization. It is vital for the mind and spirit; for the consolidation of identity, culture, community… Art is the truth about the path the human race has traveled. It is very well said that history is written by the winners, but if one wants to know the right face of what has come before us, it is only necessary to see the art that was being created at the time. I intend, as an artist, to contribute to that record and be a mirror of the times we are currently facing. Contact: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/soy__roy

Glass design and paintings Bikkel glass objects and her paintings are included in the collections of famous Museums and Private collections, such as The Curacao Museum, Museum Maassluis, and Museum Voorlinden. Bikkel works with quality Bullseye glass in the fuse technique. For glassblowing she uses glass with as few inclusions as possible. Bikkel uses metal in her glass. “My process of working is spontaneous. I work with vibrant colors, forms and placing objects so as to acquire their textures. Emotions play an important role in this. Everything reflects the warmth of my native Curaçao”. By using the material glass in her art, Bikkel draws attention to the importance of water. Climate change in the Netherlands and the countries around us is making the importance of water increasingly clear. Mostly Bikkel processes metal chicken wire in her glass design. The texture of a barrier is a metaphor for her homesickness to Curacao. The metal used enters into an unexpected relationship with the glass, which often leads to surprises. Bikkel graduated from Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam, with judicium exceptional in 2002. https://www.bikkelartist.com 2020. Carrie Burke

Contacts: Carrie Burke Carrie.burke@gmail.com (64)0221708767 Why do we make art? I know I like to look at it, and experience it. In all its forms, it does something intangible to my soul. I guess over time I’ve realised the answer lies in that. As makers of art, I believe it gives us another language with which to speak. We are communicating directly with each other, and all viewers-with no need for translation! Our changing climate and how disrespectfully we treat this Earth, troubles and saddens me. I hope to highlight my concern at plastic pollution, and spotlight needless excessive consumption, putting it in people’s minds in a novel, ridiculous and sometimes even humorous way. My ‘useless objects’ body of work is made entirely from discarded, donated or recycled materials. I have committed to explore this, letting the materials be the inspiration, and I’m loving the challenge. The clock used in ‘Out of time’ is the 3rd replacement one at my workplace in 4 years. Even with new batteries they won’t hold the correct time, despite that being their only purpose for existing! Insanely, we continue to re-buy the same clock, from the same supplier- again and again. I feel I have freed the clock from all pretense of function, whilst single use plastic cutlery speaks to the careless ‘disposable’ expectation we have developed with objects, electronics and fashion. As well as creating impermanent site specific sculptural installations (2010-), I have enjoyed exhibiting in joint art events many times, both in my home country of Aotearoa (New Zealand) (2005-2018) and in Europe through participation in WAG events 2013-2016. I was honoured to receive a medal for Jewellery work at the WAG Montenegro event 2016.

Artist Statement I am a multidisciplinary artist. I like to depict life from my own to people and things around me. Any event is my inspiration for me. In my works, I like to represent the ideas and everyday life in abstract. My dream s and my thoughts are in my works. I dream about a clean world free of criminality, corruption, war, injustice…It’s the reason why in many of my paintings I show that message. I like to cooperate with other artists especially upcoming artists because I like to discover the new talents and make them appear. My artist philosophy: “Anything, anyone, anytime is an inspiration” I keep pushing to make my dreams true. Title: Sagittarius, Nam-Doo-Yook-Sung (Mike Dipper), visual explannation: In mythology a poison arrow shot by Hercules is directed at Chiron is pulling a bow in the direction of Scorpio. Chiron leads the way by shooting arrows in the direction of Scorpio for adventurous disciples. inside Sagittarius, the Nam-Doo-Yook-Sung (mike dipper) can be seen from May to August in the southern sky of Korea It is one of the very important constellations that determine the birth, longevity, and luck of life, that is, the meaning of the life And Name-Doo-Yook-Sung (mike dipper) is the head of Hyeon-Mu, (the guardian deity of the northern sea, Hyeon-Mu, is a combination of snake and turtle) and means the beginning of water. For this reason, Nam-Doo-Yook-Sung has been handed down as an object of korean folk belief I hope that Chiron’s Sagittarius and Nam-Doo-YookSung(mike dipper) the symbol of good fortune, will be with me during my trip to north Macedonia. SUDAN

Ameer Yousif Alsiddig Ameer Yousif Alsiddig, born 1/4/1979, in Madani, Sudan, “In my paintings, there is spontaneity in colors in making aesthetic shapes, which drives me to color, my love for coloring, and cultural, heritage and intellectual expression. The typical way of expression is through semi-realism and abstraction from my sensitivity because it is more expressive and deep in thinking and does not make the eye bored, because in every look of the recipient he discovers more worlds larger than the area of the painting itself. Symbolism makes the artist more profound in thinking and extracting the visual inventory that the artist received from contemplation of the culture or cultures that he learned about and the formation of creative ideas from them. And reflected by a new luster. In my paintings I use some traditional symbols from the surrounding society and Sudanese culture because I am part of this culture. My split in color is what made me deal with color with love and happiness when I start painting and forget all that is taking me away from making painting. I cannot imagine my life without painting” Education: Madani, undergraduate level, University of Sudan, College of Education,2000 2001- 2007 Department of Explanatory Design.

I Cant hold on When your love is threatened you fight for it. You just cant hold on to the external and internal negativities that can break the bond of love. The artwork depicts two people who really love each other but an existing force cause the two to drift apart. The elongated arms shows how much the person has tried to fight against the outside forces creating a shield to preserve their love and giving their relationship a chance of getting back on track.
