Press Release Blockade of Rte 132 at Gesgapegiag Idle No More Gesgapegiag, QC, January 2, 2013: The Micmacs of Gesgapegiag`s Band Council supports the grassroots movement within the community that presently has blocked the Rte 132 that passes through Gesgapegiag. This blockade is in support of the Idle No More movement against Bills C-45 and C-38. As well, the blockade is in support of Chief Spence who is in her 23rd day of a hunger strike in an attempt to obtain a meeting with Prime Minister Harper. This blockade began at 10:00 PM on the 1st of January and will finish at 10:00 PM this evening, the 2nd of January 2013. A slowdown of traffic on the Rte 132 through Gesgapegiag will begin tomorrow, the 3rd of January 2013 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and information flyers will be distributed. The information that is distributed will be outlining the Bills C-45 and C-38 and the impacts to all Canadians and First Nations. This activity will be repeated on Friday, the 4h of January at the same times. Everyone is welcome to participate. On Saturday, the 5th of January 2013, there will a March of Solidarity held in Gesgapegiag at 1:00 PM. The March will begin at the Gesgapegiag Band Office and will end at the Traditional Village Site where there will be speeches made about the issues at hand, such as : Bill C-45, Bill C-38, the Idle No More Movement and the situation of Chief Spence. The Rte 132 will be blocked to traffic during the March of Solidarity to assure the safety of all involved. Everyone is invited, and encouraged, to attend since these new bills have a detrimental effect on everyone and our environment. There will be Traditional drumming and singing during the March.
