We invite you to stop in our office or give us a call! We would love the opportunity to let you know what we offer. We have many classes, activities, programs and leagues for all ages. Welcome to the neighborhood and we look forward to meeting you!

Dear Community Members, As the City of West Allis and Village of West Milwaukee come alive this summer after a very long winter of unusual conditions, we are excited to announce that this is a big milestone year for us as the WAWM RCS (West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation and Community Services) celebrates it’s 85th year of service to our residents. Our department has grown and progressed as many generations have passed through our programs and helped to shape and develop us into who we are as an agency today. However, so much opportunity, growth and development remains. Through these times, our department remains committed to the pursuits of the pillars of our industry as established by the National Recreation and Parks Association: Health and Wellness, Social Equity and Conservation. Our staff is working hard to build a new culture of service that aligns with these pillars, fosters engagement within the community and positions us for another 85 years of service. Some recent successes include; Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association Silver Star recognitions for Mystery Trips and the Annual Mother Daughter Tea, construction and design plans for a new Recreation and Community Services Center with no costs or tax levies, translation of our Summer 2019 Activity Guide in Spanish, expansion of our social media and communication practices, and improved cultivation of community partnerships. These are just some of the innovative and collaborative ways we are working on to enhance our services to the community. The WAWM RCS Department provides critical connections for our residents which is integral to shaping the identity and values of the community while encouraging healthy and active lifestyles for all ages. We strive to do this through meaningful and fulfilling positive recreational experiences. Over the last 85 years, the WAWM RCS Department has embraced the process of continually improving to offer high quality programs to meet our ever changing needs. We celebrate our partnerships with others that help us to achieve balance and access to programs and facilities. We take great pride in serving our communities and do not take this task lightly. So let’s take the advice of our good friend and department mascot, “Rex,” and let’s have fun! A summer of awesome recreational experiences await you as there are numerous opportunities to choose from. Your participation in a program has an impact on our community and can bring about more positive change than you know! See you this summer at the WAWM RCS Department! Yours in recreation and service, Shelly Strasser and Team

ORGANIZATIONS

Nathan Hale High School The Suburban Concert Band is a community band composed of both professional and amateur musicians from West Allis and the surrounding Greater Milwaukee Area. The band rehearses at Nathan Hale High School on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30pm. The band performs four formal concerts throughout the year. In addition, both the Concert and Swing Street Big Band are proud to represent West Allis in local concerts and parades. We welcome high school, college and adult musicians of all ages and from all the communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Haven’t played in a while? There is no need to worry about an audition, just dust off your old instrument and join us for some good music.
