STUDY ABROAD Is a Commodore Tradition In keeping with its tradition to encourage new experiences, 13 student-athletes from the Department of Student Athletics studied in five foreign countries during the summer of 2013. Breaking that total down, the traveling Commodores were from six sports—football, women’s soccer, women’s track and field, men’s cross country, men’s basketball and women’s swimming. Destination locations were England, China, Denmark, Austria and South Africa.

Football’s DARIEN BRYANT (shown here, second from left, at the Great Wall of China) was among the Vanderbilt student-athletes taking advantage of the opportunity to study abroad. Vanderbilt Athletics is one of the few major university programs that have figured out how athletes that train year-round can still have the same academic opportunities as the rest of the student body.
