Manuel hijo está en vías de conseguir su sueño debido a su empeño, pasión y determinación, según el entrenador Stephen Blea. Manuel tiene las condiciones para triunfar pero necesita recuperar todo lo que perdió cuando se fue al Centro Olímpico y Educativo de la Universidad del Norte de Michigan con una beca de USA Boxing, dijo Blea. “Obtener una buena condición es el 90 por ciento de la preparación de un boxeador amateur. Manuel necesita mejorar en ese aspecto porque en esta disciplina lo importante es marcar puntos”, dijo su entrenador. Eso es en lo que Manuel está enfocado en estos días cuando se prepara para la eliminatoria “Last Chance” durante la semana del 3 de junio en Cincinnati, Ohio. En esa competición, Manuel debe ganar cinco peleas para poder avanzar a las pruebas olímpicas en Mobile, Alabama, la semana del 31 de julio. “No veo por qué Manuel no puede estar ahí”, dijo Blea. have a girlfriend, but I’m married to boxing.” That is how Manuel Damairias López describes his commitment to the sport to which he has dedicated his life since he was a baby, following his dad around the ring. López is a 20-year-old Denver native and Colorado Golden Gloves champion in the

He has an impressive amateur record and dreams of making it to the 2012 Olympic Games, representing Colorado and the United States. “At my weight I’m in the top eight in the country, and there is no reason for me not to be there if I keep improving, focusing and training harder,” he said. But the road to London is long. And López has already discovered the difficulties of this
unforgiving sport. He also knows the troubles life brings when one makes poor choices. “I learn from my dad’s experience, seeing how he went the wrong way and what it cost him. I don’t want that path for myself,” López said. “I want to always be on the right path and do the right things even if the boxing doesn’t work out.”
