Welcome to

Venturefest Welcome to Venturefest Yorkshire 2016, in its 12th year, but under the new ownership of Make It York, an organistion now embracing Science City York.

The location may be York but the organising team have worked hard to ensure it is an event for the whole county of Yorkshire and we are pleased to see delegates, exhibitors and speakers from across the region. Our brief was also to freshen the event up and we have put a lot of effort into building new things into the programme for the day. We make no apologies for the fact that there is more content and activity today than you will be to take in – you simply won’t be able to do everything. This guide is therefore designed to help you prioritise and plan your day, James Newman Chair of Organising Team

enabling you to choose from our menu of keynote speakers, seminars, competitions, training workshops and, of course, the exhibition. A special mention for the exhibitors who are segmented into ‘zones’ to help you focus in on particular areas of interest. There are over 100 stands and they reflect the broad spectrum of innovation and enterprise from across the region. Two of the highlights of the day are our ‘Pitchfest’ and ‘Innovation Showcase’ competitions. They form the essence of what the Venturefest concept is all about : giving a platform for new business ideas and enabling innovators and entrepreneurs to meet up with real investors. There are many examples from the previous 11 years of Venturefest of successful, new companies being created. From a record number of entries for both competitions, we are sure there will be some new successes today. The day will conclude with something of a party. There will be beer, curry and some special entertainment and a further opportunity to network. It starts at 17:00, please stay around for an hour or so before you leave for home. With the onset of Brexit, it is even more important that the country, and therefore the county of Yorkshire, puts creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation at the heart of economic activity. Future growth will only come from investors, entrepreneurs and innovators working collaboratively together and we hope that Venturefest Yorkshire can play a significant part in helping that process. On behalf of the organising team, thank you to everyone – exhibitors, suppliers, sponsors and delegates – who have combined to make today possible. We hope you have a valuable, stimulating and enjoyable day.

Welcome to Venturefest – 03
