WELCOME TO TRURO Nestled in the heart of Cornwall, you will find Our Great Little City. Whether you’re a local, a day-tripper, or a holidaymaker, there is something for you.

T

hose in need of a little retail therapy can explore the shops that line our cobbled streets, an eclectic mix of independent retailers and high-street favourites. Along the way, shoppers will find a mix of cafes and coffee shops where they can relax and recharge. Our city also holds a wealth of history. From the stunning Neo-Gothic style cathedral that dominates the city’s skyline, to the Royal Cornwall Museum, which tells the tales of time through exhibitions and collections. Truro is a place with stories to tell, and you can join many a tour to learn more of the city’s secrets. Though we may be a city, we boast an extensive amount of outdoor space. Bask in the summer sun in our glorious parks and gardens, or explore our woodland areas. The fun doesn’t stop in the evening. Treat yourself to a meal at one of the city’s finest restaurants, or sip on a cocktail or two at one of our bars. After, enjoy a theatre experience at the Hall for Cornwall, or dance the night away to live music at the Old Bakery Studios. However you choose to spend your time in Truro, we will make it a visit you won’t forget.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE Truro is the place that Cornwall comes for culture, couture and cuisine. Whether you visit for a day, or stay a while longer, Our Great Little City will tick all your boxes.

History

Eat and drink out in Truro

Q

uite how the city derived its name is often the subject of many debates in Truro. Many believe it came from the Cornish tri-veru, meaning three rivers, though others believe it comes from tri-ru, meaning three roads. Whether you visit us by road or river, you will want to know more about our city. Truro was one of five Cornish Stannary towns and became a thriving port. In fact, Lemon Quay was used as a working port up until 1922. Today, The Drummer sculpture stands on the Quay and nods to our history. Of course, no trip to Truro is complete without a visit to the Cathedral. In 1877, Truro received city status and work started on the Cathedral in 1880. Now, you will be hard pushed to find somewhere in the city where you can’t catch a glimpse of the impressive building. The best way to learn more is with a trip to the Royal Cornwall Museum. With over 300,000 heritage objects in their care, there is plenty to keep you enthralled during your visit.

Tinner's Court

Shop

W

ith an eclectic mix of independent and high-street retailers, it’s no surprise that Truro is a popular shopping destination. Truro is also a popular choice with market-goers. The Pannier Market and Lemon Street Market are favourite fixtures of the city, and the award-winning Truro Farmers Market pitches up on Lemon Quay every Wednesday and Saturday. The Antiques and Collectables Market and Duchy Fairs’ Cornwall Shop Small Market also pop-up on Lemon Quay throughout the year.

Catch a concert at the Cathedral

Food & Drink

T

ruro is a fantastic place for all foodies. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, or a takeout, the city has you covered. From the best of British cuisine, to flavours from around the world, you will be spoilt for choice. Our wonderful cafes and restaurants cater to all tastes and requirements. If you prefer to cook up a storm, then visit our choice of stores, offering the very best of Cornish produce. The Great Cornish Food Hall, The Pannier Market, and Truro Farmers Market all boast fresh, sustainable, and local produce. From locally sourced meat, fish and vegetables, to our favourite Cornish tipples and treats, you’ll find it all in Truro.

Arts & Culture

T

he Hall for Cornwall has certainly put Truro on the map for entertainment following its recent reopening. It is Cornwall’s leading venue for entertainment and arts, with dazzling west-end shows, popular music acts and hilariously funny comedians. Elsewhere in the city, the Old Bakery Studios brings culture to Truro with alternative music and arts. Live music and comedy nights are ever popular at this cultural venue, which doubles as a creative hub with its workspaces and studios. Truro is also dotted with several art galleries. From contemporary craft to modern British art, admire the work of many different creatives.

OUR GREAT GREEN CITY From woodland spaces and fun on the river, to relaxing afternoons in the park and perfect picnic spots, Our Great Green City has it all.

T

ruro is home to an abundance of outdoor space, offering exciting outdoor adventures, and quiet spots to relax in the sun and dine alfresco. Victoria Gardens is a favourite spot with locals and visitors alike, with its sweet flower beds and lush lawns. During the summer, experience garden band concerts and treat yourself to a snack from Pollen in the Park. Beside the river you will find Boscawen Park. Little ones can burn off their energy on the play equipment, and you can even try your hand at a game of tennis. Afterwards, reward yourself with a treat from Cafe in the Park. Just a short stroll from the park, you will find Sunny Corner, which certainly lives up to its name. Perhaps you want to explore the wild side of the city. To begin your adventure, why not collect a free Wild Truro guide from the Visitor Information Centre and set off on the town trail, stopping to appreciate all the beautiful blooms and buzzing wildlife on the way. From rare plants and bug hotels, to budding blooms and hanging baskets, there’s lots to see around the city centre. After tackling the trail, use the guide to explore the city’s best kept secrets; our woodland areas. These areas are the most magical of places and you may even spot

a fairy or two on the Enchanted Trail, hiding behind the fairy doors. You can explore Daubuz Moor and Coosebean Woodland on two wheels along the cycle paths. The fun doesn’t stop on land. You will often spot a kayak along the river, and you can explore the waterway with a Fal River cruise. On selected dates, the cruise will bring you straight up the river to Truro.
