Bring your bikes from the mainland or hire locally Wightlink, Red Funnel Ferries and Hovertravel all allow foot passengers to take bikes onboard for free. If you can’t bring a bike or don’t have one it’s no problem. The Isle of Wight has plenty of cycle hire facilities. Head over to the Bicycle Island pages for more information.

Get your adrenalin rush on the Chalk Ridge Trail

Test yourself against some of the steepest hills on the Island. The route covers a variety of terrain from mud tracks to chalk paths following some bridleways. Not for the faint hearted!

Whether you bring your own bike or hire one here, you can see the Island at your own pace.

The Island Coaster bus lets you get even further with your bikes. (Service runs April to end of September).

Try the Pedlars Cafe on the Red Squirrel Trail for coffee and cake, or Off the Rails in Yarmouth for excellent food and first class service set in a stunning location. Many attractions, cafes and pubs offer secure cycle parking.

Take your pick from 12 designated cycle routes (or mix it up)

Ride the whole of the Island You can ride around the Island in a day or spread your journey over 3 or 4 days for a more leisurely pace. The route is very well signposted so you can concentrate on the lovely scenery. Lots of baggage transfer services help you see the Island without needing a car.

The Island Coaster bus takes 6 bikes and makes the journey from Ryde to Yarmouth hugging the south coast. Hitch a ride to help you explore more of the Island’s stunning scenery.

The Red Squirrel Trail takes you coast to coast from Cowes to Sandown and Shanklin via Newport. Most of the trail is traffic free with few ascents making it perfect for a family ride with young children.
