rawing inspiration from dunhill’s long heritage of creating motoring accessories, a soft yet durable cowhide leather fabricates this range, complemented by an embossed leather trim with raised dotted detail for a unique differentiation whilst a three-hole motif directly references the dunhill driving gloves. Every piece in this collection is available in a true black, and for a highlight of colour, the Holdall and Tote Bag are also available in a stunning pillar box red.

dunhill are pleased to launch their leather collection for Spring Summer 2009. The dunhill ADV8 leather range for Spring Summer 2009 is a stylistic and casual collection introducing a series of brand new shapes and silhouettes in both large and small leather designs for our gentleman’s every day requirements.

In typical dunhill style, this range boasts superior functionalities which include a fully adjustable and detachable padded shoulder strap in tonal webbing on the versatile Tote Bag and Double Zip Briefcase or a comfort grip handle on the handsomely proportioned Medium Holdall. Flat compartments and zip pockets in hard wearing micro fibre will store all essentials in each style, secured with easy to open double pull zips in brushed palladium or a magnetic clasped flapped closure on the Messenger and North South designs. The collection extends to an elegant and understated small leather goods range offering classic dunhill wallet styles along with brand new designs with zip around edging. Each piece is available in ADV8 black cowhide and boasts contrast stitching

and the tactile yet subtle addition of the trademark embossed dotted trim within the interior. Ergonomic and intelligently designed, dunhill’s successful Heist range is updated this season marrying tradition and contemporary in 7 masculine and functional pieces of luggage. A new fabrication of khaki brown herringbone canvas teamed with a chocolate cowhide leather trim adds a more classic aspect, referencing dunhill’s English heritage.

The peninsula’s rugged mountains which rise up to 2,100 meters above the coast and just into the Strait of Hormuz have a spectacular fjord-like look. It is no wonder that Musandam is also called “The Norway of the Middle East”.

A brand new innovative style for Spring Summer 2009, the two way tote bag works as a large tote which can be folded down and fastened into a messenger style with a handle for both positions and attachable shoulder strap.

Accommodation

ighy Bay is located on a headland on the northern Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman. It is set between dramatic mountains to the rear and a broad sandy beach in front. The Musandam Peninsula is an exclave region of the Sultanate of Oman, separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. Zighy Bay is located 120km, or 90 minutes drive from Dubai International Airport.

Durability for luggage designed to withstand the rigours of city life and travel is ensured by performance fabrics – the herringbone cotton and cowhide leather outer is distinguished by a horizontal over-stitching for a robust, textured finish, whilst the stone microfibre internal lining provides visibility and subtle gunmetal fixtures embossed with the distinctive dunhill logo offer a final sophisticated flourish.

zeitgeist [zeit•geist]; Pronunciationˈ\: tsīt-ˌgīst, ˈzīt\Function: noun; Usage: often capitalized; Etymology: German, from Zeit + Geist spirit Date: 1835 meaning: the defining spirit or mood of a particular time in history.

or many people Kuwait sits as an easy target when it comes to criticizing the authorities over human rights and expatriate worker issues. Certainly, when it comes to facing up to these matters, the nation cannot yet sleep with a clear conscience. Whilst our shortcomings may be apparent, it is not so obvious that the solutions themselves are indeed equally clear. The nation requires people with sufficient social conscience to show us that there is another way, and the workers also need their own champion. In Bibi Nasser Al-Sabah, founder of the Social Work Society of Kuwait, Men’s Passion’s Simon Balsom met such a woman. Here Bibi talks candidly about the challenges Kuwait faces as it undergoes change across many levels in its sometimes hesitant steps towards accepting greater social responsibility.

The story of the Social Work Society of Kuwait is a brief, yet intense, tale. Having graduated in Art History during 2003, Bibi returned to Kuwait to take up her expected role at the Dar al Athar al Islamiyyah (DAI). Although immediately settling at the DAI, Bibi yearned for something more; for an opportunity to work closer to the community, indeed to find a way in which she could directly influence her society.

A Woman’s Passion

Bibi Nasser Al-Sabah

Founder of The Social Work Society of Kuwait

“For me, my work at the DAI was a job; a job that I loved very much, but still just a job. I wanted to discover a way that I could give something back to society”, Bibi explained. While she completed valuable work at the DAI (no one should ever suggest that exploring our cultures and finding new ways to share them is ever anything less than a worthy vocation) Bibi felt that, given an opportunity, her future lay in other humanitarian endeavours. Of course, such opportunities do not typically present themselves. “However”, she says, “I realised as I moved around the city, I was hearing stories of desperately poor working conditions for some of Kuwait’s residents, of abuse, of low salaries, and I noticed that these stories were not isolated, I realised that in fact here lay a terrible situation for vulnerable people in our society.” Whilst many among us see similar situations around us, and have encountered instances of abuse, it defines as extraordinary the

Frauscher Cantiere Nautico Feltrinelli Speedboat Luxury Austrian boatbuilder HYPERLINK “http://www.luxist.com/tag/Frauscher/” Frauscher has come out with one of the HYPERLINK “http://blog.jameslist.com/2009/frauscher-cantiere-nauticofeltrinelli/” most beautiful speedboats we’ve ever laid eyes on, a stunning combination of classic good looks and modern design. The Cantiere Nautico Feltrinelli (above) is being produced in honor of Italian boatracing legend Dino Feltrinelli, who won several titles in the 1930s and ‘40s. Frauscher, founded in 1927, commissioned designer Annette Hintwirth to create the special edition of their sporty and elegant 686 Lido model. Hintwirth dressed the craft in a black hull with teak decking and white waterproof leather upholstery. Only nine examples will be built and each one will be delivered to the new owners at Lake Garda, HYPERLINK “http://www.luxist.com/tag/Italy/” Italy along with a lesson in piloting the boat. Features of the chic craft, which is powered by a Volvo Penta V8 engine, include a rotating, retractable heightadjustable table, driver’s seats that can turn 360° degrees, and an automatic wind protection shield that deploys at the proper speed.

individual who is prepared to take on a challenge such as this. Bibi had no qualms in accepting it, “I decided that these were the people I should find a way to help and support”.

Designer Alexander Amosu is most famous for his diamond-covered phones but he is also behind the world’s most expensive suit. The US$150,000 suit took more than 80 hours to create. It has been delivered to a private buyer who has not been named at a party in central London today.

In as much as she is fully committed to this as a way to help the workers themselves, she sees her work, and that of the Social Work Society (SWS), as being of benefit to the greater Kuwait as well. Bibi is unequivocal, “Society here needs to understand that the way we treat our foreign labour reflects on this country and our citizens. If we are able to deal with the issues here, and to give these people a better environment in which to live and work, then we will find ourselves in a better environment too”.

The suit is made from material that includes vicuna and qiviuk, the world’s most expensive wool, gathered from the Arctic muskox blended with pashmina to create a cloth known as Vanquish II. This is the same fabric used in Brioni’s $43,000 suit. Amosu’s suit includes nine 18-carat gold and pave-set diamond buttons. As the designer says, “buying an Alexander Amosu suit is the ultimate in luxury.”

She continues, “As Kuwaiti’s, we are very lucky. The Government takes good care of us, we are truly a welfare state. But the foreign labourers, and I include domestic workers there - a category which the system here seems unwilling to acknowledge has any rights - are the people without a voice. These are precisely the people we at the SWS choose to give a voice to”.

A truly minimalist foosball in stainless steel, aluminum and ESG unbreakable glass. All options are customizable including colors of frame, legs and field. There are also over 12 options for the figures that can be selected below. The tables can also have a company or team logo on the sides or playing field. Handles are shown in black, but are a chromed aluminum. Well worth the US$17,790 asking price.

Artful Rusticity: Organic Furniture by Urban Hardwoods In many if not most places, when a tall old tree becomes befallen with disease and must be torn down, it gets chopped into firewood or hauled to a landfill. Not in Seattle, where a furniture company called HYPERLINK “http://www.urbanhardwoods.com” Urban Hardwoods salvages doomed sycamores, elms, walnuts, Pacific madrones and other species and fashions them into one-of-a-kind household pieces. The company makes a range of hand-crafted products, including dining and coffee tables, desks, side tables, benches and headboards. Each is marked by rich-grained wood and a distinct organic shape: a black walnut dinner table branches into a “Y”; a coffee table made from the cross-section of red cedar bears the outline of a clover leaf. Urban Hardwoods has two showrooms, one in Seattle and another, opened this month, in San Francisco. It ships to all 50 states. The pieces range from $1,000 to $10,000.

Of course it’s been no easy task to achieve what she has. Merely establishing the SWS as an official non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Kuwait was no easy task. Even, it must be acknowledged, for an Al-Sabah. Without doubt, on occasions,

Sonic Branding Orient TV approached us to create a TV identity. With Optix Digital Dubai we came up with the concept of Drama, Music and Movie. All moods are represented in the clips through symbols like the “bubble” in Drama, the “tape” in music and the “reel” in Movies. The sonic logo is optimistic, upbeat using a simple upwards major scale and is inspired by arabic melodies. The targeted market is the upbeat and enthourisatic Syria in 2010. Therefore the clips are modern, high tech and positive.

POSTER DESIGN In Richard III “An Arab VIP”, the camera follows a touring Arab production of Shakespeare’s play as it moves from rehearsals in the oil-rich Arabian Gulf State of Kuwait to the charged atmosphere of a U.S. premiere at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and on to the United Arab Emirates - for a command performance at the behest of local princesses. In between, the cast and crew gather in various cities across the Arab world and the process of breathing life into their fictional characters takes shape in a way that reflects the politics and turmoil that surrounds them.
