30th Anniversary Prize Fund of €10,000 announced for the Diageo Baileys Champion Dairy Cow Competition in association with Glanbia Ingredients Ireland Ltd [Dublin, 21st June 2013]: Minister Tom Hayes T.D., was in the Baileys factory in Dublin recently to launch the 30th Anniversary Diageo Baileys Irish Champion Cow Competition, which is sponsored by Diageo in association with its cream supplier, Glanbia Ingredients Ireland Ltd. The competition is expected to attract top Holstein Friesian breeders from across the island of Ireland who will be vying for a top prize of €2,500 and a reserve prize of €1000 when it takes place at the Virginia Show Co. Cavan on 21 August. Speaking at the 30th Anniversary launch, which was attended by over 50 members of the media, agri-business industry and farming sector, Minister Hayes congratulated the two companies on their long-standing partnership and commitment to the competition which is considered the most prestigious dairy livestock event in Ireland. Also speaking at the event, David Smith, Diageo Country Director said: “The Diageo Baileys Irish Champion Cow Competition is an excellent example of supply chain partnership with our cream supplier Glanbia Ingredients Ireland Ltd, and through them in turn with the thousands of dairy breeders and primary milk producers involved in providing year-round cream for Baileys. Internationally, through the Baileys brand, Ireland's reputation for high quality food & drink produce is promoted all over the world." Martin Tynan, General Manager of the Glanbia Ingredients Ireland's cream processing plant in Virginia Co. Cavan which supplies the fresh cream to Baileys added, "This competition consistently attracts the finest Holstein Friesian cows and we expect breeders to come out in force for this summer's Anniversary event." Entries are open now for the top title of 'Diageo Baileys Irish Champion Dairy Cow'; along with the cheque for €2,500 and winner will take home the Virginia Milk Products trophy.


€1000 will be awarded to the breeder of the 'Reserve Champion'. Best Heifer in Milk prize fund €1,700. 1st place attracts a prize of €500, 2nd place will be awarded €300, and €200 will go to 3rd place. In addition, €100 will be awarded to entrants from 4th to 10th place inclusively. Trophies will be presented for Highest Protein Content, Best EBI and Best Exhibitor-Bred Cow.
