Individual projects includes an explanation of how the unique animal camouflages in their natural habitat. This assignment correlates with our 3rd language arts unit, titled Look Again.
Room 21, 2nd Grade Spring 2011
To create our Camouflage Comic Life book we did the following: We prepared by studying and discussing camouflage and animals in our 2nd grade class. Each student used the Comic Life program to create their own page. Students added their candid photo using Comic Life Capture. Students added an animal photo which they had been assigned (found on the Internet and placed in a folder on the computer for students to access using Comic Life Finder). Two Comic Life Balloons were added. One for an explanation of camouflage. Another for a description of how their animal was using camouflage. A cover was created by the teacher and all the students' comics were added after the cover using the file > Import Comics menu option (be sure you have Comic lIfe Ver. 1.5 or greater) (Or... use Page > New Blank Page > then open the student's page and Select all, then copy and paste the student's work on the blank page after the teacher's cover page repeating for each student. Or... drag and drop from pages side bar to side bar. To create this online book, we converted the Comic Life file to PDF. Using an Apple Mac we opened our project and used the File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF option. Or... You can use the Comic Life menu option FIle > Export > Fixed-Resolution PDF File but this seemed to produce a considerably larger file. We then used http://issuu.com/ to create a book online using the PDF file. Using the ISSUU embed code we are able to add the book to our web pages!
