Chairman’s report Well it has been quite a two months as Marion & I spent a month on holiday in the South Island. Adam Young your Vice Chairman took on my job & chaired two committee meetings very ably. Thank you Adam. Future Chairman I think! The Far North Tour was once again set to a very high standard by Lyn Wrack & Donna Nobilo & a great band of willing helpers. Lots of positive remarks by the entrants. An entrant who had never done this sort of thing before stopped me & said ‘I am 62 years old & have never had so much fun in my life & am sad that I didn't do this years ago.’ Another remark was ‘what a great rally where are all your Members? They can't know what they are missing out on.’ On that note I would like to know how many of you folk have not been to a Club Night or Rally in the four months since June 2016 & why. Also this is the last chance for those of you that get hard copy newsletters to put up your hands & say you will attend a Xmas Function & prize giving in the daylight as the Club has been donated a new season lamb to be done on the spit & the function will be free to club Members If we get not replies I will split it up between the members who have helped out since June 2016. At the morning tea on far North Tours Sunday farewell I took this photo of Peter Apeldoorn enjoying himself. Peter has been wheelchair bound for many years as members that know him will be aware. What a great guy. He has been at the forefront of the Club & has pushed himself to the limit to be a great Club Member. He has filled many roles very ably including Chairman. How many of us can say the same! If I wore a hat I would take it off to you Peter. Also Alison who has helped him be the great person he is. Thank you both. Gwyn Price has donated tea tree firewood to the club & has put it in our wood box. Many thanks Gwyn. Also the Dargaville Wednesday run had a great number of cars turn up and went to Lester Appletons residence at Maungakaramea. He gave a great talk on the two Riley cars that he owns. One was owned by his grandfather and sold many years ago which he tracked down and bought back. We also had a guided tour around his property and learnt a bit about the vagaries of growing avocados, which the members were invited to take home. Another great Dargaville mid week run. Many thanks Lester and also to Dargaville for hosting this event Finally I would like to invite members to share their views with your committee and I, the phone lines are open. On that note to a positive end of the year have a great time. Cheers Keith

Motorbike report Despite the Far North Tour in which three bikes took part, eight bikes made the start for the local monthly run including new starter Don Poyntz on his 650 AJS. We travelled out through Abbey Caves Road and on up into Tikipunga before ascending over Vinegar Hill. A large black cloud had built up ahead of us stretching north over Hikurangi, which was directly in our path and proceeded to dump its load on us for about 5 minutes, absolutely soaking everyone. We finally emerged out of it when we climbed out of the swamp at Matarau. From there we went via Ruatangata and Kokopu roads turning into Draffin road before arriving at the Poroti watering hole for afternoon tea. From here everyone dispersed. Bikes included a Motor Guzzi, late model Suzuki, three Triumphs of various age and sizes, a BSA Gold Flash and two AJS 650s. All the best to those entering The Auckland VCC MC rally at Kaiawa next weekend. Make sure you bring home the silverware this time. Until next time, safe motoring and keep the rubber to the road. Lofty.

Dargaville doings 15th Oct 2016 Journey through Time Rally 4 Cars loads from Dargaville went down to Taumarunui. (Wade’s, Jeffrie's, Grant's and Dawes) “Nature’s Paradise at the End of the Road" (37 Cars) Friday night there was a pot luck dinner which we all attended. It was mostly sunny on Saturday; we had to look out for silent checks and questions to answer. The morning run took us out to back roads onto Hikumutu Rd, into Makokomiko Rd, over to Kakahi, through Owhango into Oio Road to the end. Stopped and had lunch at Blue Duck Station Cafe in the afternoon, the run took us back the same way until Kawautahi Rd, went along this road then back onto Hikumuto Road, and back to Taumarunui. Then we did a straight line which took us around the streets towards the Club rooms. We all went to dinner, at prize giving. Bev and Doug got Runner Up in their Austin A4. The rest of us got a prize for being the furthest away. This was my second time I have attended and really enjoyed myself. The club put on a good rally and the dinner was great. Ernie Coming Events Wednesday 14th December

Fish & Chips or what you like at N W Aero Club 5pm Meeting afterwards, then a run. Then back for dessert. So please bring a dessert to share. No Mid-Week run this month

Far North Tour Again another very successful day of motoring. The arduous back roads of yesteryear were included much to the delight of many well seasoned entrants! And they are still asking for more! It was one to remember, especially the morning tea break at the Kawakawa Primary School. We had written that no one was to leave until the children had given us a Kapa Haka performance. Not only did they do this, but they actually sang all the way through our cuppa. They were to be in Kaitaia the weekend after for the Regional Kapa Haka Competition. At present they have not given us any results but they were very grateful for the donation we took back to them on Sunday morning. The donations received amounted to $300.50 and Brian and I were again given lots of waiata and hugs before we could leave. Many thanks to everyone who made this event such a memorable weekend. Donna Nobilo needs a special thank you for all her input and also to the Far North Branch for their contribution. It’s still a great team.

Doug Grant had tyre trouble & would like to give Carters Tyres Kawakawa his thanks for the excellent service

Technical glass & crystal repair service Hello, my name is Stephen Lyons. This is just a brief message to let you know of a service I provide, which may be of use to you at some time in your line of business. For many years, I worked with my brother Ken, in a business called Western Glass. I am now working from home, as Ken retired this year. I specialize in:  intricate hand bevelled glass pieces for all types of clocks, e.g. carriage clocks, etc  barometers  scientific instruments or gauges  I can also supply convex glass for clocks I do all my bevelling the old fashioned way, on machines that date back to the 1930's, and can drill holes, and fit pointers for barometers, and also fit the glass to the bezels. I can also make new bevelled mirrors for antique silver hand mirrors, and bevelled pieces for leadlights. As well as the bevelling work, I also grind and polish chips from the rims of crystal glasses, decanters and bowls, etc, and repair Murano glass items, and similar objects, if practical. The Western Glass website (www.westernglass.co.nz) is still running at present should you wish to view photos, etc. Please note that the silvering service featured on it, is no longer provided by us, as this side of the business has been sold. I shall in time have my own website, but this one will provide you with examples of the work I was doing then, and am still doing now. If I can be of any help, whether providing a quote, or advice, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone. You can courier or post items to me at: 98 Triangle Rd, Massey, Auckland 0614. Spares Report

Once again the stock level in the club spares shed has had a boost thanks to the generosity of some of our members. Bruce and Claudia Jeffery are in the process of moving house and are downsizing their assets. I believe they are now down to 10 cars, 6 mopeds and a small mountain of spare parts. Rob Hughes and I took my trusty old Mitsubishi truck to Dargaville on Tuesday to help Bruce empty his sheds. We loaded no fewer than five mopeds and a huge load of various parts on to the truck. It was a much slower trip home. As well as this Bruce and Claudia delivered a car to the shed last week for the club to pass on. The car is a two door Series E Morris Eight which is very complete, very restorable and still has the rego on hold. This car and the mopeds are for sale if anyone is interested. I intend to try to get the car running when I get time, however if you are interested in this or any of the mopeds or parts please get in touch with me or someone on the parts team. Cheers Lawrence
