Chairmans Comments Greetings everyone and may this new year bring you Health and Happiness. I do not watch the news any more because world wide there is not much happiness, I am not a religious person but I did teach my children to treat others as you would like them to treat you, as Christmas is the only time of the year that the whole family are on holiday we, as a family, make sure we all get together and eat well. Which we did, very well, I sincerely hope that you all managed to do the same. The Bedford that I rebuilt from a rather dilapidated barn find in Rangiora has been sold to a chap in Nelson, he is pleased with it, I will not be doing another rebuild, much as I refuse to admit it, old age is rearing its ugly head and I don't know why, but I do not seem to be able to do as much as I used to do!!! Jen and I still have the 1954 Ford Anglia, which is still in very good order, although at present I am giving her a once over for the WOF next month. We had a good committee meeting on Wednesday, it was suggested that our members were not being informed enough as to what was going on at committee so from now on the minutes of the committee meetings will be emailed to you all each month, to create transparency with in the club. I am hoping to attend the Executive Meeting in March in Christchurch, if you have any questions you wish me put to them please email me. I wish you all happy motoring and good health for the new year, All the best, Clive, [Chairman]

Secretary’s Corner – February 2024 Hi Everyone Welcome to new members What a great way to start the New Year by being able to welcome another four members to our branch. We have Murray McKenzie, Richard Pollard with a Triumph Toledo, and Janette McKenzie and husband Brian Harrison. So, a friendly reminder to wear name badges at club events. While lots of us know each other, not all of us do. Look out for our new members and help them to feel welcome. After all, it is the main reason we exist, to enjoy each other’s company and share our interest in older vehicles and our motoring history. Easy conversation starters. Phone Numbers I am aware there has been a push in the communications industry to drop land lines and encourage the use only of cellphones. If you are one of these households, remember to advise National Office of a cellphone if just a landline number was what you had when you joined. Such information is held by the National Office. Each branch is able to access just its own members on the system, so if we need to contact you for any reason, this is where we will turn to get a number. Membership Renewals Please contact Linda at National Office via admin@vcc.org.nz or ph 03 366 4461 if you have not yet received your renewal membership cards. Final reminders have been sent out. Any membership renewals still outstanding at the Executive meeting on 16th March will lapse. Regards Lee Brehaut

Help required for the upcoming North Otago All British Day. Parking, Registration Tent, Afternoon Tea, Thanks. Mid Month Run. Thursday 18th January. Left our Clubrooms headed to Weston, Five Forks to Gemmells Crossing Picnic Area for afternoon tea. Thanks to John Gale for organising this event. Due to an accident at home he was unable to attend. Hope you make a full recovery and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Fairlie Run 2024 North Otago was again represented at this year’s Fairlie Parade. I took photos of these two vehicles but got so excited to see new member Richard Pollard in his Triumph Toledo come along I forgot to take a photo!! Too busy waving to him. Sorry Richard!! Hope you enjoyed your run.

MAISYG managed to keep her key intact for this parade after losing it in Oamaru, and Elf on the Shelf (Bonnet) excited children as she drove past.

The MG had three generations of family with Grandad at the wheel. There is no doubt that our older vehicles bring a lot of pleasure in many ways. Lee Brehaut

Gore VCC Festival Rally

Windsor Rally 2023 It was a good morning to start our 62nd Windsor Rally down in the Historic Precinct Area in Oamaru. At the start the field tests were held consisting of three bags of blue nails, brown nails and screws which you had to guess the number in each bag. Forty Three vehicles left for the run covering the area from the sea to the mountains. Heading towards Kakanui along Beach Road then inland to the Waiareka Valley up to Round Hill, great views were seen over the area. Then onto Enfield, Windsor, Tokarahi and to the top end of the famous Ngapara hill climb. Down the hill to Ngapara heading toward Elderslie, Weston and back to our Clubrooms for Lunch. I believe this is the first time that we have used our Clubrooms for the Windsor Rally. A shower of rain brought everyone inside. After lunch everyone had a short run covering the area, along Aln Street which gave a view towards the north end, pass the water tower, Ardgowan School and Hall, Devils Bridge Wastelands, Airedale, Weston, Deborah, Alma and slowing down for the Southanjer Rest Home to allow the residents to view the vehicles as they passed. Up to Lookout Point for a view over Oamaru and back to the clubrooms for Prize-giving and afternoon tea. A

special day for our Branch was to have South Island Club Captain Mark Wilkinson and Management Committee Rebecca George present the certificates to the winners. Thank-you to everyone who came to take part and our Members who helped in making this Windsor Rally a great event on the day. Look forward to next year's rally. Cheers Ernest. Club Captain
