$3 MILLION COMMITMENT FOR MRI AT LITHGOW HOSPITAL IS ON TRACK FOR END OF 2021 A commitment of $3 million from the NSW Government to deliver the Lithgow community a worldclass MRI service is on track with extensive planning and consultation taking place.

According to Member for Bathurst Paul Toole this has determined the new service will be delivered as a new build extension to the Lithgow Hospital. “The new service, which will be constructed on the southern end of the hospital, will provide enough space to operate the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine and ensure the service is well-located near other clinical and medical imaging services at the hospital,” Mr Toole said. “Construction will also include a staff station, patient waiting area, change rooms and bathrooms. “The construction work is scheduled to start in coming months, following a construction tender process to determine a builder. “Work is expected to be completed and the MRI operational by the end of 2021.” Mr Toole said the MRI will save locals the inconvenience

of travelling outside the region to access a diagnostic scanner. “The NSW Government is focused on ensuring local communities continue to receive high-quality health care,” he said. NBMLHD will keep the community updated on the progress of this important initiative.

MRI: Member for Bathurst Paul Toole at Lithgow Hospital with acting general manager Bronwyn Boyling: “Work is expected to be completed and the MRI operational by the end of 2021”.

LITHGOW AGED CARE UPDATE

The plight of Lithgow Aged Care has taken a new turn this week with the board’s decision to place the organisation into Voluntary Administration. Ernst & Young have been appointed as administrators, the firm having been involved on the case for over 12 months as the government appointed stewards of the funding that has been supplied to date. The role of the Administrators will be to ensure that residents receive appropriate care and assess whether the facility could be sold as a going concern. In the absence of a viable transaction, they will work with residents, the statutory authorities and alternate providers to ensure an orderly relocation of residents from the facility. EY has confirmed that arrangements are in place to ensure that staff wages and monies owed to residents in respect of Residential Accommodation Deposits and Bonds will be provided for. The administrators have also engaged specialist aged care experts to work with individual residents and their families to ensure that adequate resources are available to residents and their families during this difficult period. There is still no decision from the Aged Care Commission as to the appeal lodged by the organisation, however the move to appoint administrators should be seen as a positive step to finding a workable solution for all involved.

ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE RECOVERY INITIATIVE TO CLEAR BUSHFIREGENERATED DANGEROUS TREES Lithgow Council is working with the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Bushfire-Generated Green Waste Clean-Up and Processing Program to assess remaining green waste generated by the 2019/20 bushfires.

Impacted residents are being encouraged to register with Council for the program which aims to: • assess and document outstanding green waste generated by the 2019/20 bushfires • manage the clean-up of outstanding green waste generated by the 2019/20 bushfires • provide opportunities to beneficially reuse processed green waste products in bushfire-affected regions, and • provide regional employment opportunities in bushfire-affected communities Following the fires Lithgow City Council coordinated the removal of dangerous and hazardous trees on public and private property, with assistance from the Australian Defence Force reserves and Indonesian Army. This work was undertaken alongside the removal of destroyed Council assets and replacement toilets at the Zig Zag Railway / Newnes Junction site, stormwater clean-up of roadside drainage, removal of debris from under bridges and rectification of damaged unsealed road assets. Despite

the scale (53% of the LGA being burnt), Council successfully completed a substantial amount of registered tree issues, however some outstanding works remain. The program, managed by the EPA, provides grants to scope, assess and report on bushfire-generated green waste. Council will also use this opportunity to measure the vegetation regrowth since the fires. Property owners must contact Lithgow Council to register and discuss arrangements for the assessment process and obtain a consent form to be signed by the property owner authorising works within private property. The assessment will help Council to apply for clean-up and processing grants. It does not guarantee funding or further green waste works unless approved by the EPA. Council recognises that due to the time since the fires, waste may have already been cleaned up by insurance, contractors, and property owners. However, retrospective disposal costs are not within the scope of this program. Details on the program, how to register and frequently asked questions are available on Council’s website at: http://council.lithgow.com/bushfire-assistance/ or by contacting Lithgow Council on 6354 9999. Registrations must be received by Council by Monday, 12 April 2021. This project is funded by the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Bushfire-Generated Green Waste Clean-Up and Processing Program.

It is also a great way for parents to meet other people with similar aged children. Preschool Storytime is a free weekly program which runs for approximately 30 minutes. For more information on Storytime and other library programs head to the library website http://library.lithgow. com/ or find us on Facebook “Lithgow City Council Libraries”. QUALITY RECREATIONAL FACILITIES FOR A HEALTHY, ACTIVE COMMUNITY Council acknowledges the value of quality recreational facilities to the health and wellbeing of the community. In the first half of the 2020/21, we have continued to invest in our parks, sporting fields and open spaces.

Under the Drought Communities Program Round 2 Council has: Installed irrigation across seven of our playing fields which will reduce the cost of maintenance and upkeep whilst greatly improving the playing surfaces. Installed shade sails over playgrounds at Marrangaroo, Tweedie Street Parks and Wallerawang and Portland Skateparks. New toilet facilities will also be installed at both skateparks shortly. Council is also moving forward with the construction of the Endeavour Park Pump Track. The Design & Construct contract has been awarded and Concept Designs can be viewed on Council’s website. The Pump Track provides an opportunity to make better use of the abundant unused space in Endeavour Park and will complement the adjoining Adventure Playground in providing a youth focused facility. The project is 90% grant funded, with a $522,353 grant under the Round 3 of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund. Through the second half of 2020/21, Council is continuing to work towards completing the following projects identified in the Recreational Program of the 2020/21 Operational Plan including: Replacement of the Lake Pillans Boardwalk, which was destroyed in the 2019/20 Bushfires. Construction of new fencing around the Javelin / discus circle at the Jim Monaghan Athletics Field Repair of deteriorating sections of the jetty at Lake Lyell Upgrading the outdoor play area at Gumnut House Childcare Centre Installation of a wheelchair accessible fishing platform at Lake Wallace, which will ensure everyone can take advantage of this beautiful location.

Council has continued to extend the shared pathway, which runs along the Farmers Creek Corridor. This important environmental asset runs through the heart of Lithgow, meandering along the creekside connecting parks and playing fields between Saywell Park and the Geordie Street Crossing. In the coming months, works will commence to extend the shared pathway further and to enhance connections between Farmers Creek and places of community interest including Eskbank House, Blast Furnace Park and Lake Pillans Wetland. Alongside these new projects, Council continues to work to maintain and improve its existing recreational assets. A small team of nine dedicated staff maintain all urban roadsides, parks, gardens, playing fields and open spaces throughout Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland. “With just nine dedicated employees responsible for this work, it is phenomenal the volume of work they are able to produce,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Ray Thompson. “This is another story of locals helping locals, with our employees taking great pride in presenting Lithgow’s green areas in the best possible light. While resources are limited, they do a fantastic job and on behalf of our community, I thank them for their very hard work.” For more information on progress with the projects and programs being undertaken by Council, a copy of the 2020/21 Six Monthly Progress Report for the July – December 2020 period can be downloaded from Council’s website https://council.lithgow.com/ council/ipr/ - click on Progress Reports in the page menu.

He’s a proud Aboriginal Australian and he’s someone who’s experienced depression firsthand,” said Greg. “We thank Preston for sharing his raw and honest account with us and for discussing the support EnergyAustralia provides anyone who may find themselves in the same position.”

Preston explained that he was given support through his club, similar to the EnergyAustralia wellbeing program, Spark, and the confidential service available to all employees and their families. FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CALARE

LITHGOW AGED CARE UPDATE The situation at Lithgow Aged Care (LAC) is distressing and complex. We all know that a closure of LAC would be devestating for residents, families and staff. I am continuing to work with the Department of Health and the Minister for Aged Care to try to find a way forward. I was in Lithgow again on Wednesday and below is the latest information that I have (current as at 12pm Thursday, 4 March).

1. Where is the review up to?

5. What’s the latest on available places?

LAC has lodged it’s application for a review of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission’s decision and the review is underway. I do not have any insight as to when the Commission will hand down it’s review decision, but I am told that the Commission is expediting their response and it should be received soon. I know many people have made their own submission to the Aged Care Commission as part of the appeal process. I have also made a submission to the Commission.

In case of a closure, the Department is directly contacting again all approved providers within a 60km radius of LAC to confirm availability of places.

2. Has the Federal Government ceased funding LAC? Not yet. The Federal Government continues to provide emergency funding to LAC on top of the standard Federal Government funding for accredited aged care facilities. In the event that LAC’s appeal to the Commission is successful and their accreditation is reinstated, then the standard funding from the Federal Government will continue. In relation to the emergency funding, the Minister for Aged Care has advised me that he has not yet made a decision as to whether the Federal Government will continue to provide this. The continuation of the emergency funding is a separate issue to the accreditation and will depend on LAC’s viability and financial plan.

3. Is LAC for sale? LAC is looking to sell the facility. It will need to ensure that any sale occurs with an approved provider who can takeover the operations of LAC and who is supported by the Department of Health. The Department is actively working with LAC on this.

4. If LAC closes and is sold, who benefits? This has been raised with me by the community. LAC is an unlisted public not-for profit company limited by guarantee. It has charitable status. There are currently six corporate directors. Full details are available on an ASIC company search. If LAC was sold its directors and members would not be able to share in the proceeds.

They are bringing this information together with the intention of providing these contacts directly to all LAC residents/families/ representatives. I am told that a detailed information sheet will be provided to residents and families this Thursday, 4 March 2021.

6. If LAC closes will there be support available? In the event of closure, the Department of Health will work with families and residents to find appropriate accommodation for residents. The Department is planning to engage an independent facilitator to assist and support residents and families on the ground at Lithgow.

7. What happens with the RADs? A number of people have raised concerns about the Refundable Accommodation Deposits (RADs). I am told that in the event of a closure, the Department of Health, or their representative, would negotiate with new providers on behalf of families. If the RAD at a new facility is significantly higher than what was originally paid for LAC, I have asked the Department to look into whether there is any other assistance, including financial assistance, that can be provided to families. The Department has undertaken to get back to me on this.

8. What should staff do? Staff need our full support. There are many extremely caring and compassionate staff at LAC who are very concerned about the future of the facility, including it’s residents. I understand that staff had a meeting with LAC, the Department of Health, and representatives from the Commission on Wednesday. I would encourage staff to keep talking to the board and management at LAC. Staff are also welcome to contact my office on 6361 7138 or send me an email at andrew.gee.mp@aph.gov.au.

PALMERS OAKY RFS ACKNOWLEDGED IN PARLIAMENT I recently spoke in Parliament to pay tribute to each and every member of the Palmers Oaky Rural Fire Service brigade that faced the catastrophic bushfire season of 2019-20. Here’s an extract of my speech: On 4 December 2019 the Palmers Oaky Upper Turon Road fire broke out in the central west and went on to burn more than 17,400 hectares of private property, state forest and national park. By midday that day, members of the Palmers Oaky brigade answered the call and had well and truly swung into action. Over the next 20 days the brigade, both on the front line and back at the fire shed, worked day and night fighting the fires in and around Palmers Oaky. Much of the dangerous work undertaken by the brigade was in hilly and mountainous terrain.

Brigade captain Nino Di Falco has said that the brigade’s firefighting response was a massive group effort which included essential behindthe-scenes work which stood them in good stead in the face of these Black Summer infernos. Nino makes special mention of Chris Schofield and Duncan Ferguson, who worked their bulldozers day and night at their own expense, constructing fire control lines before the official RFS equipment was on site. The hardworking, dedicated crews were able to gain control in early January and finally declared the fire out in February 2020. We are very grateful for your commitment and your sacrifice in keeping our community safe, and this parliament recognises you and thanks you for this extraordinary service today.

equipment they need to ensure they are living to their full potential and getting the supplies they need. “We’re so grateful for our longstanding partnership with Woolworths and the support their shoppers continue to show Variety. Together, we can support more kids in need this Easter.” Woolworths customers have helped raise $11 million to date for Variety through ongoing appeals.

Customers at Woolworths Lithgow and across NSW can support the Easter Fundraising Appeal by simply adding a $2 Easter egg shaped token to their shop or rounding up their purchase to the nearest dollar when they spend over $30 at the self service check-out. The appeal is running in stores and online from March 17 to April 6, 2021. Woolworths Store Manager Brendan Edwards said: “We’re proud of our long term support for Variety and are always amazed by how Lithgow customers continue to give generously with each appeal. “Many families across NSW have had a tough twelve months, but what we continue to see is that Australians band together to support one another in times of need. “The Easter Fundraising Appeal is a great example of how a little bit of good can go a long way for children and families across NSW and ACT, helping them get the vital equipment and support they need.” One hundred percent of funds raised will help Variety to support children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. Acting General Manager David Small said: “With the help of Woolworths and the kindness of their shoppers, Variety is working to ensure all children across NSW and the ACT have access to the crucial mobility and medical

The state’s peak business organisation, Business NSW, congratulates the NSW Government on the creation Careers NSW.

“For far too long, careers advice has been neglected by successive governments,” said Business NSW, Regional Manager – Western NSW, Vicki Seccombe. “The importance of good careers advice has been a flagship issue for Business NSW and was one of our key recommendations to the recent review of the NSW vocational education and training sector by Professor Shergold and Mr Gonski,” Ms Seccombe said. “Careers advice is consistently identified in the many surveys we conduct through our youth platform, Skillsroad, and with businesses, as a weak link in ensuring people understand where the jobs are and are able to plan accordingly. “Our research has previously shown that high quality careers advice and guidance is vital in supporting young people to make the best decisions about education and employment. “This is especially the case for young people at risk of becoming disengaged from work or training – and will be even more critical during this period of uncertainty when the jobs market is changing so quickly. “It’s not just young people who will benefit from the introduction of Careers NSW. The pandemic has disproportionately affected the over 50s, and this will be a vital support mechanism to help mature-aged people back into work. “Introducing a careers advice service, in collaboration with industry, will help ensure people have the right information about the jobs and skills required. “We commend the NSW Government for finally

FREE BULLYING IS NEVER OK National Day of Action Against PERMACULTURE This Bullying and Violence, headspace Lithgow is promoting ways young COURSE people and parents/carers can Only a few weeks ago Costa Giorgiadis, from Gardening Australia, travelled to the Blue Mountains to inspire young people doing a Permaculture Design Course at Headspace in Katoomba.

The once neglected Headspace yard has now been transformed into a thriving permaculture garden with pond, fire pit, herb and veggie garden and a mini native forest in the heart of the CBD. Local bands helped attract even more young people to enjoy the space at the recent official launch. Now, the Blue Mountains Pluriversity and its Permaculture Institute (projects of the Blackheath-based charity, The Big Fix Ltd) are offering free permaculture classes for young people (aged 16-24) in Lithgow. According to the founder of The Big Fix, Lis Bastian, “we’re thrilled that the stars are aligning at last after the COVID disruption! Our permaculture courses will be some of the first exciting learning opportunities for young people to be held in the new Lithgow Just Transitions Hub on the old Western Sydney University campus. They’re part of a project called The Lithgow Sprint, in honour of runner Marjorie Jackson, because we’re hoping to be as fast as Marjorie in improving life for young people in Lithgow!” A free Introduction to Permaculture for young people aged 16-24 will be held during the school holidays on Wednesday 7 April and then, a week later, a free, internationally recognised Permaculture Design Course (72hrs) will offer young people the opportunity to gain experience in designing better systems for the future with inspiring mentors like Costa. According to Lis, “these courses will provide a way for participants to connect with other young people so that they can work together to build community, a regenerative micro-farm at the PCYC, and new social enterprises to create jobs in Lithgow”. This design course will be held three days a week from 14 April to 7 May. Any young people interested in learning about media and storytelling are also invited to contact Lis. The Lithgow Sprint has been made possible because of funding received from Wentworth Healthcare, provider of the Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network, as part of the Australian Government’s Empowering our Communities initiative. Bookings are essential for both courses because numbers are strictly limited. Make sure to secure a place by contacting Lis on 0407 437 553 or emailing lis@thebigfix.org

minimise potential damage caused by bullying.

Bonnie Bassett, headspace Lithgow Clinical Manager, said being bullied whether verbally, physically, socially or online, is an issue that can have long-term mental health consequences and impact future relationships. “Bullying can increase the risk of developing mental health problems for everyone involved but particularly those on the receiving end. Bullying isn’t something we should accept as a ‘normal part of growing up’. We encourage young people experiencing bullying to tell someone trusted as quickly as possible so it can be dealt with,” Ms Bassett said. Parents, carers and teachers can play a large part in supporting young people who experience bullying by encouraging open and honest communication. “If a young person reports bullying to you, listen to their story and ask for information about who, when, where and how. Be reassuring, ask what they want you to do about it and make sure they understand it isn’t their fault,” Ms Bassett said. Research shows everyone has a role to play in preventing bullying – whether it be at home, in schools or in the workplace. Support for young people is available through headspace Lithgow or by talking to a counsellor online at eheadspace.org.au. Ways you can support a friend who is being bullied • Ask them about the situation – be respectful and understanding, remember they may not feel like

answering and that is ok. • Let them know they aren’t alone. • Provide reassurance – emphasis that bullying is not their fault. • Make sure they are safe – sometimes this may require you to take speak up, even if they do want you to, but make sure you talk with them before you do so. • Be prepared to seek help – help them decide how approach the situation. Discuss who they could talk to about the situation. • Look out for mental health – bullying can have a serious effect on someone’s mental and physical health. If you feel like your friend is struggling because of bullying, they may need professional support. Their local GP or headspace centre is a good place to start. MEMORIES OF PORTLAND’S ANNEXE As renovation works near completion on the old Annexe building in Portland, The Foundations are calling out for anyone who has old photos or a story to tell about the Annexe in its past lives.

“We would love to hear from people that have memories of the Annexe throughout it’s history, no doubt there are some stories to tell that mean more to the community than the catalogued history of the building,” said Reactivation Manager, Rich Evans. Over the last 12 months the building has been transformed from its time-worn state to be a shining example of how heritage buildings can be restored and respected. The renovated building will be open to the public on the Big Easter weekend being held by The Foundations, and will house the beginnings of the Museum of Comparative Zoology Collection that will make its permanent home there once all final building renovations are complete. The Foundations are hoping to find these stories and video them in the coming weeks to form part of a display in the new foyer area of the building over the Big Easter Weekend. The renovation has included a completely replaced roof, full interior and exterior paint, new services throughout and repairs of a number of structural and ageing issues

to ensure the building stays part of the streetscape in the picturesque town for years to come.

BUICKS ROLL INTO THE REGION The NSW chapter of the Buick Car Club of Australia visited the region last weekend, with over 20 vehicles from as far back as the 190s making the trip. The club stayed at Black Gold in Wallerawang and visited a number of iconic tourism destinations in the region. On their visit to The Foundations in POrtland, the club were welcomed by members of Portlands own historic Car Club, and given a tour of the former cement works by car club member and ex-cement works worker, Herb Coleman. “The cars on the rally ranged from 1920s to the 1980s and all performed exceptionally well without any reports of breakdowns or trouble with the steep inclines in the area,” said a club representative.

TIME SEASON FINISHED FOR WILDFIRES CRICKET Photo and Story supplied

The over 60s Western Wildfires cricketers finished their season by coming second in Division 2 at the recent State Carnival in Orange.

The 3 day carnival saw the wildfires win their first 2 games but unfortunately lose their final game. The wins were however their first for more than a year. The first match was against the strong New England team who made 8/196 on the very impressive Wade Park. The best of the bowlers easily was Steve Walsh with 4-21. Nev Castle and Glen Campbell being the other wicket takers. In reply, a solid opening stand between Barry Fitzgerald and Michael Byrne set the foundation for the run chase. Most of the early batsmen contributed, with the team making 6/198 with 2 overs remaining. Campbell retired with 40, Byrne 26, Walsh 29 and Castle 35no. This was the Wildfires highest successful run chase and it put the team in good spirits for the next day.

Monday saw the team playing Port Jackson who made 8/126 on a difficult pitch. All bowlers performed well with 6 different bowlers claiming wickets. The best figures were by Dave Hartley with 2/15 followed by Campbell 1/13 and Hicks 1/13. In a good team effort, the Wildfires chased down the total to finish with 6/129 with 3 overs left. Castle made 27, Campbell 23, new comer Brett Johnson 18no and Byrne 17. This then led to the final where the Wildfires were up against the very strong Hunter Taverners who had easily won their two games. The Hunter team batted first and made a very sound 7/192. Best bowling was by Byrne with 2/12 with the other wicket takers being Walsh and Campbell and a couple of handy run-outs. Sadly, the Wildfires lost wickets far too often to be all out for 115. However, in that score Brett Johnson made an amazing 62 to be last man out and showed what could have been. Although the season is over for our team, Campbell, Castle, Johnson, Northey and Walsh will be representing NSW (in various teams) against Queensland in Tamworth at the end of the month. We wish them well.

THE VALUE OF GOOD ADVICE A research report from CPA Australia, CoreData and the University of NSW has put a value on the benefits of financial advice to Australian society.

and they’re less likely to suffer from financial stress. When an adviser reduces a client’s financial stress, they may also lessen the client’s tendency to turn to alcohol or drugs, help them sleep better, and improve the quality of their family relationships.

The comprehensive study found that the value of advice is $24,716 per person per year. Only about two in five Australian adults use the services of financial advisers, accountants or mortgage brokers. If we could increase that to everyone it would mean a $630 billion boost to the Australian economy each year. That’s probably not reasonable. But if we could increase the number of people receiving advice to one in two, it would mean $113 billion of stimulus to the economy each year.

But the emotional benefits of advice are just the start. People with an active relationship with an adviser make better financial decisions. They are more efficient with their investments, make more of their opportunities and avoid more financial mistakes than unadvised people. They feel more financially resilient, so they have more confidence to spend. Even though they spend more and do more in their lives, they are still wealthier and take fewer financial risks than the unadvised.

But it’s not just about the money

Access to quality advice in the Central West

According to the Australian Psychology Society, financial issues are the leading cause of stress amongst Australians; even higher than worries about health. Financial stress is bad for our families and it’s bad for our communities. Those who feel financially stressed drink more, sleep less, have worse mental and physical health, and have more conflict in their personal relationships.

Advice reduces financial stress

The good news is that Australians who have an active relationship with a financial adviser feel more organised, are more confident when making financial decisions

DON’T MISS OUT ON LIFESAVING GRANT Time is running out for sports clubs and councils to apply for a grant for potentially life-saving equipment in the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program. With up to $1 million available in the final round of the program, sporting clubs and councils are encouraged to apply for grants of up to $1,900 to purchase and maintain Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). I would urge local sports clubs and councils to take advantage of this opportunity before the program closes on 12 April 2021. People of all ages and abilities participate in sport and recreation across the electorate and it’s vital that facilities are equipped to respond to life-threatening situations. Early access to a defibrillator can mean the difference between life and death in the event of a cardiac arrest. That’s why it’s crucial our clubs and councils are equipped to respond to these emergencies. This is the final year of the program which had seen more than 2,000 grants awarded for the purchase of defibrillators at sport and recreation facilities. In NSW, up to 7,000 people experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year and medical expert say the first eight minutes following a cardiac arrest are critical and that early access to CPR and a defibrillator is essential to increasing a patient’s likelihood of survival. For further information on the Local Sport Defibrillator Program, visit www.sport.nsw.gov.au/clubs/grants/ defibrillator.

FUNDING SUPPORT FOR LITHGOW DISTRICT CAR CLUB GROUP The Lithgow District Car Club’s Yvonne Martyn Memorial Motorsport Park has seen a transformation of late and thanks to support from the NSW Government is ready for this Sunday’s grand opening.

A grant of $50,000 from the government has been critical in having a brand new access road completed while another $9900 in funding meant a new remote timing control system could be purchased. And now all is ready for this weekend‘s Liz Roberts Memorial Motorkhana which also marks the grand opening of the complex in what is the first event in 21 years to be hosted by the club. Member for Bathurst Paul Toole MP paid club President Les Taylor a visit to see the new equipment and improvements to the precinct. "The Park is a unique motorsport/driver training

complex in the community, providing driver training for children aged 12 years upwards, with the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) Ignition Program," Mr Toole said. “The precinct also provides a venue for hill climbing, motorkhana, rallysprint and khanacross events which draws competitors from all over NSW, so it’s important to maintain the infrastructure and modern equipment for visiting competitors. “I congratulate the members of the Club on their successful grant applications and commend them on their ongoing development and improvements to the facility.” Lithgow District Car Club President, Les Taylor, said the funding brings the park up to standard when it comes to competitions and events. “Thanks to Paul we’re now able to upgrade our whole timing system, something that that really brings us up to modern standard,” he said. “We appreciate the government’s support as it really helps us continue to serve our members and the broader community in the best way we can.”

“RICE OF THE WORLD” HARMONY WEEK EVENT POSTPONED Lithgow City Council today announced that the planned “Rice of the World” event to be held on March 21 will be postponed due to forecast heavy rain.

This decision to postpone was made to protect the health of our community, to whom we would like to express gratitude for their understanding, patience, and continued support. The date of the new event is yet to be confirmed. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
