The Program


Brown Bag TV overview • An experience-based training course for diverse, underserved students. • Guided by a primary mentors (with participation of guest mentors). • In which the students produce a monthly streaming show & digital elements. • And gain experience, skills, portfolio and contacts / opportunities to enter digital/media industries workforce. • Supported by partners with an interest in community service, education opportunities, media and digital training, career support, workforce preparation. • Partners receive desired outputs valuable to their needs.


detail Brown Bag TV – Detail • Targeted Students: 18 – 35; underserved, diverse, non-radio listeners, social networks mavens. • Experience-based learning • 15 week-program, Fall Semester 2021 –Creating a weekly streaming magazine and associated digital elements • Students take on all roles: writers, producers, director, camera, editing, web design and development, interviewing each potential MC sponsor to provide a brief extract of what they would like to provide in short-to-long form presentations. • Students will ultimately select course topics: digital distribution, careers in media • Guided by dedicated mentors, informed by guest mentors • Resulting in workforce preparedness: experience, portfolio, skills certification, and networked employment opportunities

The TheShow show • Weekly streaming magazine format (audio and/or video). • Complementary digital elements: website, apps, social media. • Topics focus on tech & media and career: events, people, courses, skills, opportunities. • Flexible format accommodates many types of material, stories. • Stories' sources include partner input opportunities, e.g. interviews with innovators, explorations of labs and innovative products, media and career skills • Audiences – enabled by selected partners, e.g. student bodies, customer bases, outreach constituents.

Partners Partners • Funders – grant holders supporting education opportunities: training, media, tech, career • Messagers – funding/support in exchange for reaching shows’ audiences with their messaging • Media-buys: placement before/during show • In-show – student-produced stories that address partner’s desired communications

• Supporters – provide critical elements in return for defined value: • Equipment, infrastructure • Guest mentors to enhance learning curriculum • Events, people, locations for show story topics • Post-course networking, placement


The Pilot


The ThePilot: Pilot • To establish a foundation from which to build a full-scale, ongoing version of BBTV. • 15-week session focused on developing & deploying a single show: • 30 LACCD + CSUEA participating students • Mentored and working together virtually • To be streamed to full LACCD + CSUEA student population via media hub, apps, social

• Engaging partners via opportunity to reach the audience, in exchange for support: sponsorship, content about partner and/or focused on partners’ preferred topics.

Roots The DAKAR Foundation for the Performing Arts is a digitally-oriented arts and media community offering programs in digital media production and graphic design. Dakar is committed to re-engaging atrisk youth in danger of dropping, to give them a renewed passion for academic and vocational studies through new media skills and experience to help them qualify for entry-level entertainment and digital industry jobs. Dakar champions the performing arts, diversity marketing and interactive programs, with efforts that span the public and private sectors, combining efforts in urban marketing, advertising, event planning, content development & delivery, and business development.
