Press>Play at the Fringe

Press>Play features four short, site-specific audio plays by Victoria playwrights, designed to guide the listener through Victoria’s historic streets, alleys, parks and buildings. It’s free, and you decide when to begin. Pick one play, or experience all four as a two-hour walk, from Beacon Hill Park to Chinatown. Headphones are recommended.

The Meeting Place

by Launch Pad Productions • 15 minutes • Beacon Hill Park • male and female listener versions available An adventure where you are the main character, from the creators of Tara Firm & the Lunar War Chronicles. The place: Beacon Hill Park. Your assignment: retrieve a stolen package, code named Chang-O.

Sounds and Visions

by Jackie Cade • 15 minutes • Pioneer Square Park (requires access to a public building, Tues–Sat, 8:30–5:30) A young man begins to hear voices in Pioneer Square Park, which lead him on a journey filled with darkness and light.

by Karen Lee Pickett • 25 minutes • Broughton at Broad (daylight hours recommended) An endless river of time eddies over a woman who waits for her beloved to join her in the heart of Victoria, while the city grows and changes around her.

Blink and You’ll Miss It

by Theatre SKAM • 20 minutes • Pandora at Store St (daylight hours recommended) A visitor seeks the home of his sister in the streets and alleys of Chinatown, and among the visible and invisible landmarks, sounds, and throngs of tourists, finds his way to a place of benevolence.
