WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON Welcome to our 2017 Spring season. This season we welcome yet another Bill Kenwright show in the form of Ruth Rendell’s A Judgement in Stone, a heavyweight cast line up will ensure a spectacular production. As we recover from the festive period January welcomes an array of shows for everyone. Psychic Sally returns as does the UK’s leading Motown show “How Sweet It Is” – a night of fantastic entertainment and a chance to get up on your dancing feet. Highly recommended by all the team here at The Playhouse. As we continue through the season there’s no shortage of music offerings with Barbara Dickson, Gerry Cross The Mersey, G4, The Three Degrees, Elkie Brooks and the Solid Silver 60’s Show. Just a few of the fantastic shows available to the music fans! For those of us looking for a winter smile or two we have a fantastic comedy line up in Jon Richardson, Rob Brydon, Jasper Carrott and Henning Wehn. Looking to the future we also have Count Arthur Strong, Jimmy Carr, Reginald D Hunter and Milton Jones all on sale and available to purchase now. Act quickly to avoid disappointment.

The little ones wont be disappointed as Horrible Histories arrives for the first time with their Barmy Britain show. In addition, there’s So You Think You Know About Dinosaurs, We’re Going On A Bear Hunt and The Tiger Who Came To Tea to keep all ages entertained! Looking to the future we announce Milkshake Live, coming this summer, which with limited performances will undoubtedly sell out very quickly due to it’s very impressive line up of kids’ favourites! We welcome back Playhouse favourite Maureen Nolan in Menopause the Musical this Feb with a stellar line up of other headlining cast members. A sure fire fun girls night out hit! Balancing things out, for all the gentlemen we welcome A Question of Golf with Peter Alliss. Lastly, we announce the big summer professional musical The Olivier AwardWinning Madness musical “Our House” direct from West End Producers Immersion Theatre. Now the phenomenal new tribute show ‘Waterloo’ looks back at the sensational rise to stardom of Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid and gives fans the opportunity to experience the thrill of a live Abba show! The unique Abba sound is replicated with an incredible attention to detail by a full live cast and band - with stunning costumes and breathtaking choreography. WINTER WARMER TOUR

The original Buoy Band, the Fisherman’s Friends are back with a vengeance, getting ready to hit the road with UK tour dates in January and February with a full catch of new material and some old favourites as well. Fisherman’s Friends said “We are really looking forward to getting into the fish van again and playing for old friends and making some new ones around the country. We are not very rock ’n’ roll, more born to be mild than wild, but we love performing anywhere we can and carrying a little bit of Cornwall with us”.

Did dinosaurs eat their own families? Was every Tyrannosaurus Rex a fearsome carnivore? Why did Allosaurus headbutt its prey to death? Come and test your knowledge against Dr Ben Garrod (the TV scientist in ‘Attenborough’s Giant Dinosaur’). With the help of TV film footage and photos of his own paleontological dinosaur digs, he will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about dinosaurs - and more. This is an interactive show where children will be given the chance to ask questions and show off their dinosaur knowledge to the audience.

BRISTOL RUSSIAN BALLET SCHOOL: SLEEPING BEAUTY Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty tells Perrault’s fairy tale of the enchantment of a princess which is broken by a prince’s kiss. Students and guest principal dancers bring this story to life through the choreography and costumes on a stage filled with forest creatures and the Lilac Fairy and her attendants. THE THREE DEGREES IN CONCERT The Three Degrees are an American female vocal group, formed in 1963 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The group has remained a trio with 2 original members since Sheila Ferguson left many moons ago. A firm favourite with Prince Charles they sang at his 30th Birthday party and were guests at his wedding to Princess Diana. The Three Degrees are well known for their soulful voices, beautiful gowns and fabulous stage shows. They are known all around the world for songs like ‘When Will I See You Again’, ‘Dirty Ol’ Man’ and ‘Take Good Care of Yourself’. They have been continuously touring for more than 40 years and still touring to this day. VIP tickets include a meet and greet after the show and a seat in the first two rows.

Friend� o� the Playhouse

We are a voluntary organisation established to promote and support the theatre. The Friends have contributed towards many key features of the theatre such as the stage curtains, grand piano and stair lift. The Friends have also played a vital part in modernising the theatre; funding the cost of a new PA system and installation of LED lighting throughout front of house and the bar.

The Friends also provide volunteer staff to take tickets, sell programmes and welcome patrons upon visiting the theatre. Additionally they assist with marketing and promotions, organise social events throughout the year and host Saturday coffee mornings. Members are entitled to a 15% discount off the top ticket price (excluding booking fee) for shows stating Friends of the Playhouse discount - one discount per member. Application forms are available in the foyer.

These include car parks at Grove Park, The Melrose on Knightstone Road and in Carlton Street.
