E leven months after his ordination to the diaconate, C. Gregory Jones, C.S.V. was ordained a priest in St. Viator Church, Chicago, on Saturday, April 13th, 1996. Surrounded and assisted by family, fellow Viatorians, and members of the parish community, Fr. F ather John Cusack, C.S.V. our Mission Procurator has retired. As Procurator, Father Cusack had many responsibilities. First and foremost was establishing and maintaining our mission in Bogota, Colombia. This work began in 1961 with just four Viatorians and no school buildings nor residence. Today, Colegio San Viator has a flourishing high school, primary school and recently completed classrooms for the kindergarten. Moreover, since its humble beginnings 35 years ago, there are now nine Colombian Viatorians: three priests and six brothers. We are blessed indeed by Continued on page 4

From The Provincial's Perspective Dear Partners in Faith,

Viator

With this edition of the Viator newsletter we welcome the new readers from our Mission House faithful. Many of you have been loyal boosters and supporters of Viatorian Ministry for many years, and I am happy to have you included in the readership of our newsletter.

Reverend Robert M. Egan, C.S.V. Provincial

Publisher Philip J. Skeris Director of Development

Managing Editor VIATOR is published quarterly by the Clerics of St. Viator, the Viatorians, for friends, families, parishioners and alumni of Viatorian apostolates . The Clerics of St. Viator are religious priests and brothers sent by the Catholic Church to teach the Faith and proclaim Jesus Christ as Gospel. In parishes, schools, and a variety of other ministries Viatorians work with Christian communities to live, deepen and celebrate their faith .

As Lent came to a close the Province celebrated Easter and the ordination of Brother Greg Jones to the priesthood. This winter, one of our priests, Father John Cusack, retired . You will read more about these two Teachers of Faith in this edition. Much of my time this winter has been spent visiting the men in the province and working on new assignments. We have also been planning our August Assembly with a theme of collaboration, which will include lay leaders from our ministry sites. You will be hearing more about this annual Assembly in the Fall issue of Viator. I hop e and pray that the Lenten and Easter seasons have been times of grace for you and your families. As always we welcome your comments and qu estions. You are all included in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Robert M. Egan, C.S.V. Provincial

Our legal title is: Clerics of St. Viator.

"Let the little Children come to me, and do not hinder them , for of such is the Kingdom of God ." (Mark 10, 14) Several of our readers have inquired about the Latin phrase within our logo. It is translated above, and reflects our Community Founder's concern for education.

Ordination to Priesthood (continued)

A moment of prayer for Fr. Greg's family

Ceremonies. Many other members of the Viatorian Community were also present. Fr. Jones' immediate

family participated as well. His step-mother, Sharon Jones, and his brothers Michael and Dan presented the gifts

at the offertory, and Barbara Michney, his cousin, served as a lector. Longtime friend and seminarian, Jerry Ness, vested Greg in the chasuble and stole. Many of Greg's former colleagues and students from the St. Viator High School family served as Eucharistic Ministers. The St. Viator Parish Youth Group and Altar Servers provided the acolytes. Following the ordination the St. Viator Parish Community hosted a luncheon, coordinated by Jim Chaney. In his Thanksgiving, Fr.

Jones reflected "God has blessed me with a life rich in friends and with many families--the traditional one, as well as some unusual ones. To my families I am grateful, .... thank you for being with me today." Greg's first mass was celebrated the next day at St. Viator Parish and concluded a grace-filled weekend with family and friends from Ohio, Florida, California, Massachusetts and Illinois. Fr. Greg Jones will continue to serve at St. Viator Parish in Chicago, now as Associate Pastor. •
