Led by the eminent Daniel P . Ward, '40, Manager of the Bergin Debating Society, the College Chaper of Cisca inaugurated a very nt eresting and fruitf u l discussion r.. of the Papp.J zncyclicals. Displaying a very profound ltnowledge · of the onditlon s that brought a bou t the writing of "Rerum Novarum"' the great classic on the social order, Dan told of the Industrial Revolulion , the aggrandizement of wealth n the hands of a few , and similar a buses in the social order. His definition of a living wage, taken fro m th e encyclical of Pope Leo XIII, brought on a very live ly dis ,. . . . . ._ cu ssion. H owever, with nis wealth of knowldege of the Problems of Labor and t h e shrewdn~ss and dialectical acumen that is the result of his years of experie nce on the pubic platfa rm, Dan was able to anwer all objections very r eadily and o the complete satisfaction of all. umnus rit es Book on "Spain' ~
Edward Knoblaugh, former honor student her e, announces the publication of a book on conditions in war-torn Spain . Written with the obj ectively of a journalis t whose code was to r e port wh a t h e saw, the book r epr esents in a very graphic and vivid manner th e true stat e of affa irs in Spain. In fac t , his avcount is so hones t and to the point that h e came into disfavor w ith the Loyalist r egime, and was forced to leave the country on a friendly warship. Jus t a few year s ngo, Mr. Knob~ laugh left these sacr ed a nd s ac rosanc t h a lls of learning to follow the call of Journa lism. His experien ce on th e staff of the VIA TORIAN st~od him in good stead, and h e was soon promoted to the position of "Associated Press Co rrespondent in Madrid a nd Valencia". His book comes to us with the credentials of four year s of service in the bloody fields of Spain, so he evidently "knows whereof he sp eaks."
